Chapter 261 — Shen Yushu Hunts Ghosts, Part Two

The Blossom Guardian

All that had come before, she supposed she could let slide. But a zombie that came at her calling her own name—how could that fail to frighten Gu Mengyao?

"Huh?" Shen Yushu was rather puzzled. "Sister Yaoyao, is this zombie a thinking one? It even knows your name?"

"How should I know... Little Shu, I'm starting to get scared." Gu Mengyao truly found the whole business uncanny. How could a zombie know her name?

"Maybe the park staff recognized you as Uncle Chu's daughter and reprogrammed it on the spot to please you?" Shen Yushu thought it over; it was the only possibility she could come up with, and she could not guess at any other, since no name was required when they bought their tickets.

"Little Shu, I'm a bit scared. Let's just go, all right?" Gu Mengyao did not want to linger here any longer. Something about the place made her uneasy.

"It's fine, Sister Yaoyao. Let me take this zombie out for you!" Shen Yushu, however, charged cheerfully at the zombie. "La la la, I'm a little expert at catching ghosts..."

Shen Yushu rushed up to the zombie and stamped down hard on the instep of its foot. Zhang Yuzhou instantly let out a howl of agony and, up on his toes, hopped rapidly off to one side—far faster than before...

"Yay, Sister Yaoyao, look, I chased the zombie off!" Shen Yushu's face wore a look of triumph as she watched the zombie flee from her stomping. "The programming is really well done. Uncle Chu ought to give whoever made it a commendation—you step on the zombie and it runs!"

By now Gu Mengyao had been amused out of her fear, and she too believed Shen Yushu's earlier guess: someone had probably recognized her as the eldest daughter of the Chu family and deliberately altered the haunted house's computer program on the spot, all to win her favor.

After Shen Yushu's performance, Gu Mengyao was no longer so frightened. Watching the zombie run faster than a rabbit, she ordered Wei Zhao, "Wei Zhao, go catch that zombie and bring it back to me."

"Okay." Wei Zhao nodded.

Zhang Yuzhou's heart sank. Surely this little hellion had not dreamed up some fresh nasty trick to torment him? He was just about to quicken his hops and get clear of this cursed place when he felt a hand seize him by the collar. Then he went weightless, flew through the air, and landed hard at the feet of Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu.

"Ha, the zombie's back! Sister Yaoyao, let's keep playing with the zombie!" With that, Shen Yushu sprang straight up from the ground and landed with both feet on that zombie's belly—that is, on Zhang Yuzhou's belly—stomping and kicking away at it...

Zhang Yuzhou let out a scream of agony; his guts felt as if they were being stomped right out of him. The pain rolled his eyes back, and he passed out cold...

"Boring..." After a few more stomps, Shen Yushu found that the zombie had stopped wailing, and she hopped down, her interest gone. "This zombie's quality is terrible—broken after only two stomps. I wonder which company made it. Uncle Chu should go file a complaint against them!"

"Heh..." Gu Mengyao found it rather funny. That was a haunted-house prop; if you went and stomped on it, of course it would break!

Jin Maosheng looked at Zhang Yuzhou, stomped to a state somewhere between life and death, and a black line slid across his forehead. How was this girl called Shen Yushu fiercer than that bodyguard called Wei Zhao?

The plan had essentially been wrecked completely by Shen Yushu. Trying to scare Gu Mengyao again now would probably be pointless—she was not going to be afraid anymore!

Jin Maosheng was furious. Gu Mengyao was plainly terrified of ghosts; she had already been badly frightened when Xiao Ma came at her. If Zhang Yuzhou and he had coordinated in time, they would surely have scared her out of her wits!

In fact, he had seen how truly afraid Gu Mengyao was of such things. But Shen Yushu insisted on raising havoc the moment Xiao Ma appeared—not only kicking Xiao Ma so hard he would never father another child, but probably stomping Zhang Yuzhou's guts out of place as well. What kind of mess was this!

He tried to play a ghost and got stomped instead—was there any worse luck in all the world? Could it possibly get any worse?

The plan of frightening Gu Mengyao to death while disguised as a ghost was no longer feasible, and a faint regret crossed Jin Maosheng's face. But he was not one to keep at a thing that could not be done.

There was no longer any point in playing ghost here. Jin Maosheng decided to leave first and then take the long view, working out his next move. Gu Mengyao had to die today.

Jin Maosheng turned to go—and suddenly heard Shen Yushu's furious shout behind him: "Where do you think you're running, vampire!"

Jin Maosheng's vision went black and he nearly collapsed on the spot. Since when was a man not even allowed to flee? He meant to quicken his steps and pay no mind to that savage girl Shen Yushu, but then something struck the back of his skull with a thud, followed by a burst of searing pain, and Jin Maosheng toppled swaying to the ground...

"Yay! One hit, dead on target! This vampire can't take a beating at all!" Shen Yushu danced with delight. What she had thrown was one of the zombie's shoes...

"Little Shu, is that vampire bleeding at the back of the head?" Gu Mengyao asked, puzzled, looking at the fallen Jin Maosheng.

"They just made it realistic!" Shen Yushu had no idea either, but she did not care. "Who cares. Come on, Sister Yaoyao, let's go catch some more ghosts!"

"Oh, all right..." Gu Mengyao nodded and followed Shen Yushu onward...

Wei Zhao looked at the two things sprawled on the ground, somewhat speechless. Those two fools were simply too unlucky—Shen Yushu had made toys of them...

After that there were no more ghosts for Shen Yushu to hit. Even after they came out of the haunted house, she was still left wanting more. "Only three ghosts worth fighting—that's a bit too few. Sister Yaoyao, why don't you suggest to Uncle Chu that he add a few more? Next time we'll come play again!"

"If he adds more, won't you just break them again?" Gu Mengyao still had not realized that those three things had been real people, not props.

"Hee hee..." Shen Yushu stuck out her tongue. "I really regret not bringing a DV. Otherwise I'd have recorded it and let everyone see my heroic ghost-fighting form!"

The trip through the haunted house had taken about an hour, and counting the waiting beforehand, it was now close to noon.

"Sister Yaoyao, should we go get something to eat first, or go bungee jumping first?" Shen Yushu was a little hungry.

"Let's eat first. I'm a bit hungry too." A circuit through the haunted house had rather sapped Gu Mengyao's strength.

There were plenty of fast-food places in the park. Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu casually picked one that looked reasonably pleasant and found a table to sit down at.

"Wei Zhao, go buy the food." Gu Mengyao drew two hundred yuan from her purse and handed it to Wei Zhao.
