Chapter 219 — Easy Come, Easy Go

The Blossom Guardian

The director of the inpatient department had been trying to gauge just how close the relationship between Wei Zhao and Guan Xuemin really was, for the gravity of the matter hung upon it. If Wei Zhao and Guan Xuemin were merely acquaintances, not particularly close, then the whole affair could simply be allowed to blow over... But if they were close, then he would inevitably have left Guan Xuemin and Director Qin with a poor impression of him...

And now, here was Guan Xuemin's own granddaughter, and she knew Wei Zhao as well — did that not mean Wei Zhao was on intimate terms with the entire Guan family?

Guan Xin had finished up on her end, and somehow, without quite knowing how, she had wandered over to the inpatient department. She simply wanted to see whether she might run into Wei Zhao again; she had no particular aim in mind, since she had never asked him which room he was in.

Suddenly hearing Wei Zhao call her name, Guan Xin brightened at once, a sweet smile curving her lips. "Wei Zhao, I just came by to see if there was anything I could help with."

"Oh, nothing for now — it's all been taken care of." Wei Zhao glanced at the inpatient department director as he spoke.

At his words, Guan Xin felt the conversation stall; she did not know what to say next. Then she noticed the woman beside Wei Zhao — a beauty to rival herself — and all at once felt rather deflated. "This is... your girlfriend?"

"No... I have nothing to do with him..." Before Wei Zhao could speak, Tang Yun sprang up as though her tail had been stepped on, waving her hands frantically.

"Oh," Guan Xin breathed a sigh of relief, then said to Wei Zhao, "Give me your number. I never thanked you for last time — when I'm off shift, let me treat you to a meal."

Wei Zhao did not mind; he recited a number. Guan Xin saved it, then rang it once so that her own number would show up on his phone. Beside them, though, Tang Yun's brow furrowed. He had helped her? A pang of regret rose in her heart — why had she been in such a hurry to explain away her relationship with Wei Zhao?

This fellow certainly had a way with women — in the blink of an eye he was cozying up to a pretty young nurse. Feeling somewhat forlorn, Tang Yun quickened her pace.

Guan Xin was a little older and more mature than Tang Yun. Seeing her reaction, she could not help but smile faintly, and said to Wei Zhao, "Your friend seems jealous. I'll be going, then — call me when you're free."

"Heh..." Wei Zhao chuckled. "All right, we'll keep in touch by phone."

Guan Xin had only wanted to come and see Wei Zhao. Yet now that she had actually walked over and laid eyes on him, she found she did not know what to say or do.

Watching Wei Zhao and Tang Yun's departing backs, Guan Xin sighed softly to herself — though she could not say just what it was she was sighing for...

In a deluxe ward, Zhao Guangdong was fawningly peeling an orange for his boss. "President Zou, this room's not bad, eh? No different from a five-star hotel, is it?"

"Mm, not bad, Guangdong. I never knew you had connections in the hospital — seems I underestimated you before!" President Zou said. "Looks like I'll have to promote you after this!"

"Heh heh, not at all. I'm just the sort who gets along well wherever he goes — friends everywhere, and everyone does me a favor!" Zhao Guangdong laughed.

"That's right, President Zou, our Guangdong here has friends everywhere!" the heavily made-up woman chimed in from the side. "Just now some little idiot came asking for a deluxe ward, and the inpatient department director wouldn't even give him the time of day. But the moment our Guangdong brought a friend over, the room was ours!"

"Who are you calling a little idiot?" The ward door was flung open, and Kang Xiaobo stormed in, furious, jabbing a finger at the heavily made-up woman.

"Huh? So what if I called you a little idiot? You even tracked us down here? What, not convinced? Shall I have security throw you out? You've got three seconds — get lost!" As she spoke, the heavily made-up woman reached for the call button on the bed to summon someone.

"Ha, you got that right — the ones who should get lost are the little idiots. Now you can get lost." Wei Zhao followed Kang Xiaobo into the ward. "Idiots, shall we have security throw you out?"

"What's going on here? Guangdong, who are these people?" President Zou frowned, eyeing the newcomers with displeasure.

"President Zou, I'll go call security right now!" Zhao Guangdong was clearly the timid sort who liked to put on airs — he dared not raise a hand, yet was unwilling to lose face.

"No need to call anyone! This ward goes to them now!" The inpatient department director sighed. These people were no pushovers either — the moment they walked in, they had offended everyone in the room beyond repair, leaving not the slightest room for negotiation.

The director had originally meant to explain his difficulties to Zhao Guangdong nicely and reasonably, and have them move out. But now there was no point in explaining — any explanation would be superfluous. He had to stand firmly on Wei Zhao's side, no matter what.

"You heard him?" Kang Xiaobo's arrogance surged at once, and he pointed at Zhao Guangdong. "However you moved in, you move out the same way — that's an order!"

Those words were the ones Wei Zhao had just spoken, but Kang Xiaobo did not care. When the boss said something, a lackey like him could naturally use it too. Besides, he thought the line was pretty badass — it carried real weight when spoken aloud.

When Zhao Guangdong heard the inpatient department director's words, his expression changed at once. He did not care what Kang Xiaobo said, but the director's words he could not afford to ignore.

This was a hospital — someone else's turf. He was not so bold as to argue with the inpatient department director. He immediately put on a smiling face and asked, perplexed, "Director Ma, didn't we already agree on this?"

"They came first — first come, first served, after all!" At this point Director Ma was growing impatient, afraid that keeping Wei Zhao waiting would displease him. He waved a hand at Zhao Guangdong. "All right, pack up quickly and move to a regular double room. It's just an IV drip — I've already made the arrangements."

"But... Director Ma, for Dr. Liao's sake... and besides, President Zou is here too..." Zhao Guangdong was in a bind. He did not know why Director Ma had suddenly changed his mind, but he had just boasted to his boss — if they had to switch rooms now, President Zou would surely be displeased.

Sure enough, before Zhao Guangdong could say another word, President Zou spoke up first. "Director Ma, is it? I'm Zou Tiandi of Tiandi Group — a brother to Director Sun of the district health bureau."

But Director Ma could not afford to worry about such things now. He would rather offend the district health bureau director than offend Guan Xuemin!
