Chapter 324 — The Cool Girl
"Good, then thanks!" Wei Zhao took the cap and put it straight on his head. "If anyone gives me trouble, can I say I'm one of York's boys?"
"Of course that's fine!" Hearing Wei Zhao call him a boss, York grinned so wide his mouth would not close. "Say whatever you like! York has a bit of face to his name in this little blue town."
Wei Zhao nodded and counted out four hundred euros, which he handed to York. Wei Zhao had only a few thousand euros in his pocket altogether, so York was not overly covetous; once he had the money, he simply let Wei Zhao get in the car. The key was already in the ignition — in a repair shop, no one worried about thieves.
Wei Zhao drove straight out of the shop. With this cap, a great many things became much easier for him; that York actually thought he had gotten the better of the bargain.
He had not gone far from the repair shop when he spotted a beautiful girl standing by the roadside, flagging down cars. Seeing Wei Zhao's car approach, the girl waved to him.
Of course, Wei Zhao had no real interest in pretty women who hitched rides and struck up conversations. In the North District, the women who came on to him numbered eighty if not a hundred, and what they did for a living was anyone's guess...
But what drew Wei Zhao's attention to this girl was that she was an Oriental. In this foreign land, seeing an Oriental girl felt especially warm and familiar.
On her cool little face she wore a pair of sunglasses; her all-black, tight-fitting outfit made her quite conspicuous. Yet Wei Zhao had a feeling he had seen her before, though the sunglasses hid most of her face.
Had it not been for that familiarity, Wei Zhao would not have stopped merely because the girl had an Oriental face.
"Is something the matter?" Wei Zhao, in his blue baseball cap and oversized sunglasses, looked much the same as this cool chick, and no one could make out his real face from the outside either.
"Hey, handsome, could I catch a ride with you?" The cool chick squeezed a smile onto her cool face.
"A ride? I don't even know where I'm going, so how would I take you?" As he spoke, Wei Zhao studied the girl. She looked very familiar, giving him a sense of déjà vu, yet for the moment he could not place her.
Over the years Wei Zhao had met far, far too many people; occasionally finding someone familiar was perfectly normal.
"That's just as well. Since you don't know where you're going, take me to the Kenhe Hotel." Without further argument, the cool chick pulled open the passenger door and got in.
"Heh..." Wei Zhao laughed. "I don't know where the Kenhe Hotel is either."
"Huh?" The cool chick was briefly taken aback. "Aren't you with the Water Blue Gang? You don't know where the Kenhe Hotel is?"
"Just joined. Is that a problem?" Wei Zhao shrugged.
"Oh... nothing. Drive, I'll give you directions." The cool chick's voice sounded faintly disappointed, yet still ice-cold.
Wei Zhao started the car. It crept forward, while from the corner of his eye he studied the beautiful cool chick beside him. "A tourist from out of town?"
But no sooner had he asked than Wei Zhao felt it impossible. How could an out-of-town tourist be so bold as to stand on the street flagging down rides? And especially once she knew he was a member of the Water Blue Gang, she still dared to get in? Was she not afraid of dying?
At that thought, Wei Zhao grew a little curious about the cool chick's identity. Had he seen her before? If he could take off her sunglasses, perhaps he would remember.
"Independent travel." The cool chick's answer surprised Wei Zhao somewhat. Independent travel?
"Independent travel, and you still know about the Water Blue Gang?" Wei Zhao shot back. The cool chick was obviously lying.
"I'm interested, that's all. I admire the strong!" The cool chick tried hard to make her smile charming and alluring, but the smile forced onto her cool little face was close to a sneer.
"..." Wei Zhao was somewhat speechless. Who lies like that? Still, he found it a little funny. "You admire the strong? So you came specially to wait outside the Water Blue Gang's door for a ride?"
"That's right. And didn't I run into you?" The cool chick smiled. "Tell me about your gang, would you? I want to hear it!"
"Sorry. Like I said, I just joined. Sorry to disappoint you." Wei Zhao grew more and more curious about this cool chick. She could not even lie properly. What on earth did she do?
"Then you should at least know who your gang's leader is, right? Is it Xiu Landun? I heard it was him!" asked the cool chick.
"Probably." Wei Zhao had looked up information about the Water Blue Gang online; the gang's leader did seem to be called that.
"Then do you know where he is?" The cool chick ignored Wei Zhao's "probably" and pressed on. "Is he also in this repair shop? Or in the Blue Castle?"
"In the repair shop, I suppose..." Wei Zhao answered offhandedly. This too was information he had gotten from that taxi driver's mouth.
"I see. So can you usually see him? Does he generally work in that building?" the cool chick asked, still curious.
"That I don't know." Wei Zhao was not really a member of the Water Blue Gang; how could he know so many things?
"How can you know nothing at all when asked!" The cool chick was a little angry. "Then can you take me to see him?"
"What do you want to see him for?" Wei Zhao found the cool chick even more peculiar. But just after he asked, Wei Zhao frowned, for he saw a black van following him far behind!
He had been so absorbed in talking with the cool chick, and he did not even know where this so-called Kenhe Hotel was, so he had been driving completely aimlessly. And in all that aimless driving, the van behind had actually stayed with him at a distance. If that was not following him, Wei Zhao would not believe it!
Someone from the Water Blue Gang? Wei Zhao frowned, thinking back over his earlier behavior. There had been nothing suspicious about it; he had not even revealed his purpose, and he had not dared to carry much cash on him. Why would the Water Blue Gang follow him?
And what puzzled Wei Zhao was that this van must have picked up his trail afterward; it had not come out of the Water Blue Gang's repair shop. When he had left the shop, Wei Zhao had deliberately checked behind him, and no one had been following him...
Could it be someone following the cool chick? At that thought, Wei Zhao found it quite possible. It was probably around the time he picked up the cool chick that the van behind had started tailing them!
Just who was this cool chick?
