Chapter 216 — Try to Understand
Kang frowned. An environment like this was hardly conducive to Xiaofen's condition — she needed quiet and rest, and amid all this racket, how could she possibly make a good recovery?
But thinking of Xiaofen's family circumstances, Kang could only sigh inwardly. His own family was not well-off either; otherwise, he could perfectly well have paid out of his own pocket to move her to a better room.
Wei Zhao naturally noticed the expression on Kang's face. With a faint smile, he clapped a hand on his shoulder. "The deposit I paid should be enough to move her to a better room."
As for Wu Chengtian's money, Wei Zhao could not have cared less. Spent was spent — and it was not going to some stranger, but quite possibly to his future sister-in-law. Naturally, he felt no pang about it.
"But... Boss, this money..." Kang hesitated. After all, Wei Zhao's money really ought to count as a loan to Xiaofen's family. Wei Zhao was not him, after all — to sink money into Xiaofen like this, with no return of any kind...
"Heh. Then just consider it spent on you — and you needn't pay it back." Wei Zhao smiled.
"Thank you..." Kang nodded and made no pretense of refusing. He knew Wei Zhao was not joking but meant every word. So Kang did not stand on ceremony. A boss like this — he could follow him for a lifetime and never regret it.
Kang strode quickly to Xiaofen's bed. She had woken by now, and some color had returned to her face. Tang Yun and Liu Xinwen were both there, keeping her company and chatting with her, while Song Huiping sat to one side peeling an apple for her.
"Aunt Song..." Kang felt a touch awkward. After all, he was hardly acquainted with the family. Having saved Xiaofen yesterday, following her to the hospital was one thing — but turning up again today would make it look like something else entirely.
Wei Zhao truly wanted to kick the fellow before him to death. So now chasing a girl came with making up tales about your own boss behind his back? And dragging his relationship with Tang Yun into the bargain?
Sure enough, Tang Yun shot Kang a somewhat displeased glare — and yet, frustratingly, she could hardly argue! Because Kang's intentions were good: he meant to get Xiaofen a better room!
Tang Yun knew as well as anyone that a room like this was bad for Xiaofen's condition. To deny Kang's words would amount to leaving Xiaofen right here, would it not?
She thought it over and said to herself: this young master Wei Zhao was rich anyway — what did it matter if he spent a little? What business was it of hers? It was his money bankrolling his little follower's girl-chasing, after all... With that thought, Tang Yun felt a good deal easier.
Xiaofen glanced at Tang Yun in some bewilderment. Seeing that she said nothing, she turned to Liu Xinwen — who gave her a sly nod. Xiaofen was puzzled. Tang Yun... was in love too?
With that boss of Kang's — the very man standing before her?
But with so many people in the room, her mother among them, Xiaofen could hardly press for details, and so she took Kang at his word.
"Aunt Song, don't you worry — I'm the one putting up the money. Let's get Xiaofen moved to another room!" And with great enthusiasm, Kang made to go find a doctor.
Wei Zhao could well understand Kang's eagerness to make a showing — after all, this was the first girl the fellow had ever lost his heart to, and he was bound to want to cut a figure. So Wei Zhao merely laughed off the fabrication Kang had made at his expense.
He beckoned to Tang Yun. She looked up, puzzled, and pointed a finger at herself — did he mean her?
Wei Zhao nodded. Only then did Tang Yun rise, none too willingly, and walk over to him. "What is it?"
"For Kang to court Xiaofen, he needed some excuse to get close to her — so he went and made a story out of the two of us..." Wei Zhao explained. "Try to understand, will you?"
"Oh." Tang Yun nodded, somewhat put out, but raised no objection. "Just don't take it seriously, that's all."
"Heh. I won't." Wei Zhao smiled. "Come on, let's go along with Kang and see how the room transfer goes — and while we're at it, tell me what Xiaofen thinks of him?"
