The Herdsman of the Wasteland Page 2 of 2
When I return, it will be at the moment of waking, when the dream shatters—and the Chaotic Space there will bloom like fireworks. " He turned and walked into the Hall of Chaos. Whoosh— The first River of Chaos raised a wave and swallowed his figure.
As that great wave surged, the whole Hall of Chaos was struck and fell into the long river.
In the end, the wave vanished, and all sixteen Rivers of Chaos vanished as well, leaving no trace.
Long Qilin raised his head, and many others raised their heads to look at the sky. Xing An sneered, "What are you all looking at? He has returned to the depths of time and space—he has not flown up into the sky!
What is there in the sky? Nothing!
Which is why not one of you is a match for me! " Long Qilin lowered his head. "I was only pretending he flew up there. " Xing An sneered on and on.
"Enough!
" The Woodcutter Sage drew his woodcutting axe and said in a deep voice, "The boy Shen has left, but the war goes on.
The Heavenly Court is not yet destroyed, Emperor Hao Tian still lives.
My friends, follow me and fight on! Han Tang! Han Tang! You lead the left division; Qing Huang leads the right. Let us slaughter them till heaven and earth are overturned. .
. Where is Han Tang? Surely he has not gone fishing again. .
.
" The Black Tiger God hurried to soothe him, whispering to the crowd, "The master has been lonely too long these years, and always imagines those old friends are still alive. . . It is nothing; he will come to his senses in a moment.
He has merely chosen to forget a few things.
. . " "Not one of the Ten Heavenly Venerables may be spared! The reform must go on!
" The Woodcutter Sage raised his head and gazed gravely at the sky. "Shen Ye, I told you—we cannot migrate to the Land of No Worries, or else everything will be ruined! Our foundation, our foundation is here, on this land! " . .
.
Soon everyone grew used to the Woodcutter Sage's raving. The greatest mind under heaven in his day, now grown muddled—for he had been silent too long, and sorrow and the years had thinned his memory, leaving his thoughts disordered.
Master Dan examined him and said, "Nothing serious. It is only that the years lie too far behind him; his consciousness has been shielding him, forgetting the things he could not accept. Fetch the West Emperor to sound the war horn, and have the Pig Butcher beat the war drum, and he will wake. " The crowd nodded in silence.
In the First Epoch of the universe, time flew like a shuttle. Having endured eight hundred billion years, the First Epoch finally drew toward its end. The breath of the Calamity of Destruction filled the myriad heavens and worlds.
Even the most ancient beings were utterly bewildered before this tribulation, which came from no one knew where. Old Man Wuya rose from beneath his tree and watched the heavens perish one by one, a look of confusion on his face.
The Dao-attainers of the First Epoch were likewise at a loss. The worlds they sheltered withered without cease, life died without end, and they too sensed the peril. Their Dao began to rot, their Dao Trees to wither, their Dao Flowers to fall, their Dao Fruits to lose their spirit. The Dao-attainers made their way to the Ancestral Court, where there dwelt a majestic being. He was the first Dao-attainer of the First Epoch, the one who had founded the system of cultivation, of boundless wisdom and boundless power, and surely he would have a way to resolve this sudden calamity of destruction.
They called this majestic being Miluo. Miluo meant vast, supreme, boundless, and the place where he dwelt was likewise called Miluo Palace. When they arrived, they saw from afar that the first Dao-attainer was gathering the most precious divine metals of the Ancestral Court and, with his own vast might and cultivation, forging an enormous golden ship.
"This is the Golden Ship of Salvation. " The Lord of Miluo Palace said to the Dao-attainers who had come from afar, "I have sensed that this destruction will sweep over all things, shatter all things, level all things. But once all is destroyed, the universe will of itself open anew, and the Golden Ship of Salvation can carry the life of the entire universe forward to the next epoch. " The Dao-attainers of the First Epoch were filled with admiration.
Just then, the chaotic qi formed by the destruction of several dozen heavens joined together.
The wind of heat-death howled, turning the chaotic qi into a surging river that swept toward the other heavens. The Lord of Miluo Palace was astonished. He raised his head to look at that River of Chaos, his gaze deep, as though he had seen something. "Daoist Brother Miluo, what are you looking at? " one of the Dao-attainers asked.
"I seem to have seen a lotus leaf in that river, and within the lotus leaf, wrapped up, a baby girl.
" A doubtful look came over the Lord of Miluo Palace. "The lotus leaf has drifted away. Strange—how could any living thing survive in that long river.
. .
" Then his spirits rose and he smiled.
"That someone can survive shows that this calamity can surely be weathered! Make haste, my friends, and aid me—let us finish building this Golden Ship of Salvation and deliver all living beings!
" At that moment the River of Chaos churned once more, and one mighty figure after another came flying out from it. Though the Lord of Miluo Palace was full of misgivings, this was the critical period for refining the golden ship, and he had no leisure to go and look. Suddenly, a great hall wreathed in chaotic qi came spinning out of the River of Chaos.
The Lord of Miluo Palace raised his head and exchanged a distant look with the figure before that hall, then once more sank into the matter of shipbuilding. He did not know that on this day his future seventh disciple had returned. Five years later, the baby girl delivered by the lotus leaf, thin as kindling, tottered along after the refugees, struggling onward. One by one, the fleeing folk who had helped keep her alive fell, and were buried in this calamity of destruction.
She stood amid a mountain of corpses and lifted her head to look up. In the ruined world, she alone remained. The sea of fire warped, and the dreadful "demons" who had been hunting her finally found her, come to seize her, to destroy her. Then the Calamity of Destruction came to a halt.
A tall figure parted the sea of fire and walked toward her. "Found you.
Found you. .
.
my child. " A voice both familiar and strange sounded by her ear, as though it would awaken what was branded in her ever-blurring memory. The Daughter of Chaos.
