Chapter 240 — A Public Slap in the Face
"Ah... not at all, it's nothing, nothing..." Wang Zhifeng was thoroughly depressed. It was all his own fault for lacking self-control — caught red-handed in his own office by Wei Zhao. Otherwise, why would he have to grovel like this?
Wei Zhao nodded, then took the somewhat panicked Tang Yun by the hand and headed toward Zou Ruoming. Tang Yun shrank back a little, trying to pull her hand free, but she was no match for his strength...
By now Tang Yun was dazed. Holding hands with a boy right in front of the Director of Academic Affairs — she would never have dared even imagine such a thing! She would probably be expelled for it... And yet... Director Wang seemed not to have noticed at all, still wearing that kindly, amiable look for Wei Zhao.
To be honest, Tang Yun was afraid of Zou Ruoming, deep down — a fear that lived in the mind. Zou Ruoming did whatever he pleased, and there was no telling what he might do to her next.
But with Wei Zhao she had never felt that way — not before, and certainly not now...
Smack. A loud slap landed across Zou Ruoming's face.
Wang Zhifeng was stunned. Zou Ruoming's lackeys in the room were stunned. Even Tang Yun stared at Wei Zhao in disbelief.
He had actually slapped Zou Ruoming across the face — right in front of the Director of Academic Affairs?
After the shock, Zou Ruoming's eyes filled with deep hatred and fear. He really was a little afraid of Wei Zhao; the kid was ruthless — not your ordinary ruthless sort.
"One slap, just to clear your head. Tang Yun is my woman! If you so much as think about her again, I'll make you disappear from this school!" Wei Zhao's words were ambiguous — disappear from this school. In truth, what he meant was disappear from the face of the earth.
Domineering! Brazen! Arrogant!
That was the verdict of the students who witnessed it.
Slapping someone in the face right in front of the Director of Academic Affairs — who else could do such a thing? Who would dare? Yet Wei Zhao did it, and Wang Zhifeng did not say a single word against it.
Not only that — Wei Zhao had declared in front of Wang Zhifeng that Tang Yun was his woman. Since the founding of First High School, from ancient times to the present, there had probably never been a second person who dared.
Even the legendary leader of the campus's Four Great Villains had never been so arrogant.
Tang Yun's face burned red. She was annoyed, and yet somewhere in her heart there was a flicker of delight... Wei Zhao had told the Director of Academic Affairs that she was his woman?
Something so insane gave Tang Yun — the school's model good girl — a sudden, rebellious thrill.
"All right, Director Wang, carry on. Seems to me these few just need a good beating. Wouldn't you say?" Having finished with Zou Ruoming, Wei Zhao turned to Wang Zhifeng and spoke as though nothing had happened, as if that slap had not come from his own hand.
"Heh heh..." Wang Zhifeng gave a dry laugh. He had no heart left for scolding Zou Ruoming either; he waved a hand and sent them off.
Wei Zhao, too, took Tang Yun by the hand and headed for the classroom building.
"Let go of me..." After a couple of steps Tang Yun came back to herself and hurriedly shook her arm, trying to break free of his grip.
Wei Zhao had only been holding on so she would not run off; now there was no need, so he let her hand go.
"Why did you say I'm your... your woman?" Tang Yun stared at him wide-eyed, as if cross-examining him. "What am I supposed to do from now on? How embarrassing is that?"
"Heh. I just wanted you to see that there's nothing to fear in Zou Ruoming," Wei Zhao said, not answering her question directly. "I could feel your fear of him, so I showed you in the only way that counts — I can beat him whenever I like. I can slap his face right in front of the Director of Academic Affairs!"
"Ah..." Tang Yun was slightly taken aback. She had not expected that this was why he had done it... and warmth suddenly welled up in her heart. Thinking it over carefully now, Zou Ruoming really did not seem as terrifying as before.
A villain had been sent crashing down from his altar by Wei Zhao. A villain who could be slapped at any moment and dared not utter a word of complaint — was he still a villain at all?
Though Tang Yun did not much approve of violence, there was a saying that hit the mark: it takes a rogue to catch a rogue.
"Even so, you can't say things like that in front of so many people... I'm a girl, you know. Not like you — you have no shame!" Though touched, Tang Yun refused to give him the last word.
"Heh..." Wei Zhao did not answer. "Let's go. Class is about to start..."
"Mm..." Tang Yun had only been venting; she did not argue further. For some reason, the resistance she had once felt toward Wei Zhao was gone. Even after what he had said, there was no aversion in her heart. "By the way, yesterday... when you helped purge the drug from my body, how did you do it?"
Yesterday had been too rushed for Tang Yun to ask; remembering it today, she hurried to get the question out.
"That? It's a form of traditional Chinese massage therapy, similar to acupuncture." Naturally Wei Zhao would not explain the Xuanyuan Dragon-Taming Art or the matter of energy elements — Tang Yun would not have understood even if he had.
"I see... Then, Wei Zhao, can you cure Xiaofen's illness?" Tang Yun had been mulling this over since yesterday. She did not know where Wei Zhao had learned his medicine, but after two demonstrations, the results spoke for themselves.
Once when Xiaofen had a seizure, and once yesterday when he purged the poison from her own body — that proved Wei Zhao had real skill. So Tang Yun wondered: if that was so, could Wei Zhao cure Xiaofen's illness?
"I should be able to. But not right now..." Wei Zhao had no nerve-stimulating drugs on hand. He had only prepared a batch back home — the ones the old man had once used to strengthen his own constitution — and he had not brought them with him.
Xiaofen's legs would have to be restored through acupuncture combined with nerve-stimulating drugs; acupuncture alone would not accomplish much.
"Oh..." Tang Yun, however, took this to mean that Wei Zhao's medical skill was not great enough to reach the level of curing Xiaofen's illness, and she nodded, a little disappointed.
The bell rang for class. Wei Zhao and Tang Yun quickened their pace. As they neared the Senior Year Class Nine classroom, Tang Yun suddenly sped up, evidently wanting to put some distance between herself and Wei Zhao.
Wei Zhao smiled and did not follow. Only after Tang Yun had entered the classroom did he hurry back to his own class.
"Boss, you were so cool just now!" No sooner had Wei Zhao sat down than Kang Xiaobo turned around and gave him a thumbs-up.
"What do you mean?" Wei Zhao was startled. Could the kid have seen something?
"I was at the corridor window just now. I saw you slap Zou Ruoming — right in front of Director Wang! Boss, you're a legend!" Kang Xiaobo's admiration knew no bounds.
"Nobody else saw, did they?" Wei Zhao frowned. He had not expected Kang Xiaobo to witness that.
"No, just me." Kang Xiaobo nodded.
"Good." Wei Zhao breathed a sigh of relief. As long as the young miss had not seen it — otherwise there would be trouble again once he got home. "By the way, what was it you wanted to see me about earlier?"
