Chapter 1610 — The Price of Curiosity
The Herdsman of the Wasteland Page 2 of 2
It was as though the mirrors held things of incomparable beauty, seizing their attention. Just then the mirrors blazed with light, and strange rays shot forth, striking into the eyes of those tiny Shen Mus.
The Empress and Lady Yuanmu watched without blinking, and saw the very bodies of the tiny Shen Mus begin to change: though originally male, they gradually grew fair of skin, their chests swelled, their Adam's apples receded, their waists grew slender and soft! In but a short while, these tiny Shen Mus had become women! Not only so, their features changed as well, becoming identical to the Second Young Master of Miluo Palace beneath the Chaos Sea!
The Empress and Yuanmu shuddered with cold.
Those women seemed to sense that something was amiss, and at once tried to flee Shen Mu's dream; just then, the remaining tiny Shen Mus who cultivated the dao of reincarnation burst forth with reincarnation divine arts one after another, locking those women fast. The women suddenly turned their heads as one and looked at the sleeping Shen Mu, saying in unison, "Old Seven, you are good in every way — only a little too curious!
" In the blink of an eye, these women were struck back one by one to the state before they had looked into the mirrors, and not one could escape Shen Mu's dream!
Dream after dream shattered, all the tiny Shen Mus vanished, and Shen Mu woke from the dream. Lady Yuanmu shrieked, and the Empress said coldly, "Stop screaming. You are not dead yet!
" "If we cultivate the Mirror of Guixu, then we are dead! " Lady Yuanmu still could not steady her spirit.
"And besides, that woman is right down there in the Chaos Sea; to go down is also certain death!
More to the point, when she fought the dao chains, she plucked this twin lotus right off to use as a weapon!
We are doomed!
" The Empress was vexed and flustered, and now had no plan either.
She murmured, "Curiosity kills the silly roe deer. Heavenly Venerable Mu, you are too curious. .
. " Below, in the Chaos Sea, angry waves rolled and monstrous billows surged; the twin lotus trembled violently — plainly the woman was stirring up wind and waves, battering the seal of the dao chains!
The twin lotus was seized by an immense force — plainly the woman was trying to tear the twin lotus free and drag them back into the Chaos Sea! Shen Mu suddenly cried aloud, "Keep climbing!
" The Empress and Yuanmu at once joined forces and climbed swiftly upward, but the woman's powers reached the heavens, stronger by far than the two of them combined; even as they climbed with all their strength, the twin lotus still carried them closer and closer to the sea's surface. Shen Mu had exposed her true aim, and it had roused her true wrath; she no longer troubled to dissemble with them, but simply struck to kill!
The Empress and Yuanmu could not hold back — they leaped up and away from the twin lotus, and Shen Mu, gritting his teeth, leaped after them; the three hurled themselves upward against the immense gravity of Guixu.
But the gravity of Guixu grew stronger and stronger, locking the three of them fast and making every step difficult. And beneath them, streaks of white light danced — it was the white hair of the Second Young Master, drawing ever nearer! Shen Mu let out a shout, roused all his cultivation, and invoked the dao chains left by the Master of Miluo Palace.
The dao chains blazed with power and locked the Second Young Master fast. Chi— A streak of white light flashed, pierced Shen Mu's chest, and ran him through.
Shen Mu spat blood; the Empress and Yuanmu rushed over, driving their divine arts to strike that strand of white hair head-on, severed it, and saved Shen Mu. Blood seeped from the corner of Shen Mu's mouth.
He forced down his injuries, marshaled his cultivation to invoke other dao chains, and fought the woman to the death.
Yet the woman's strength was truly formidable; even though he could rouse a fraction of the dao chains' power, he could not wholly suppress her, and more white hair came surging in.
The Empress and Yuanmu knew that if Shen Mu fell, they would surely die, and so struck with all their might against that white hair. Below, the woman dragged the twin lotus back and brandished it against the suppression of the dao chains, shrieking without cease; the shrieks left the three of them dizzy and muddled, blood flowing unceasingly from eyes, ears, mouth, and nose.
"This time I fear there is no escape.
. .
" Shen Mu thought dimly in his muddled mind.
Suddenly the Guixu tide erupted, lifting their bodies and rushing them up toward the sky above Guixu! The three were startled and overjoyed; that the Guixu tide erupted at this moment could be said to have saved their lives.
Their bodies moved faster and faster in the tide, and soon they left the woman's white hair behind!
"Hahaha, Heaven protects the good! " Lady Yuanmu laughed excitedly.
No sooner had she spoken than the six hundred million years of this universe swiftly drained away in the Guixu tide.
They looked up and saw the great destruction of the Sixteenth Universe, as boundless and terrifying energy gathered and poured toward the great abyss of Guixu!
In a single instant they felt the supreme power of the great kalpa of destruction, and their own great daos began to crumble at speed!
The three were so terrified that every hair on their bodies stood on end.
Shen Mu reached out and seized a dao chain; then with a mighty swing and fling, the dao chain coiled around the Empress's body.
The tide howled; the dao chain was stretched taut, throttling the Empress half to death.
