Chapter 401 — The Non-Mainstream Girl
"Changyi, what do you mean he can be saved? What miracle medicine did you find?" Lai Changtian knitted his brows. "You didn't run into some wandering charlatan who sold you a strength pill, did you?"
"It's no strength pill, and no charlatan either!" Fatty Lai shook his head. "It's genuinely good stuff! Brother, go pour some warm water so I can get Dad to take it!"
"Stop this nonsense! What if you kill Dad with it? How can you bring just anything in here?" Lai Changtian snorted coldly and reached out to grab what Lai Changyi was holding.
The doctor saw this was a quarrel between two brothers and had no intention of getting mixed up in it, and turned to leave. But Lai Changtian clearly had no intention of letting him go, pointing at him instead. "The doctor is right here. Ask him if that kind of back-alley wonder pill can be taken lightly?"
"Well..." The doctor broke out in a cold sweat, finding Lai Changtian's question rather hard to answer. How could he speak rashly about such a thing? Quack pills certainly could not be eaten at random, but what if this fatty had begged some genuine cure from a famous physician?
That left him in a bind. If he said no, and the medicine later proved truly effective, would he not bear the blame? And if he said yes, what if someone died from taking it?
So after a long hesitation, the doctor said, "Everything carries risk. As for miracle cures, they are not all frauds. Some do work..."
Such evasive words that offended neither side annoyed Lai Changtian. Damn it, that red envelope was wasted on this old fox!
"Enough, get out. There is nothing for you here!" Lai Changtian waved his hand and drove the doctor out.
The doctor felt as if granted a great pardon and hurried out of the ward. A war between two brothers was best kept out of.
"What are you plotting, bringing in this so-called pill? Do you want Dad to die the moment he takes it?" Lai Changtian glared, sneering. "Don't think I don't know what you're thinking. You just want Dad to die quickly so you can fight me for control of the industrial park, right? Let me tell you, that's impossible! I have poured my heart into the industrial park. I'm five years older than you, and I've toiled there for twenty years since I was twenty! I won't hand it over! Stop dreaming. Even if Dad wakes up, you'll get thirty percent of the shares at most. Real estate and trade are yours. You'd better stay out of the industrial park!"
"I want Dad dead? Hah, don't force me to say certain things! I heard everything you said to the doctor at the door. Don't you just want Dad to wake up and write a will for you?" Fatty Lai sneered as well. "Since you've torn off all pretense, don't blame me for speaking bluntly. I'll put my words here. I'm giving Dad this elixir purely to heal him. As for your industrial park, I won't touch it. If Dad leaves no will, I want nothing! Just as you said, give me thirty percent of the shares, and I'll split off with the real estate and trading companies!"
"Oh?" Lai Changtian froze for a moment, then a flash of delight crossed his eyes. "Fine. Empty words prove nothing. Put it in writing! Once I write it out and you sign, you can feed Dad whatever you like. I won't interfere!"
"It's a deal!" A bleak, cold light flashed in Fatty Lai's eyes. His elder brother was truly heartless, caring nothing for their father's life or death, thinking only of seizing control of the industrial park.
Lai Changtian already had the outline of a contract in mind, so he quickly drafted one. For a veteran of the business world like him, knocking out a tight contract in short order was no difficult task.
Fatty Lai was no fool either. He read through the contract his brother had drawn up, found nothing wrong in it, and signed it directly.
"Fine, do whatever you want!" Lai Changtian put away the contract with satisfaction, his face full of joy.
Fatty Lai paid no more mind to whether his brother was cold-blooded. He hurried into the inner ward, carefully placed the Life-Prolonging Detox Pill into his father's mouth, then dissolved it with a little hot water and helped him swallow it down.
Lai Changtian stood to one side, secretly recording the scene with his phone, sneering inwardly. If Dad really suffered some mishap, this video would be enough to prove Fatty Lai was the killer. Even if not intentional, it would be manslaughter, and then forget fighting over the inheritance. He would be lucky not to rot in prison!
It had to be said that Lai Changtian was a sinister and ruthless man. Even after signing the contract he was still uneasy, afraid Fatty Lai would go back on it, so he kept one more card up his sleeve.
After giving Old Master Lai the Life-Prolonging Detox Pill, Fatty Lai stayed by his side waiting for the result. Yet the old man seemed to show no reaction at all, while Lai Changtian watched Fatty Lai's every move with a cold smile.
Could some dog-shit pill from goodness knew where wake a man up? What an international joke. Lai Changtian did not believe such ignorant nonsense existed in this world. Since the old man had fallen into a coma, goodness knew how much money had been spent without any effect, and Lai Changtian naturally did not expect any miracle to happen now.
"If you want to keep watch here, then stay. I'm leaving!" Lai Changtian had already gotten what he wanted. Whether the old man woke or not no longer mattered. If his guess was right, this wretched pill would do only harm and no good. Perhaps tomorrow would bring news of the old man's passing.
On Monday, at the gate of Songshan No.1 High School, a neat column of people stood in formation, with Zhong Yongliang and Zou Ruoming prominently among them! By the look of it, they were welcoming some important figure, but who could command Zhong Yongliang and Zou Ruoming to line up in welcome?
A closer look would reveal that, apart from Zhong Yongliang and Zou Ruoming, everyone in the line was a school troublemaker. Though none were as famous as the four campus bullies, each was a noted figure in his own right, like Yu Dafa, the senior-year boss whom Kang Xiaobo had once knocked down, who also stood in the ranks.
An Audi slowly pulled up at the school gate. The driver was a young girl, her delicate little face hidden behind sunglasses, her hair swept to one side, dressed in full offbeat style.
"Welcome back, Sister Feng!" Apart from Zhong Yongliang and Zou Ruoming, the other students bowed in unison at the sight of the girl in the Audi.
Hearing their address, the offbeat girl frowned at once. "What Sister Feng? That sounds so awkward. From now on call me the Universe's Top Invincible Beautiful Girl, Boss Xiaoxiao!"
