Chapter 249 — Are You Out of Your Mind? By the Time Sun Jingyan Arrived, Wei Zhao Had Already Been Waiting for Over Ten Minutes
"I thought you weren't coming. I was just about to head home." Wei Zhao lazily pulled open the car door and got in.
"Traffic was awful — it's rush hour." Sun Jingyan sounded a little apologetic. "Little husband, shall we go get something to eat first?"
"Who's your husband?" Wei Zhao frowned. "Are you out of your mind? Don't go calling me that. Did I ever agree to it?"
Why was this girl so clingy? It wouldn't matter much if Gu Mengyao heard it — she'd just blow up and be done with it. But if Tang Yun heard, she'd start wondering what was really going on between them!
What galled him most was this: if he really had done something with Sun Jingyan, that would be one thing — Wei Zhao had never been the sort to shy from trouble. The problem was that nothing had happened at all. To be saddled with the title of Sun Jingyan's husband for nothing — how unfair was that? And he would still have to go clean up her messes for her.
"I'm your lover now. How can you deny it?" Sun Jingyan giggled. "You said it yourself. A gentleman's word is his bond — a team of four horses cannot overtake it."
Wei Zhao shut his mouth. He had indeed said that, which was why he had kept his word and come to help Sun Jingyan deal with her trouble. But keeping his word was one thing; a few grumbles were only natural.
"I'll own it. But stop calling me husband — it gives me the creeps. Nothing good ever follows when you say it." Wei Zhao shrugged.
"Fine, then. I'll only say it when something good is coming." Sun Jingyan seized the opening and climbed right up.
"Suit yourself." Wei Zhao really could not be bothered to argue. To be honest, Sun Jingyan was truly beautiful, and if she weren't so much trouble, he wouldn't have minded a little flirtation with her. But she was simply too much trouble. "Forget the food. Where are we stealing the data from? Let's get this over with, quick and clean."
"Going now... might be a bit of a problem." Sun Jingyan glanced at the clock on the dashboard. "According to the people I sent to watch him, Zhang Tongtian of Tongtianqi Trading Company brought his woman back to his place. They're probably going at it right now, so it won't be easy for you to make your move... I was thinking we wait a while, until they're both asleep, and then you go up."
"It's fine." Wei Zhao said indifferently. "I'm the one stealing, not you. Let's get it done fast — I've got things to do tonight."
"All right." Since Wei Zhao had said so, Sun Jingyan said no more. She started the car and drove toward Zhang Tongtian's residence.
You had to admit, the name Zhang Tongtian had real punch to it — as though he had a hand in everything under heaven.
Zhang Tongtian lived in an upscale villa compound, each home a detached little villa of its own. It was plain that his company was genuinely profitable. People in the trading business generally had connections; without a network, you couldn't make a go of it.
When Sun Jingyan drove into the compound, the security guard barely checked her before waving her through. A red Audi A4L — not an especially luxurious car, but a favorite of many young women, and there were plenty of them in the compound.
She parked near a three-story villa and pointed at it. "That's the one. The recording is saved on a silver DV. Have a look around — it should be in the briefcase he carries with him. He's careful with that sort of thing; he won't hand it over to anyone else to keep."
Wei Zhao nodded and got out of the car. "Wait for me here."
"How are you going to get in..." Sun Jingyan was about to ask how he planned to get past the villa's wall, when she saw that Wei Zhao had already nimbly vaulted over it...
Could he really be a master thief? Sun Jingyan blinked. This man surprised her more and more. Not only were his hands formidable, his physical skills were astonishingly good as well. How had a man like this ended up in Songshan City?
Sun Jingyan was still wondering how Wei Zhao would get into the villa when she saw him scale the wall like Spider-Man, entering through an open second-floor window.
Sun Jingyan could hardly believe it. He had just climbed in, like that?
In truth, this was nothing to Wei Zhao. Black Panther could leap straight up to a second floor, and so could Wei Zhao. He simply did not want to reveal too much of his ability in front of Sun Jingyan, so he chose to climb — something any reasonably skilled man could manage.
This was the second-floor living room. The lights were on, but no one was there. From a bedroom a short way off to the left, its door half open, came the sounds of a man and woman in the throes of passion.
Wei Zhao ignored them for the moment and began searching for the DV camera Sun Jingyan had mentioned. But he did not rummage at random; instead he swept his eyes around the living room.
Probably because Zhang Tongtian had rushed to get his woman into his arms the moment he got home, his clothes and his bag had been tossed carelessly onto the sofa in a corner of the living room. Perhaps it had never even occurred to him that someone might climb in through the living room at this hour. It was only a little past seven in the evening — hardly the time for burglars to be about.
Wei Zhao barely had to search. He fished a small silver DV out of the bag on the sofa and glanced at it — a high-definition model, no less. Muting the speaker, he turned on the playback.
Sure enough, the screen showed a café. One man was handing another a bank card, saying something as he did. The footage was very clear — it must have been shot from a table nearby, without either man noticing.
No doubt neither of them had imagined that a transaction they had carried out any number of times would be caught on camera.
Wei Zhao turned off the DV, pulled out the memory card, and slipped it into his pocket. He was just about to put the DV back in the bag and leave when he suddenly noticed there was a spare memory card in the bag as well!
A backup? Wei Zhao slid the spare card into the DV, only to find he had overestimated Zhang Tongtian's intelligence. The card was blank — there was nothing on it at all.
It must have been the one the seller had thrown in when he bought the DV, and Zhang Tongtian had tossed it into his bag without a second thought. But now that he had a blank card in hand, Wei Zhao's mischievous streak surfaced again...
DV in hand, Wei Zhao went to the door of Zhang Tongtian's room and filmed the interior for a while. He could not bring himself to admire Zhang Tongtian's physique, though his lover was not bad at all — not that Wei Zhao had any interest in a woman like that.
After recording a stretch of video of Zhang Tongtian, Wei Zhao put the DV back in the bag exactly as he had found it, and vanished through the second-floor window...
"Done? That fast?" Sun Jingyan had not expected Wei Zhao to come back out so quickly. She was surprised.
Wei Zhao smiled wryly. A task with so little challenge — and this had already been slow! If he had not had nothing better to do and spent a while filming Zhang Tongtian with the DV, he would have been out long ago.
"Here." Wei Zhao took the memory card from his pocket and handed it to Sun Jingyan. "I played around with his DV while I was at it. Cute little gadget — I might buy one myself one of these days."
