Chapter 355 — Seeking an Opportunity
"That's fine too, then! Let's eat first!" An Jianwen supposed Wei Zhao really was hungry — just out of school, and no dinner yet — so letting him eat a while longer would do no harm.
But Wei Zhao's leisurely pace at the table drove An Jianwen up the wall. He had meant to film the fellow wolfing down his food and keep it as a joke, but the man ate with a surprising elegance — he put away a great deal, yet did it all so gracefully that An Jianwen had to give up the recording. What a waste of memory. And what if, later on, he couldn't get the footage of Wei Zhao with the girls?
When he had eaten his fill, Wei Zhao took a sip of the red wine in his glass and wiped his mouth. "Not bad. The chef at Starlight Splendor is something else — the food's excellent!"
"Naturally. Otherwise this place would never have been our old haunt," Su Taizao said smugly. "Back in the day, the Four Young Devils of Songshan gathered here all the time!"
"Brother Lin, now that we've eaten our fill, how about a little entertainment?" An Jianwen said, turning to Wei Zhao with a smile. He was afraid the boy would get up and walk off the moment he was full — then this dinner would have been money thrown away, and he had not squeezed a single word out of him yet.
"Oh, sure. But hold on — I'm going to the restroom." Wei Zhao turned to leave the private room, because the phone in his pocket had begun to buzz. It was probably Gu Mengyao or Shen Yushu, and he did not want to take the call in front of An Jianwen and Su Taizao.
"Isn't there a bathroom right here in the room?" Su Taizao pointed at a small door set into the wall.
"I'm not used to sitting toilets." Wei Zhao smiled. "I ate too much — my stomach's a little uneasy."
"Haha, all right then. Hurry back!" Su Taizao gave an understanding laugh. Some people were used to squat toilets and disliked sitting ones; there was nothing strange about that.
With Wei Zhao out at the bathroom, An Jianwen seized the chance to discuss their next move with Su Taizao. They meant to find him a girl and record the whole affair. Whether or not he was Gu Mengyao's boyfriend hardly mattered anymore — once the video reached Gu Pengzhan, he was finished.
Wei Zhao walked briskly toward the restroom and picked up the call. It was Shen Yushu, as expected.
"Brother Shield, I'm questioning you on Yaoyao's behalf!" Shen Yushu said, all solemnity. "Have you found yourself a girl?"
"Heh, not yet." Wei Zhao smiled. "Just finished eating."
"Yaoyao says you're not allowed to. If you do, don't bother coming back!" The words were barely out of Shen Yushu's mouth when Gu Mengyao's voice came from the other end: "Xiaoshu, what nonsense are you saying? I never said that!"
"Hee hee, Brother Shield, did you teach those two a lesson yet?" Shen Yushu asked, giggling.
"Haven't found an opening. We'll see in a bit." Wei Zhao could hardly just walk up and thrash them both — he needed a reason to start. He did not want to stir up two headaches over a single remark from Shen Yushu. Those two were plainly a cut above Zhong Yongliang and Bu Ruoming; the best outcome was to let them swallow a silent loss.
"Mm, then you have to teach them a lesson!" Shen Yushu said. "I'm hanging up now — get moving!"
Wei Zhao ended the call and stepped out of the restroom, thinking over his next move as he walked — when suddenly, from a private room he was passing, he heard a familiar name.
"Brother Cihua, how do these two strike you? They're top-tier goods at Starlight Splendor — the house's finest! Cost me a pretty penny to get them out here!" A fawning voice drifted from the room. Humble as the tone was, it was far too loud — plainly unguarded.
"Mm, not bad!" A man's laughter came from within. It was Li Cihua — the very man Wei Zhao had seen that day.
Wei Zhao stopped in his tracks. Li Cihua was dining here too? What a coincidence. He wondered what mood the man was in after two Yellow-rank experts had been taken out — and here he was, still in the humor for a "top girl."
"Twins, no less. What are your names?" Li Cihua was clearly taken with them; his voice came out thick with lechery.
"I'm Xuexue. She's Huahua..." the bolder of the twin sisters said softly.
"Xuehua — now that's a fine name!" Li Cihua roared with laughter. "Here, pour me a drink!"
A faint smile traced the corner of Wei Zhao's mouth. His mind made up, he strode quickly back to his own private room.
An Jianwen and Su Taizao had settled this between them beforehand: Wei Zhao had to be given a girl. Even if he wanted none, they would talk him into one — otherwise the whole evening was for nothing.
So they had decided that if Wei Zhao refused, they would ply him with drink until he was drunk and then force a girl on him. One way or another, he was not escaping tonight.
Wei Zhao pushed open the door and walked in. An Jianwen waved him over warmly. "Brother Lin, come, come! I've told the hotel manager to find us a few lively girls!"
"Great!" Wei Zhao put on a look of delight, wreathed in smiles. "Food and drink behind us — time for some girls!"
"Good, bold!" An Jianwen was delighted too. Earlier he had feared Wei Zhao would want none; now that the man had asked for it himself, everything was going his way. "The girls in this hotel are all top quality. I guarantee you'll enjoy yourself!"
"Mm, I've heard as much. But Brother An, I'm a man of rather refined taste — run-of-the-mill goods don't catch my eye." Wei Zhao wagged his head. "You know as well as I do, the girls I'm usually around are campus-belle caliber."
"I understand completely! Don't worry, we'll get you the best." An Jianwen thought: I'm not afraid of you being picky, only of you not wanting one. As long as you've a mind for it, I can always make the manager find someone to satisfy you.
"Good, then." Wei Zhao grinned and sat down, the picture of anticipation.
An Jianwen shot Su Taizao a look. Su Taizao left the room, and before long a middle-aged man of thirty-odd entered, followed by five pretty, sweet-faced girls.
"Mr. Yang, I'm honored that you'd bring them over yourself!" An Jianwen said with a smile.
This Mr. Yang was the hotel's general manager, answerable directly to the big boss; everything in the hotel was his say. Others might not know who An Jianwen and Su Taizao were, but he knew very well. A few years ago they had been the men of the hour in Songshan City. Even the hotel's big boss had to show them respect, let alone a hired manager like himself.
"It's I who am honored that Young Master An graces Starlight Splendor with his presence!" Mr. Yang said with a smile.
