Chapter 23 — It's Raining in the Bathroom
Seeing Wei Zhao agree so readily, Zhong Yongliang did not quite know what to do with himself, and he, Zhang Naipao, and Gao Xiaofu exchanged glances. In the past, when they set out to teach someone a lesson, the victim would be scared half out of his wits; the moment he heard they were headed for the bathroom, he would usually start begging for mercy. Wei Zhao alone had actually said he happened to want to use the bathroom.
"Then let's go." Zhong Yongliang was thoroughly annoyed; talking to Wei Zhao gave him none of the pleasure of tormenting a man.
"Yaoyao, look, Arrow Brand Bro is really cocky." Shen Yushu waved her little fist in excitement. "There's going to be a good show in a minute."
"I'd say his brain's been punctured — one man against three, and he still puts on that act." Gu Mengyao curled her lip.
Wei Zhao, Zhong Yongliang, and the other two left the classroom, only to find Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu standing right at the door. Wei Zhao was unbothered — he had long known that little Shen Yushu would want to watch the fun — but Zhong Yongliang put on a fawning smile. "Yaoyao, what are you doing here?"
"And why shouldn't I be here? I go wherever I please — is that any of your business?" Gu Mengyao shot Zhong Yongliang a disdainful look. "What are you up to, anyway?"
"Me? This country bumpkin doesn't know how to behave, so I'm going to teach him how to be a man." Zhong Yongliang still had no idea that Wei Zhao and Gu Mengyao knew each other; he assumed there was nothing between them. In Zhong Yongliang's view, women generally liked forceful men — the more forceful he was, the more secure they would feel. So he always acted arrogant and overbearing in front of Gu Mengyao, never realizing that it only made her loathe him more.
"Oh, then you really ought to teach him properly." As she said this, Gu Mengyao gave Wei Zhao a cool glare, thinking: Serves you right for taking advantage of me yesterday — today you're getting what you deserve, aren't you?
"Yes, yes." Hearing Gu Mengyao approve of his view, Zhong Yongliang was instantly delighted. So Gu Mengyao liked watching him bully others! It seemed she liked that thuggish sort of student after all. If he had known that was her taste, wouldn't he have won her over long ago?
"Go Wei Zhao, go Wei Zhao!" Shen Yushu, however, chose this moment to start cheering.
Zhong Yongliang's face went black with exasperation. So these two sisters weren't on the same side after all? Shen Yushu actually liked a country bumpkin like Wei Zhao? Annoyed as he was, Zhong Yongliang could only pretend he hadn't heard; he could not afford to offend this little miss — her brother could punch him into outer space with one fist.
"Xiaoshu, why are you cheering for him?" Gu Mengyao frowned.
"You're cheering for Zhong Yongliang, so I'm cheering for Wei Zhao. That's only fair," Shen Yushu said, perfectly justified.
Wei Zhao did not linger; he turned and walked into the men's room.
"Hey, can't you do it out here instead of going into the bathroom?" Shen Yushu did not want them going inside — that way she would miss the show.
Zhong Yongliang pointed toward the bathroom, meaning that Wei Zhao had already gone in and there was nothing he could do. Originally he had wanted to settle it in the school corridor; it might draw the dean of students, but if it won him the favor of a beauty, he was willing to risk it.
In truth, students like Zhong Yongliang were still quite afraid of their homeroom teacher and the dean of students. After all, he was a student, not a street thug who feared nothing. If the dean really reported his misdeeds at school to his old man, he would not have an easy time of it at home either.
Most of the time, though, the homeroom teacher and the dean turned a blind eye to rich young masters like him who had bought their way in. They knew such students could not possibly study; so long as nothing serious happened, they let them be.
"How about you two come in and watch as well?" Zhong Yongliang said after a moment's hesitation.
"But that's the men's room!" Shen Yushu pointed at the big "Men" character above the door. "Little Liangzi, you're not trying to get us to break the rules, are you?"
Zhong Yongliang was none too pleased at being called "Little Liangzi," but there was nothing he could do about it. He forced a smile. "It's fine — everyone's out doing morning exercises, who'd be using the bathroom at this hour? We're going in first."
Fearing that Wei Zhao would hide in a stall and lock himself in, Zhong Yongliang hurried into the bathroom with Zhang Naipao and Gao Xiaofu.
"Yaoyao, how about we go in too?" Shen Yushu was not about to miss this spectacle. She still wanted to see Wei Zhao give Zhong Yongliang a good beating.
"That's not a good idea, is it?" Gu Mengyao hesitated; after all, she had never set foot in a men's room her whole life.
"Oh, come on, what's the big deal? Zhong Yongliang said it himself — nobody uses the bathroom at this hour." Without another word, Shen Yushu grabbed Gu Mengyao's hand and ran toward the men's room.
"Hey—" Gu Mengyao sighed. She felt vaguely that this was improper, and she had a bad premonition.
Wei Zhao really did need to use the bathroom. He had drunk a big bowl of noodle soup that morning, and the first two periods had gone to getting familiar with the classroom; he had not had a spare moment to go.
The bathroom was really quite upscale — it even had individual urinals, unlike the latrine pits in the village. In the mountain village where Wei Zhao had lived before, people simply found a spot wherever they needed to go.
Wei Zhao was pissing away happily when he heard footsteps behind him. In the glass on the side, he caught the reflections of Zhong Yongliang, Zhang Naipao, and Gao Xiaofu.
"Damn, this kid really is in here taking a leak?" Gao Xiaofu's eyes went wide. He marveled at how utterly clueless Wei Zhao was — the guy seemed afraid of nothing at all.
"Leave it to me." Zhong Yongliang cackled and ran at Wei Zhao. Yesterday Wei Zhao had landed a flying kick on his backside; today he was going to pay it back. Besides, a man in the middle of urinating was most vulnerable to outside interference — if interrupted, at best he would be startled into stopping midstream, at worst he could be left with a lasting problem. It had to be said that Zhong Yongliang was a nasty piece of work.
By choosing this moment to kick Wei Zhao, he might not only send him sprawling onto the urinal but also scare him half to death. Zhong Yongliang's mouth was practically crooked with glee as he tiptoed toward Wei Zhao.
Wei Zhao had long since seen Zhong Yongliang's movements in the reflection of the glass window beside him, and it struck him as rather funny. Just as Zhong Yongliang came up behind him, Wei Zhao whipped around, gritted his teeth, and let a stream of piss spray at Zhong Yongliang.
"Ah—!" Zhong Yongliang was startled out of his wits; his plan was thrown into instant disarray, and he scrambled backward. But how could he possibly outrun a stream of piss moving like water from a squirt gun?
As Zhong Yongliang screamed, he felt as though rain were falling on his face, soaking him through. The most tragic part was that his mouth had been wide open when he screamed — and so he got a mouthful of Wei Zhao's urine...
Zhong Yongliang struggled backward, stepped in Wei Zhao's puddle, and slipped at once, landing flat on his back on the floor.
"Ah—!" Along with Zhong Yongliang's scream, two other voices cried out. They belonged to Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu.
