Chapter 304 — This Kid Is a Bit Annoying

The Blossom Guardian

Still, if Wei Zhao really was as miraculous as Guan Xuemin claimed, it made sense for a divine physician to put on airs. Divine physicians were the object of everyone's flattery; it was only natural that he wouldn't warm to just anyone.

"Uncle, don't let him fool you — I know this kid, what divine physician?" Wu Chengtian flew into a rage seeing his uncle treat Wei Zhao with such respect. "He's that boyfriend of Sun Jingyan's, a little swindler!"

Wu Chengtian could hardly reconcile the title of divine physician with Wei Zhao. There was no way this kid could be any kind of miracle doctor. He had even probed Sun Jingyan obliquely about what Wei Zhao did for a living, and though she had tried her utmost to cover it up, he had still gleaned one piece of information: the kid certainly had no proper job and belonged to the ranks of the unemployed. Otherwise, given Sun Jingyan's personality, there was no way she wouldn't have bragged to him about her boyfriend's virtues.

If Wei Zhao really were some divine physician, Sun Jingyan would surely have used that to cut him down long ago — why would she hide it? This was precisely why Wu Chengtian dared to make his sudden attack: in his eyes, Wei Zhao could not possibly be a divine physician, and these people had to have been hoodwinked by him.

Liu Tianyi was stunned, Wu Huiru was stunned, and Guan Xuemin was even more stunned — all of them turned to look at Wei Zhao in astonishment.

"All right, I'm a swindler." To everyone's surprise, Wei Zhao admitted it with perfect composure. "Since someone doesn't wish to see me, I'll take my leave, Grandpa Guan. I'll come visit you another time."

With that, Wei Zhao rose to his feet and made to leave. What a joke — Wei Zhao owed the Liu family nothing. He had agreed to treat Old Master Liu purely out of respect for Guan Xuemin. Since someone in their household had called him a swindler, he couldn't be bothered to explain.

You call me a swindler? Then I can't be bothered to treat you. Go get your treatment wherever you like. We'll meet again someday.

"Ah." Guan Xuemin sighed. He was not in the least angered by Wei Zhao's behavior, but he shot Wu Chengtian a displeased glance. He had no idea what relation this child bore to Liu Tianyi, or why he had been brought here to make a spectacle of himself.

Now look what had happened — Wei Zhao was offended and refused to treat their old master. Let's see what they would do now.

Speaking of age, Wu Chengtian was actually several years older than Wei Zhao, yet in Guan Xuemin's eyes he had become an insensible child, while Wei Zhao was his friend despite the gap in years, his teacher and elder.

Wei Zhao strode toward the villa entrance without the slightest courtesy. Guan Xuemin did not stop him. Liu Tianyi, after a moment of shock, grew frantic — he had finally found Wei Zhao after so much effort; how could he simply let him walk away?

Casting aside all propriety, Liu Tianyi stepped forward and seized Wei Zhao. "Little Divine Physician, please wait!"

"Wait for what?" Wei Zhao curled his lip. "Someone says I'm a swindler."

Smack — Liu Tianyi slapped Wu Huiru across the face. Though he was Wu Chengtian's uncle by marriage, Wu Chengtian was ultimately of the Wu family, a rising star of the younger generation, and he could not discipline him directly. So he could only vent his fury on his wife, herself a Wu. For a man to discipline his own woman was the natural order of things; even if the Wu family learned of it, they would say nothing. Wu Huiru had married into the Liu family — she was a Liu now.

"Look at what your nephew is like! Fine work you've done!" Liu Tianyi roared in a fury. "An indulgent aunt ruins her nephew — you're the textbook case!"

Wu Huiru was stunned by Liu Tianyi's sudden slap. But once she came to her senses, she knew she truly should never have brought Wu Chengtian along. Offending the Little Divine Physician and costing Old Master Liu his treatment — if the Liu brothers ever found out, they would likely band together to divorce her, their eldest sister-in-law.

Smack — Wu Huiru slapped Wu Chengtian across the face and shouted, "What nonsense are you spouting? Say one more word and I'll call your father this instant and have you sent packing!"

Having been slapped by his aunt, Wu Chengtian burned with rage but dared not speak. Great clans had many rules; elders disciplining the younger generation was the natural order. So Wu Chengtian bowed his head, and all his resentment coalesced upon Wei Zhao. In his view, this was all Wei Zhao's doing.

"Little Divine Physician, you see..." Liu Tianyi had already made every gesture of contrition, and now he looked at Wei Zhao with something like pleading in his eyes. Yes, pleading — to cure his father's illness was his greatest wish.

"Oh, this kid is a bit annoying. I don't want to see him anymore," Wei Zhao said, glancing at Wu Chengtian.

"Huiru, why haven't you taken Chengtian out yet?" Liu Tianyi glared at Wu Huiru. How could she be so slow on the uptake? She had already seen that the Little Divine Physician disliked her nephew — why hadn't she made him vanish from the physician's sight at once?

"Oh... all right..." Wu Huiru nudged Wu Chengtian. "Xiaotian, let's go out first..."

Wu Chengtian gave a humph, unconvinced. He shot Wei Zhao a venomous look and mouthed the words "just you wait" before leaving Guan Xuemin's villa with Wu Huiru.

Wei Zhao did not even deign to look at Wu Chengtian directly. Let him say what he liked — plenty of people wanted to see Wei Zhao humiliated, yet so far not one had gotten their wish. Of course, the only exception was his own old man, who could put him in his place until he had no temper left.

"Little Divine Physician, that worthless boy has been driven out by me. Now — may we treat my father?" Liu Tianyi asked cautiously, watching Wei Zhao.

"Did I ever say I'd treat your father?" Wei Zhao glanced at Liu Tianyi. Had this fellow's head been caught in a door? When had he ever promised to treat his old man?

"This..." The expression on Liu Tianyi's face froze, and he cursed inwardly. True enough — Wei Zhao had never promised to treat his father; he had only said he disliked Wu Chengtian. "Little Divine Physician, I beg you to take a look at my father, would that be all right? My nephew gave offense earlier; I apologize to you on his behalf."

It was no easy thing to make Liu Tianyi lower himself so. But he had truly pinned his hopes on Wei Zhao. Having witnessed Wei Zhao's marvel with his own eyes that day, and given Guan Xuemin's high esteem for him, Liu Tianyi did not doubt for a moment that Wei Zhao possessed genuine skill.

For anyone else, even a divine physician, Liu Tianyi could never have adopted such a posture. But this youth whom even Doctor Guan Xuemin addressed with respect as an "expert" — Liu Tianyi did not dare underestimate him.

Especially given Wei Zhao's temper. Formidable figures all had their tempers, more or less; it was perfectly normal, and Liu Tianyi understood it. It only confirmed for him that Wei Zhao was a man of extraordinary ability.

"I've already finished looking." Wei Zhao gave an impatient snort. "No need to look again. Even if he's cured it's pointless — he'll only live another ten years or so before kicking the bucket. Isn't that just a waste of my time and energy?"
