Chapter 144 — Tracking the Little Spy

The Blossom Guardian

Wei Zhao stared in astonishment at the text Gu Mengyao had sent back. The first part, "You don't need to report to me where you go," was nothing surprising to him. It was exactly Gu Mengyao's way of doing things, nothing unusual at all.

But the line after that, "Still, watch out for fooling around with others, someone has already come knocking," was baffling. What did watch out for fooling around mean? What someone coming knocking? Who had he flirted with or provoked? Who had come?

Puzzled, Wei Zhao sent a text back: "Who came looking for me?"

Looking at the message Wei Zhao sent back, Gu Mengyao frowned. Was this guy playing dumb, or did he really not know? For Tang Yun, the great campus beauty, to come looking for him, such a big thing, how could it be possible unless they had arranged it beforehand?

Yet that was only what Gu Mengyao imagined. Looked at from another angle, if they really had an appointment, Wei Zhao could not have failed to tell Tang Yun that he would not be at school in the morning, so the two of them really did not look like they had planned it in advance.

So Gu Mengyao could not say much more, and could only reply: "Tang Yun came looking for you several times. Did you know she was looking for you? Who is Xiaohei?"

Only after her anger had passed did Gu Mengyao remember to ask who the "Xiaohei" mentioned in Wei Zhao's text was. Why did it sound like a dog's name?

Tang Yun? Wei Zhao froze. Tang Yun had come to find him? Judging by how furious she had looked that morning, as if she would never bother with him again, would she really take the initiative to come find him now?

Wei Zhao knitted his brows, unable to figure out why Tang Yun wanted him, and sent Gu Mengyao another text: "Xiaohei? That's Black Panther. What did Tang Yun want with me for?"

Looking at Wei Zhao's text, Gu Mengyao could not help being amused. Xiaohei... was Black Panther? She had heard something of Black Panther's reputation. Before, Zhong Yongliang had bragged in class to the skies, about ruling heaven and earth, leading the streets, taking on ten men alone and the like. And such an awesome figure had been kicked to the ground by Wei Zhao and stomped until his face was out of shape...

Ha... Gu Mengyao smiled faintly, but Wei Zhao's question afterward, "What did Tang Yun want with me," annoyed her a little. Did he not know himself?

"How would I know? Your own trouble, you deal with it yourself." Gu Mengyao sent that back, then put her phone away inside her desk, ready for class.

"Yao-yao jie, what did Arrow Brand Bro say?" Shen Yushu asked after Gu Mengyao had put the phone into her desk.

"You were peeking from the side just now, did you think I didn't know?" Gu Mengyao was speechless at Shen Yushu's deliberate question.

"Hehe..." Shen Yushu looked a little embarrassed. "I thought you could figure it out..."

"Do you take me for a fortune-teller or some great immortal? Figure it out?" Gu Mengyao snorted. "Besides, why would I analyze him?"

"Oh." Seeing Gu Mengyao's sharp tone, Shen Yushu said no more and obediently got ready for class.

After class, Wei Zhao left the classroom and walked toward Class Nine, Senior Year Three, where Tang Yun was. Tang Yun had no phone, so he could not call or text her, he could only go find her in person.

Watching Wei Zhao's back as he walked out of the classroom, Gu Mengyao knew he must be going to find Tang Yun, though the thought left her feeling distinctly annoyed.

"Yao-yao jie, want me to tail him?" Shen Yushu started offering rotten ideas again.

"Give me a break." Gu Mengyao nearly blacked out, black lines all but popping over her head. "You tail him? Don't you know how formidable that kid is? Could you even tail him? If he catches you, he'll think I sent you."

"Oh, then I'll follow him openly and say I was just curious myself." Shen Yushu said breezily, not caring at all.

Gu Mengyao was truly at a loss for words. "Then go yourself, but whatever you do, don't say I told you to."

"Oh, I'm going then, don't worry, Yao-yao jie, I would never sell you out." Shen Yushu said solemnly.

"That's more like it... Huh?" Gu Mengyao froze, then realized Shen Yushu had twisted her around. "What do you mean sell me out? You wanted to go yourself, what does it have to do with me? You wretched girl!"

As she spoke, Gu Mengyao reached out to grab Shen Yushu, meaning to teach her a lesson.

Shen Yushu giggled, darted quickly away, and Gu Mengyao missed her.

Wei Zhao had not gone two steps before he felt as if someone was following him. The feeling was mysterious, something you could call an aura, or a sixth sense.

The so-called sixth sense is a marvelous feeling. When someone stares at you or watches you from behind, though you have no eyes in the back of your head, if that person's gaze is hostile, you will involuntarily feel a chill, what might be called killing intent.

Even without killing intent, being stared at will make you uneasy, uncomfortable, as if being spied on. In truth, that too is a kind of aura perception.

This thing is mysterious, vague and intangible, yet many people can keenly sense it when they are spied on or stared at. Wei Zhao was just such a person.

Wei Zhao paid it no mind. This person bore him no killing intent, which proved he could not be his enemy. Most importantly, the jade pendant had given no warning, so for the moment Wei Zhao could ignore him.

Arriving at the doorway of Class Nine, Senior Year Three, Wei Zhao caught sight of who was behind him in the reflection on the glass of the open classroom door. It was actually Shen Yushu. Wei Zhao smiled faintly. What a curious baby, but let her be.

He walked two more steps to a spot near Tang Yun's seat and knocked on the window facing the corridor. The window was tightly shut at the moment, the curtain inside drawn as well, so he could not tell whether Tang Yun was there or not. He was only trying his luck. Still, having come the moment class ended, she was unlikely to have left the room.

Hearing someone knock on the window beside her, Tang Yun lifted the curtain in surprise and glanced outside. Seeing it was Wei Zhao, she panicked and instinctively let the curtain fall again...

But once it was down, Tang Yun remembered that Wei Zhao had probably heard from a classmate that she had looked for him that morning and had come back to find her, so she hurriedly pulled the curtain open again and opened the window.

"You... you're here?" Tang Yun was still annoyed that Wei Zhao had been absent from school all morning, making her run over for nothing several times.

"Ha, I went to take care of something this morning. After we parted at the school gate, I left." Wei Zhao smiled.

"What you went to do... you don't need to explain to me..." His words sounded a little intimate and embarrassed Tang Yun. Parting at the school gate... it sounded as if the two of them had come to school together, so Tang Yun hastily waved her hands, eager to draw a clear line between them.

"All right, I heard you came looking for me this morning? What is it?" Wei Zhao did not dwell on that topic, but asked about the real business.

What was it? Looking at Wei Zhao's innocent face, Tang Yun wanted to go up and bite him. This man was infuriating. Wasn't it you who said you would give my mother the formula? Have you changed your mind now and don't want to give it, or are you deliberately toying with me?
