Chapter 453 — The Odd Feng Xiaoxiao
"Nothing... so long as you're all right." Wei Zhao nodded, depressed. How was this girl even more formidable than Shen Yushu? Why did he keep running into people like this? He had thought the days of flying bullets and falling shells were terrifying, never imagining that ordinary life held its own terrifying things.
"Here, for you—it's really good. I had a bottle earlier and liked it, so I bought one for you!" Feng Xiaoxiao set the drink down in front of Wei Zhao.
"Thanks..." Two words squeezed themselves helplessly out of Wei Zhao's mouth. What else could he say? If Feng Xiaoxiao had come at him and cursed him out the moment she arrived, he would have found it normal—at worst he would have ignored her and been done with it. But when someone speaks to you so sweetly, you can hardly pretend you didn't hear.
Wei Zhao even wondered whether the girl who had been blown up yesterday was this Feng Xiaoxiao's twin sister—the violent one blown back home, and today a gentle sister swapped in.
Wei Zhao really was a little thirsty. He picked up the drink, took a look at the mouth of the bottle—unopened. He cracked it open and took a sip; nothing wrong. Puzzled, he drank a few more mouthfuls...
"You're welcome!" Feng Xiaoxiao shook her head. "If you like it, I'll buy you one every day!"
"Pff—" Wei Zhao was in the middle of drinking when he heard this, and the mouthful shot straight out of him, spattering all over Kang **'s back...
Kang ** had been pricking up his ears to listen to the conversation behind him between Feng Xiaoxiao and Wei Zhao, secretly envious of Wei Zhao—and then he got sprayed. His face crumpled as he turned around: "Boss, I'm already envious enough of you... and you spit on me too?"
"Sorry..." Wei Zhao broke into a sweat, then looked at Feng Xiaoxiao oddly. "Feng Xiaoxiao, be straight with me—what exactly do you mean by all this?"
"Mean by what?" Feng Xiaoxiao widened her eyes innocently at Wei Zhao, as though she had no idea what he was talking about.
"Were you the one whose backside got blown up by firecrackers yesterday?" Wei Zhao asked.
"Oh, don't mention it—it's so embarrassing..." A blush rose on Feng Xiaoxiao's pretty face; she pursed her lips and spoke in a small voice.
"..." Wei Zhao felt faint. "Did the explosion scramble your brains?"
"You're the one whose brains are scrambled. The me right now—this is the real me..." Feng Xiaoxiao scolded coquettishly. "Didn't I want you to teach me drag racing before? I felt too that my approach was a little off, so I changed."
"Teaching you to drag race is out of the question. Drag racing is illegal," Wei Zhao said.
"That's fine. You can teach me racing and drifting instead," Feng Xiaoxiao said earnestly.
"I don't have time." Wei Zhao frowned.
"It's all right, then I just won't learn." Feng Xiaoxiao smiled without a care.
"?" Wei Zhao stared at Feng Xiaoxiao in disbelief. What was going on? What on earth had happened? When she had left at noon, that icy face of hers had still carried a look of anger—so how, now...?
Evening self-study was physics. The teacher came in before long, and Wei Zhao could not very well ask more questions. He turned away and leafed through his physics book, ignoring Feng Xiaoxiao.
A faint smile slid across the corner of Feng Xiaoxiao's mouth. She wanted to clench her fists and cheer! So Wei Zhao could not stand up to softness, only to hardness. As long as she kept at it, she need not fear failing to capture Wei Zhao's heart—and then she would dump him. Hmph, let him learn what it meant to offend her!
For the whole class, Feng Xiaoxiao was lost in fantasies about her future plans... while Wei Zhao was thoroughly depressed, puzzling over why Feng Xiaoxiao had turned into this.
From his past experience, Feng Xiaoxiao had to be brewing some grand scheme. The first time she had given him a drink, she had had no good intentions—she had wanted him to go to the toilet so she could sneak candid photos.
This time, she surely would not stoop to using the same crude trick again, so there should be nothing wrong with this bottle of drink. It was simply a means by which Feng Xiaoxiao was currying favor with him.
Zhong Yongliang was delighted just then. Through one of his father's business partners, he had already made contact with a high-end seaside bathing resort and could book out the *** area exclusively. Then he would be able to claim credit and show off in front of Gu Mengyao.
He had already spoken with the homeroom teacher, Teacher Liu, and planned to announce this good news the moment school let out.
At long last evening self-study ended. Teacher Liu walked in, and Zhong Yongliang, mightily pleased with himself, strode to the front of the classroom.
"Everyone quiet down—don't rush to pack your bags and leave. I have some good news to share with you all." Teacher Liu was also very supportive of Zhong Yongliang sponsoring the class's spring outing. There was not much time left in senior year, and the time they all had to spend together playing was even scarcer. The tree-planting activity had left many of them lingering with reluctance to leave, and now Zhong Yongliang had taken the initiative to sponsor another spring outing for the class, which had raised Teacher Liu's impression of this student considerably—the boy was not some rich brat who understood nothing at all.
At the mention of good news, the previously noisy classroom fell silent at once. Everyone stopped what they were doing and looked up at Teacher Liu.
"This weekend, our class will organize a spring outing, and the destination is the Natural Sunshine Seaside Bathing Resort in Binfen City!" The instant Teacher Liu's words landed, cheers burst out from the classroom!
Going to a seaside bathing resort was naturally far more fun than planting trees, and it set the classmates, pent up for so long, instantly ablaze with excitement.
"This activity has been organized and sponsored by our classmate Zhong Yongliang. You needn't spend a single cent of your own—just buy yourselves some snacks!" Teacher Liu said. "Let's give Zhong Yongliang a warm round of applause in thanks for his contribution to our class!"
Teacher Liu had originally planned to hold a class meeting and give Zhong Yongliang a good dressing-down. The boy was far too reckless, setting off fireworks in a tree—was he not afraid of starting a fire? But now there really was nothing more to be said.
"Woohoo!" When they heard it was free and would not cost them anything, even more students were beside themselves with joy. After all, not many classmates came from extremely wealthy families, and most had only limited pocket money.
"All right, that's all I had to say. Once Zhong Yongliang has worked out the detailed spring outing plan, I'll tell everyone about it," Teacher Liu said. "You're all dismissed!"
Those classmates who had previously harbored some hostility toward Zhong Yongliang now looked at him with far friendlier eyes; many of them greeted him on their way out.
Zhong Yongliang was over the moon. Had he known it would turn out this way, he would have organized the spring outing long ago. Not only could he establish his authority, he could also win the favor of Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu—why wouldn't he?
When Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu walked out of the classroom, Zhong Yongliang hurried after them at a jog. "Yaoyao, Xiaoshu, are you happy with this activity of mine?"
"Not bad. Sister Yaoyao says it's all right," Shen Yushu said to Zhong Yongliang, glancing at Gu Mengyao.
