Chapter 264 — Puked All Over

The Blossom Guardian

To be honest, Shen Yushu did not like An Jianwen. There was always something gloomy about the man, and the fact that he was courting her best friend, Yaoyao, only made her think worse of him...

She and Yaoyao were going to marry the same man. If Yaoyao married An Jianwen, wouldn't that mean she would have to marry An Jianwen too? Shen Yushu had no desire whatsoever to marry An Jianwen, so it was better that he died — then Yaoyao could never marry a dead man.

Shen Yushu did not believe Yaoyao would be foolish enough to marry the likes of An Jianwen, but the two had grown up together, and An Jianwen was plainly interested in her. What if Uncle Chu got it into his head to marry Yaoyao off?

So when she saw that An Jianwen was about to die, Shen Yushu was overjoyed — though she innocently shifted the blame onto Su Taizao.

"Xiaoshu! Don't talk nonsense!" Gu Mengyao did not know whether to laugh or cry. Her best friend always managed to pull some ridiculous stunt at the most critical moments. Gu Mengyao knew exactly what Shen Yushu was thinking, and she herself did not like An Jianwen either; her feelings for him were purely those of a younger sister for an elder brother, with nothing else mixed in.

Still, it would not do to let An Jianwen die right in front of her. Quite apart from the ties between their families, even if Daddy did not blame her afterward, in all fairness, An Jianwen had been good to her when they were small, always indulging her spoiled temper. Gu Mengyao had no elder brother of her own, so she had come to regard Chen Yutian and An Jianwen as brothers...

"I'm not talking nonsense! Brother Jianwen was killed by Brother Taizao!" Shen Yushu said with the utmost seriousness. "I know — Brother Taizao must still be holding a grudge against Brother Jianwen, so he wanted him dead. Otherwise, Brother Shield was going to save him — why did he stop him?"

Shen Yushu was the sort who delighted in chaos. In truth, Wei Zhao had merely been reluctant to save him, and Su Taizao had only let slip one threatening remark — yet now it had become Su Taizao trying to kill An Jianwen.

"Xiaoshu, what nonsense are you talking about? How could I hold a grudge against Brother An?" Su Taizao knew Shen Yushu's temperament, and he knew this little madam was not someone he could afford to offend. Unhappy as he was, he could only defend himself.

"Because Brother An stole your girlfriend!" Shen Yushu said with a grin.

"..." Su Taizao's face darkened. She had struck right at what was on his mind, and his expression turned somewhat ugly. Still, he quickly regained control of his emotions. "That was back in our school days. I forgot all about it long ago — there's no question of any grudge..."

"Brother Taizao, Xiaoshu, stop talking about all that!" Gu Mengyao looked anxiously at An Jianwen, whose breathing was growing more and more labored, then turned to Wei Zhao. "Wei Zhao, please save him. Will you?"

"Is this part of my job?" Wei Zhao asked.

"Um..." Gu Mengyao hesitated. "Consider it a personal request from me..."

"All right, then!" Wei Zhao did not want to meddle, but since Gu Mengyao had asked him, he could hardly refuse.

If Gu Mengyao had said this was her job and that he had to do it, Wei Zhao might have resisted. But she had called it a personal request, and so there was no way he could refuse to save the man.

Somewhat unwillingly, Wei Zhao went over to An Jianwen, lifted his eyelids and took a look, then said to Su Taizao, "Hey, come over here and hold him up for me!"

"Okay..." Su Taizao had no idea what Wei Zhao did for a living, but since Wei Zhao had accurately named the cause of An Jianwen's attack, and Gu Mengyao was so insistent that he treat him, there was nothing to do now but pin their hopes on Wei Zhao.

More than ten minutes had already passed, and there was still no sound of an ambulance. It seemed Wei Zhao might be right — perhaps the ambulance would never arrive, and An Jianwen would kick the bucket first.

Su Taizao propped An Jianwen up, and Wei Zhao casually pressed several acupoints on his back. Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu stood in front of An Jianwen — Gu Mengyao's face tense, Shen Yushu's full of curiosity.

"Stand farther back!" Wei Zhao glanced up at Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu and said to them.

"Huh? Oh..." Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu had no idea what was going on, but since Wei Zhao had given the order, they both stepped aside.

"What about me?" Su Taizao did not know whether Wei Zhao wanted him to move away too.

"If you leave, won't he just fall to the ground?" Wei Zhao rolled his eyes. "You don't find him disgusting, do you?"

"No, of course not..." Su Taizao was taken aback, rather baffled; he thought Wei Zhao was asking whether he minded holding An Jianwen like this.

"Waaah—"

No sooner had Su Taizao finished speaking than An Jianwen's mouth flew open and everything he had eaten came spewing out, splattering everywhere. The tragedy was that Su Taizao, holding him up right in front of him, got sprayed all over — his head and face covered in An Jianwen's filth...

Su Taizao's expression froze. He wanted to let go and run, but he forced himself to endure it.

"Brother Su..." The effeminate-looking young man was clearly the type who served as Su Taizao's hanger-on. Seeing Su Taizao covered in vomit, he hurriedly found a tissue and handed it over...

Su Taizao was disgusted beyond words, but he waved his hand, because he had seen An Jianwen's eyeballs moving — which meant An Jianwen was about to wake up...

Naturally, Su Taizao could not simply wipe his face while An Jianwen was waking up. "Brother An, how are you feeling?"

"Taizao... I'm much better..." An Jianwen was very weak, but he could still get out a complete sentence.

Wei Zhao let go and stood up, not even glancing at An Jianwen. "He won't die. Once he gets his stomach pumped, he'll be about fine."

A complicated look flickered across An Jianwen's face. Wei Zhao had saved him — that much he knew clearly. Earlier he had only been in agony, not unconscious, and as Wei Zhao's rival in love, An Jianwen felt thoroughly uncomfortable.

If Wei Zhao had not saved him, he might be dead by now. Yet to bow his head to Wei Zhao and give up Gu Mengyao was something he could never, ever do. After hesitating for a long while, he finally forced out a few weak words to Wei Zhao: "Mr. Lin, thank you... What happened today, I will remember. I will repay it one day!"

"No need. I don't want anything from you." Wei Zhao waved his hand, utterly uninterested in any repayment from An Jianwen.

Wei Zhao had not saved him for the sake of repayment — only for Gu Mengyao's sake.
