Chapter 201 — Intermittent Psychosis: In the ward, Kang Xiaozhuobo got a fright, and so did Tang Yun and Liu Xinwen.
Every time Xiaofen had an episode it was like this: she sank into hallucinations, and she had to rave for a while before she could slowly fall asleep; when she woke, she remembered nothing. This time, the jump from the window was the result of one such fit.
Intermittent psychosis. Wei Zhao sighed faintly. Xiaofen had suffered a severe wound of the heart, and it had left her with a psychological block; because it had never been guided properly, it had come to this.
But intermittent psychosis is not the same as psychosis proper. It is only the earliest warning sign. With the right guidance and treatment, together with acupuncture, the symptoms can be eased and rooted out altogether.
When Song Huiping heard the name Kang Zhaoming and then looked at Kang Xiaozhuobo, astonishment suddenly showed on her face as well!
Kang Xiaozhuobo did bear a certain resemblance to that scoundrel. Song Huiping frowned. No wonder her daughter had suddenly relapsed; no wonder she had just gone mad and jumped from the building... So it was this student who had done it!
But on second thought, a man could hardly be blamed for the face he was born with, and besides, he was her daughter's savior. How could she hold a grudge against him?
"Zhaoming, you still have me in your heart, don't you?" Xiaofen gazed at Kang Xiaozhuobo with glazed eyes, flailing her arms, about to climb out of bed and go to him; the IV needle in her hand nearly flew out with her thrashing.
Kang Xiaozhuobo was startled. Afraid she would get out of bed, he hurried over, only for Xiaofen to seize him in her arms and cling to him, refusing to let go.
"Zhaoming, in the end you came back to see me. This time you won't leave, will you? You'll be good to me for the rest of your life, won't you?" Xiaofen said, holding Kang Xiaozhuobo.
"This..." Kang Xiaozhuobo was somewhat embarrassed. This was the scene he had longed for, Xiaofen in his arms; before, he would have thought it could only be a fantasy. But now that the fantasy had come true, he could not feel the least bit glad.
Because of Xiaofen's illness, and because another man still occupied her heart! Though it was he, Kang Xiaozhuobo, whom Xiaofen held, he was only a stand-in for another man, Kang Zhaoming!
Kang Xiaozhuobo wanted to push her away. This embrace made him wretched; he did not want this kind of embrace. What he wanted was an embrace given sincerely, when Xiaofen was lucid.
"Auntie Song..." Kang Xiaozhuobo looked up at Song Huiping.
"I'm sorry, young man, that you had to see this..." Song Huiping was helpless too. "Wait here a moment. I'll go get the doctor."
Calling the doctor was the only thing Song Huiping could do; she had no other recourse.
"Wait!" Wei Zhao sighed softly. Since he had run into this affair himself, and since it had to do with Kang Xiaozhuobo, he really could not stand by and do nothing.
The hospital's only ways to calm Xiaofen were electric shock or injection, and either one would harm her body. Especially now, when she was so terribly weak; another injection, or a shock to put her under, would only leave her weaker still.
That said, Wei Zhao did not wait for Song Huiping to answer. He strode to Xiaofen's side, glanced at the IV in her hand, saw that the needle had slipped out of the vein, and without hesitation pulled it free. Then he shut off the drip, and with that same needle swiftly pierced the points Hegu, Jianshi, Shenmen, Baihui, Daling, and others. The raving Xiaofen gradually grew calm, released Kang Xiaozhuobo, and quietly sank back onto the bed...
"This..." Song Huiping saw Wei Zhao piercing her daughter with a needle and was about to stop him, but his movements were so fast that he had finished before she could.
In the ward, Tang Yun, Liu Xinwen, and Kang Xiaozhuobo all stared at Wei Zhao in shock, not knowing what he was doing.
"Boss, what are you..." Instinctively, Kang Xiaozhuobo chose to trust Wei Zhao. He cared deeply about Xiaofen, but his intuition told him that Wei Zhao would never harm her. So he felt that Wei Zhao must have had a reason for all of this.
"It's just simple acupuncture," Wei Zhao said with a shrug. "For the moment she'll be calm and drift off to sleep. When she wakes, she'll be herself again."
"Huh? Acupuncture?" Kang Xiaozhuobo looked at Wei Zhao in disbelief. "Boss, you know acupuncture?"
Not only Kang Xiaozhuobo; Tang Yun and Liu Xinwen also stared at Wei Zhao in astonishment. He actually knew acupuncture?
Song Huiping felt for her daughter's breath and, finding nothing wrong, was finally reassured. Wei Zhao had calmed her daughter by such simple means, saving her the trouble of fetching the doctor; and not only did it spare her the medical fees, it spared her daughter any suffering.
Tang Yun felt she understood the man before her less and less... Call him a spoiled rich boy, and it did not quite fit; yet he was more domineering than any of those rich boys! When he dealt with someone, he never went soft.
But then he knew the recipe for the barbecue sauce, and that was not something one could just throw together at random. Wei Zhao had written it out in the space of a single class...
And that was not all. Today, at the scene of Lan Fen's jump, no one else had noticed Wei Zhao, but Tang Yun had. Was it he who had helped Kang Xiaozhuobo catch Lan Fen?
Before that doubt could be dispelled, Wei Zhao revealed yet another formidable skill, acupuncture, and Tang Yun was forced to see him anew... He really was different from the kind of young master Xiaofen had known before!
So what if he was different? Tang Yun cursed inwardly. Even if he was, she would never go out with him. Her first duty was the college entrance exam; she could not let herself be distracted.
Hmph, hmph. Little Tang Yun reminded herself: it was all a facade. Do not be taken in by him. Absolutely not!
Still, the commotion in the room had alerted the hospital's doctors; no doubt a relative of another patient in the same ward had gone to fetch one. A doctor came running in. "What's happened to the patient in Bed Four?"
"It's all right now, doctor. Sorry to trouble you. It's all right now!" Seeing the doctor arrive, Song Huiping rose hastily to explain.
"All right now?" The doctor was taken aback. Hadn't he been told that the patient in Bed Four had gone into a psychotic fit and was raving?
"This young man used acupuncture to put my daughter to sleep," Song Huiping added, afraid the doctor would not believe her.
Hearing this, Wei Zhao groaned inwardly. You would have been better off saying nothing; now that you've explained, there'll be trouble!
Sure enough, the moment the doctor heard her words, his expression changed. "Acupuncture? How? How can you go doing things so recklessly in a hospital? What if someone dies?"
"It wasn't reckless... it was just with the needle from the IV drip..." Song Huiping, startled too, said cautiously.
"The needle from an IV drip?" A vein throbbed on the doctor's forehead. What kind of doctor was this? A wandering quack? Acupuncture with an IV needle? What sort of master had taught him that?
