Chapter 330 — Best Never to Meet Again

The Blossom Guardian

"Open your clothes? What are you thinking?" Wei Zhao glared at the dumbstruck cool girl and barked at her.

"Take... take off my clothes? Still?" Yang Qiqi was a little incoherent.

"Just open up your shoulder." Wei Zhao frowned. "Anyway, I saw what needed seeing last time. I've no interest in someone who wants to repay my kindness by killing me, day in and day out."

"As if I cared!" A flicker of annoyance surfaced on Yang Qiqi's cool little face, but she pulled down her collar all the same, baring a shoulder white as snow... On that shoulder was a bloody hole, glaringly conspicuous — the mark of a bullet that had punched through.

"Cut the chatter!" Wei Zhao glanced at the cool girl's shoulder, drew the dagger lightly across it, then gave a flick, and a bullet head flew out and landed on the car seat.

Wei Zhao fished the powdered herbs he had compounded himself out of his pocket, sprinkled them over the cool girl's wound, and said, "Don't put your clothes back on yet. It'll be fine in a moment."

"Oh..." Last time her wound had healed under Wei Zhao's hands with miraculous speed — by that very night it had scabbed over and grown new flesh — so Yang Qiqi had complete faith in his methods.

And there was one more crucial point: no scars left behind, which Yang Qiqi found simply wondrous. She was an assassin, and injuries were a commonplace. But she was a girl after all, and a girl always minds the scars on her skin; once Wei Zhao's herb powder went on, it seemed no scar would remain.

This herb powder was something Wei Zhao prepared for himself; every time he went out on a mission he carried some for emergencies. This mission, though, had held no real danger to speak of, and he had thought he wouldn't need it — in the end, it went to the cool girl.

His work on the wound at the cool girl's shoulder done, Wei Zhao turned to look at her calf. Yang Qiqi had already rolled up the pant leg over it.

Once again Wei Zhao made a neat cut and a flick; the bullet flew out, the herb powder went on fast, and the bleeding stopped.

"There, done. Don't do anything this dangerous again. You're not cut out to be an assassin." Wei Zhao spoke to the cool girl with weighty earnestness. "You may be cool, you may look like a born little killer, but assassins are usually not cool at all — people like me..."

"You..." Yang Qiqi's eyes went wide. Weren't assassins all cool...? Mom at home was cool too, cold and aloof, and only when she looked at Dad did a smile come onto her face...

"All right, I'll take you back. Kenhe Hotel, right? You give the directions." Wei Zhao gave Yang Qiqi no chance to keep talking; he turned and sat down in the driver's seat and started the car.

"Go straight from here... then turn right..." Yang Qiqi had no choice but to give Wei Zhao directions, her cool little face written all over with gloom... Was she really not cut out to be an assassin? It had to be this big liar talking nonsense... Right, he must be afraid she would grow stronger and come to kill him one day! Hmph, that had to be it. Just you wait, Wei Zhao — sooner or later I'll surpass you...

"At least you remember the roads. That much qualifies you as an assassin." Wei Zhao rarely praised the cool girl; Yang Qiqi was just about to cheer in delight when she heard him add: "But you'd be better suited to being a tour guide, or driving a taxi!"

"You..." Yang Qiqi was beside herself with anger. All that talk, and wasn't he simply saying she was an unqualified assassin? Hmph. As if he had never failed a mission?

"Hey, what were you doing there tonight? Have you never failed a mission?" Yang Qiqi asked, unconvinced.

"I went to bring someone out. You've already seen him." Wei Zhao did not hide it. "As for failure — sorry, I'd actually like to know what failure tastes like."

"Bragging!" A flicker of doubt crossed Yang Qiqi's face. "Hey, those herbs of yours work really well. Could you give me some?"

"Are you the one who tried to kill me today?" Wei Zhao looked at the cool girl with amusement, his tone teasing.

"Then can I buy it with money? How much is it? I'll pay you..." Wei Zhao's question left Yang Qiqi a little embarrassed.

"I compounded this myself. It's priceless." Wei Zhao glanced at the cool girl. "But for the sake of the ring on your hand, I'll give you the half bottle that's left."

Wei Zhao tossed the half bottle of herb powder from his pocket to the cool girl.

"Thank you..." Yang Qiqi was rather delighted. What Wei Zhao had said was true enough — this was a priceless treasure!

"Don't think having this medicine means you can get yourself hurt whenever you please. You'd best stay quietly at home. The assassin's trade doesn't suit you." Wei Zhao got out first and bought a women's casual outfit at a convenience store beside the hotel; when he came back he handed it to the cool girl...

Hearing Wei Zhao's jabs, Yang Qiqi had wanted to retort, but then he got out of the car and there was no one left to snap at. She had no idea what he was up to and was stewing in anger when she saw him already coming back.

"Put it on, then go up by yourself," Wei Zhao said.

Yang Qiqi had meant to give Wei Zhao a piece of her mind, but seeing how thoughtful he was — buying clothes for her, no less — wave after wave of warmth rose in her heart, and the words in her throat would not come out.

"I... I'll be going. Goodbye..." Yang Qiqi got out of the car and found that the wound on her leg no longer hurt. Wei Zhao's herb powder really was effective.

"Best never to meet again. If you're dying next time, I won't save you — nothing but trouble." Wei Zhao waved a hand in resignation, started the car, and drove off in a cloud of dust.

Yang Qiqi stamped her foot in fury. So full of himself... But the stamp pulled at her wound, and the pain nearly dragged a cry out of her. She did not dare stamp again, and hurried carefully back into the hotel...

What struck Yang Qiqi as rather odd was this: where had Grandpa Tombstone gone? Hadn't he said he would wait for her at the gate of the Water Blue Gang's headquarters? Then why, when she came out, had she not seen him? And more than that — Wei Zhao had hauled her into the car, so why had Grandpa Tombstone not tried to stop him?

In fact, Yang Qiqi had wronged Tombstone... Tombstone had indeed been waiting the whole time at the gate of the repair shop. Seeing that something was wrong, he was about to charge in, but then he saw Wei Zhao run out first with Yang Qiqi tucked under his arm...

Only after confirming that the man carrying the young miss away really was Wei Zhao did Tombstone go back to the hotel with an easy mind... After all, Wei Zhao was the organization leader's prized disciple. With him there, what did Tombstone have to worry about?

Only, the young miss seemed not to recognize him? Then again... the two of them had had contact only at the age of four or five, and had been parted by seven or eight; it was only natural that she would not remember. He himself had recognized the present-day Wei Zhao only after seeing the later files.
