Chapter 395 — Drank Until He Vomited Blood

The Blossom Guardian

"Yes — we drink however you say!" Su Taiwei nodded. Red wine? Whom did he have to fear?

"Good!" Wei Zhao set down the red wine in his hand, but then rose to his feet and walked over to the sterilizing cabinet at the side of the private room, from which he took out two large beer mugs, setting one before Su Taiwei and carrying the other back to his own seat.

Su Taiwei was a little baffled, unsure what Wei Zhao wanted with the mugs. Surely he did not mean to pour the wine out to drink it? You could drink red wine straight from the bottle!

While Su Taiwei, An Jianwen, and Su Taizao were still puzzling over it, Wei Zhao opened the bottle of red wine and poured every last drop of it into the large mug before him.

Su Taiwei was about to follow suit, but then saw Wei Zhao pick up a can of beer from the table, open it, and pour that into the mug as well.

The corner of Su Taiwei's mouth twitched. Red mixed with beer? Had it been ordinary beer, that would have been one thing, but with this high-proof stuff added in... Still, it beat drinking baijiu straight!

Su Taiwei gritted his teeth; he could just about accept it. So he followed Wei Zhao's example, pouring red wine and beer into his own mug. But no sooner had he finished than he wanted to speak — and saw that Wei Zhao was moving again!

This time Wei Zhao opened a bottle of baijiu and poured that straight into the mug too!

"Huh?!" Su Taiwei was dumbstruck. Baijiu as well? Red wine, beer, baijiu, all mixed together — would that not kill a man? On an ordinary day, a small cup or two would have been no problem; in fact, Su Taiwei often showed off his special skill to the liquor merchants, drinking red, white, and yellow together, leaving those men gasping in admiration! Whenever that happened, Su Taiwei would bask in it — proud, pleased, formidable! He took pride and glory in his special skill!

But now, before this great mug of beer, Su Taiwei's special skill had become a joke! A small cup was one thing, but a mug this size — was that not simply courting death?

Wei Zhao paid no mind to what Su Taiwei was thinking. He picked up the mug before him and raised it toward Su Taiwei: "Come, let us continue!"

"This..." Su Taiwei was so full of regret he could have burst. Earlier he had thought Wei Zhao meant only to drink red wine, and that was why he had uttered his bold words — drink however you like. But now Wei Zhao wanted this mixed concoction, and even if Su Taiwei was unwilling, there was nothing he could do about it.

And An Jianwen and Su Taizao were equally helpless; they could not help Su Taiwei in the least, and so could only silently support him in spirit.

Wei Zhao drained the mug of mixed liquor in one breath, then looked at Su Taiwei with a smile. There was no way out for Su Taiwei; he could only steel himself, lift the mug, and gulp the whole thing down.

Once he had finished, Su Taiwei's face at once turned red and white in patches, a sight more splendid than splendid. One hand clutched his stomach, and beads of sweat the size of beans sprang out on his forehead!

Su Taiwei felt he was about to die; his stomach seemed on the verge of exploding, churning up towering waves, making him feel that he would collapse at any moment! But he could not lose face — absolutely not!

"Good, truly Brother Wei — stronger than ordinary men!" Wei Zhao nodded in praise.

"Heh heh..." Su Taiwei wanted to weep but had no tears. Faced with Wei Zhao's praise, he could only answer with a helpless smile. At this moment, he would far rather have been a loser than a "Brother Wei"...

"Let us continue — this is how drinking gets interesting!" As he spoke, Wei Zhao fetched several more bottles of red wine, setting a few before Su Taiwei and a few before himself.

Wei Zhao mixed himself another mug of the concoction. There was no way out for Su Taiwei; he could only steel himself and follow along.

Wei Zhao raised his mug and poured it down his throat faster than he would drink plain water.

Su Taiwei drew a deep breath and began pouring it down as well. But halfway through, he finally could not hold on! His stomach no longer felt like his own, writhing violently, and with a "pff" the wine he had drunk all came spewing out, splattering across the floor, mixed with great streaks of fresh blood...

"Cough — cough —" Su Taiwei coughed loudly, and with every cough he brought up a great quantity of fresh blood.

"Taiwei, what is wrong?" Su Taizao was startled and hurried over to support Su Taiwei, patting his back gently, but the coughing would not stop, and Su Taiwei was still coughing up mouthfuls of blood.

"Taizao, take Taiwei to the hospital!" An Jianwen frowned. He too could see that Su Taiwei had reached his limit today; those last two mugs of mixed liquor had been forced down by sheer will. Ordinary baijiu would have been one thing, but a mixture — how could nothing come of it?

"It is nothing, seems like a stomach bleed..." At last Su Taiwei stopped coughing. Earlier the mixture of liquor and blood had choked into his windpipe, which was why he could not stop coughing; now that he could speak, he waved a hand: "I can go to the hospital myself. Brother Jianwen, cousin, I will leave this place to you!"

"Let us take you!" Su Taizao was deeply worried about Su Taiwei's condition.

"No. If I admit defeat now, all my effort so far will have been wasted!" Su Taiwei shook his head; he was unwilling to concede just like that.

"All right then, be careful on your own!" An Jianwen sighed. "Call me when you get to the hospital!"

"I know, Brother An..." Su Taiwei endured the pain, limped out of the private room, and hurried down the stairs...

"Brother Lin, you see Taiwei has drunk himself into a stomach bleed. Should we switch to a more civilized way of drinking?" When Su Taizao spoke, a thick hatred showed in his eyes! Su Taiwei was his own cousin; to have him drunk into the hospital — how could he not be furious?

An Jianwen's face was dark as well, without the slightest trace of a smile; presumably he had come to hate Wei Zhao in his heart too.

"A stomach bleed? I would say it is a perforated stomach!" Wei Zhao shook his head. "Do not let him die, now!"

"What? A perforated stomach?" Su Taizao was startled. "Why did you not say so earlier?"

"You never asked me!" Wei Zhao shrugged. "Otherwise I could have given him a massage, and it might well have stopped the bleeding."

Only then did An Jianwen and Su Taizao remember that Wei Zhao seemed to know medicine, and not a little of it! Last time An Jianwen had suffered food poisoning, it was Wei Zhao who had stepped in to save him.

An Jianwen had never regarded Wei Zhao as a savior but as an enemy, so it had never once occurred to him to think along those lines. Only upon hearing Wei Zhao say it did he secretly curse his own regret!
