The car stopped at the entrance of Xuehai Bookstore. On the way it had even passed Songshan No.1 High School, and the bookstore was only about one stop from the school, so he could walk back after buying books.

Wei Zhao paid the fare, walked into Xuehai Bookstore, asked the sales assistant at the door for directions, and headed straight for the medical books section.

At this hour there were not many people in the bookstore, and even fewer in the medicine section, with only a scholarly-looking old man standing before the shelves flipping through something.

Following the labels on the shelves, Wei Zhao found the books he needed and began to look through them. He wanted to confirm the properties of several uncommon Chinese herbs. Yang Huaijun's internal injuries were very complicated, and his bodily functions had been thrown into complete disorder under the suppression of painkillers. Yet for some unknown reason he had not died, and there must have been an expert regulating his body, for the power of the Yang family behind Yang Huaijun was not to be underestimated.

"Young man, are you fond of Chinese medicine?" At some point the scholarly old man had come to Wei Zhao's side, glanced at the book in his hands, and suddenly asked.

"I have done some research on it." Wei Zhao smiled and nodded to the scholarly old man.

"Are you a student at the nearby medical university, young man?" The old man showed no sign of letting the matter drop and went on asking.

"No, I am a student at Songshan No.1 High School." Wei Zhao answered casually. He did not dislike the old man, for he could see the man was the academic type. If he had been the sort who struck up conversations for some ulterior purpose, Wei Zhao would not have bothered to say another word.

"Oh? A high school student?" The old man was rather surprised by Wei Zhao's words. Few young people nowadays were interested in Chinese medicine. There were medical university students who came to the bookstore to look up materials for exams, but they had no real interest in Chinese medicine either. Guan Xuemin had spent years searching for a final disciple to inherit his mantle, but to no avail. He had not expected to run into a high school student interested in Chinese medicine here in the bookstore.

There were quite a few students at the medical university with some knowledge of Chinese medicine, but most of them leaned toward Western medicine, studying Chinese medicine only to broaden their knowledge. None of them had ever thought of making Chinese medicine their future career and field of research, which left Guan Xuemin deeply disappointed.

To inherit his mantle, one first had to be interested in Chinese medicine oneself. If one already felt Western medicine was superior to Chinese medicine, what talk could there be of carrying on his legacy?

"Young man, which do you think is more formidable, our Chinese medicine or Western medicine?" Guan Xuemin could not help asking.

"Each has its strengths, but I lean toward Chinese medicine." Wei Zhao closed the book in his hands and picked up another one beside it to look up what he wanted. "Western medicine treats the symptoms, Chinese medicine treats the root. In some cases you must treat the symptoms before you can cure the root, but merely treating the symptoms without curing the root is no good either."

Though Wei Zhao's words were somewhat ambiguous, they struck a chord in Guan Xuemin's heart. Nor was he a diehard partisan of Chinese medicine. On the contrary, he had also made a profound study of Western medicine. Each had its strengths, and only by taking the best of both could one save lives and heal the sick.

"Young man, are you interested in applying to the medical university?" Guan Xuemin felt a love for talent and found Wei Zhao more pleasing the more he looked at him.

"Well... I have not thought about it... It depends on my family." Wei Zhao truly had not considered it. Which university he applied to was not for him to decide, but for the old man and Gu Pengzhan to decide. If he got fired in the meantime, there would be no talk of university at all, and he would go straight back to the mountains.

"I see..." Guan Xuemin was a little disappointed after hearing Wei Zhao's words, but still unwilling to give up, he took a business card from his pocket and handed it to Wei Zhao. "Young man, this is my card. You can discuss it with your parents when you go back. If you wish to study medicine, I can arrange guaranteed admission for you. I still have that much authority."

Hearing Guan Xuemin's words, Wei Zhao took the card he handed over with some surprise.

Guan Xuemin, Dean of the School of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Songshan Medical and Pharmaceutical University.

Seeing Guan Xuemin's identity, Wei Zhao did not doubt what he said. Let alone the dean of a university's school of Chinese medicine, even a department head in the school would wield great power.

"Thank you." Although Wei Zhao had no plan to study medicine, he still politely put the card away.

"Of course, if you have any questions about Chinese medicine, you can also call me." Guan Xuemin said. Although he had not achieved his aim, he still hoped Wei Zhao would keep in touch with him.

"All right, Dean Guan." Wei Zhao nodded.

Guan Xuemin presumably had other business. He took the several books he had chosen and left first, leaving Wei Zhao alone to continue looking through the materials.

Wei Zhao did not take this little episode to heart. When it came to medical skill, who could compare with the old man of his own family? He had heard that when the old man was young, he had casually given a few pointers to a young Chinese doctor, and that young doctor later became a famous physician of his generation.

Of course, this was only something Wei Zhao had heard from the old man after he had been drinking, true or not. But over the years Wei Zhao had indeed learned a great deal from the old man.

Having found what he wanted, Wei Zhao put the books back. There was no need to buy them for now, and carrying such books back to school would surely draw many stares. Up to now, Wei Zhao still wanted to keep a low profile.

But Wei Zhao would probably find it impossible to keep a low profile now, for from the morning exercises today, his great name had spread throughout the whole campus.

On his way back to school, Wei Zhao casually bought a jianbing guozi from a small roadside stall to fill his stomach. By the time he got back to school, the canteen would probably have no food left.

Wei Zhao went straight back to the classroom and saw Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu both in their seats, still watching the cartoon Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf. When he entered the room, Shen Yushu glanced up at him and nudged Gu Mengyao with her finger.

Gu Mengyao lifted her eyelids, then returned to the MP4 in her hands. Wei Zhao ignored them both and went straight back to his own seat.

"Hey, Yao Yao, Brother Arrow is back, and it looks like he did not suffer any inhuman torture," Shen Yushu said. Having read too many novels, she thought anyone who went into the police station would come out with a layer of skin peeled off.

"Hmph, would that little girl Qiu Lingshan be willing to do anything to him? He came out so fast, she must have let him go." Gu Mengyao curled her lip, as if displeased that Wei Zhao had returned from the police station so quickly.

"Hey... Yao Yao, you do not think those two did that in the police station too, do you?" Shen Yushu fantasized wickedly.

"Xiao Shu, you are too wicked." Gu Mengyao frowned. "Do not disgust me. I do not want to throw up what I ate for lunch."

At Gu Mengyao's mention of throwing up, Shen Yushu wickedly recalled how Gu Mengyao had eaten Wei Zhao's saliva before, and could not help laughing softly...
