Chapter 566 — Closing the Deal

The Blossom Guardian

"It wasn't him, was it? He wouldn't do something like that, would he?" Gu Mengyao was a little doubtful. It was too vicious, after all—deep down, she did not believe Wei Zhao was that kind of ruthless man.

"Heh heh heh heh. Who cares whether it was him or not? Either way, Zhong Yongliang is finished this time. He definitely won't be bothering Sister Yaoyao again!" Shen Yushu, however, did not care in the least. In her view, Wei Zhao ought to be ruthless with his enemies—that was the only way to drive them off for good.

"That's not necessarily true. I've heard you can live without a kidney, can't you?" Gu Mengyao frowned.

"I don't know about that either, but I read online that if you lose a kidney, you can't—well, you know. I don't know if it's true or not?" Shen Yushu blinked and gave a wicked grin.

"Shu, you are not allowed to use such filthy words!" Gu Mengyao's face flushed red as she scolded her.

"I didn't! I was just stating a fact! It wasn't me who said it, it was the internet." Shen Yushu looked aggrieved.

"Anyway, you are not allowed to say it from now on. A girl who talks so filthily will never find a husband!" Gu Mengyao said sternly.

"Oh, whatever. With Sister Yaoyao to cover for me, it's buy one get one free—even if I'm a little filthy, someone will still want me." Shen Yushu was unconcerned. "Don't they say all men like that?"

Gu Mengyao ignored her.

"Classmate Zhong Yongliang is currently out of danger and receiving treatment in the hospital! I would like to organize his classmates to visit him. Participation is voluntary—those who don't wish to go may stay in the classroom and study on their own!" Teacher Liu continued, "I've already arranged for a bus. It will be here any moment. Those who want to go, get ready now and come downstairs with me."

Truth be told, Zhong Yongliang was not especially popular. He belonged to the bad-student crowd in class, and many of the diligent students looked down on him. But last time, Zhong Yongliang had organized everyone for a trip to the seaside, which had improved his standing considerably. Everyone had benefited from his kindness, so now that something had happened to him, it would not do to stay away.

And so, one after another, everyone set down their books and rose to go downstairs...

After Zhong Fabai left, Li Ci hua paused for a moment, then dialed An Jianwen's number.

"Young Master An, do you know Zhong Fabai?" Li Ci hua asked.

"Zhong Fabai? Never heard of him. A mahjong player?" An Jianwen had just eliminated a romantic rival and was celebrating in his hotel room.

"No, he's a somebody. He has some influence in Songshan City. His son is called Zhong Yongliang..." Li Ci hua said.

"Zhong Yongliang?" Before Li Ci hua could finish, An Jianwen cut him off. "Brother Ci hua, you're not here to call me to account, are you? Well, I can tell you this much—I'm the one who cut out Zhong Yongliang's kidney."

An Jianwen's tone caught Li Ci hua off guard. It seemed the grudge between Zhong Yongliang and An Jianwen ran deep.

"Young Master An, that's not what I meant." Li Ci hua had no wish to offend An Jianwen either. "Young Master An, it's just that Zhong Fabai came to see me a moment ago. He wants some explanation for what happened to his son..."

"Oh? Then what does Brother Ci hua mean by all this?" An Jianwen asked mildly.

"It's nothing to me, really. It's just that Zhong Fabai is working for Young Master Bing now, so when something like this happens, Young Master Bing will have to look into it..." Li Ci hua was in a bind. He did not want to offend An Jianwen—the An family had the Fire Wolf Gang behind them, after all. But Zhong Fabai's matter could not go unanswered either.

"Oh, then let Young Master Bing come to me. I've been wanting to meet him anyway." An Jianwen spoke with complete indifference. So what if he'd cut it out? Even if Zhong Yongliang was one of Young Master Bing's dogs, he'd done it. What of it? Would Young Master Bing make an enemy of the An family over this?

After all, the Fire Wolf Gang's power was no weaker than that of the family behind Young Master Bing's patron. If it really came to a confrontation, no one could say who would win.

"Young Master An, you've misunderstood!" Li Ci hua was vexed. What kind of mess was this? Who knew how Zhong Yongliang had managed to provoke An Jianwen? And here he was, playing peacemaker. But there was no easy way to mediate—he and An Jianwen had been cooperating well, and there was no need to ruin their relationship over a Zhong Yongliang. He could only say, "Young Master An, what exactly is the grudge between you and Zhong Yongliang? Why go this far?"

"I don't mind telling you," An Jianwen said. He had never intended to hide it anyway, and he recounted what he had heard on the recording from Wei Zhao. "He kidnapped my childhood sweetheart. You think I'd let him off?"

"That's true enough. Zhong Yongliang did go too far." Li Ci hua sighed. If it really was as An Jianwen said, then teaching Zhong Yongliang a lesson was not unjustified. But now that the conflict had arisen, it would be hard to smooth over. "We still have to give Zhong Fabai some explanation. I say we hand over Wei Zhao! That kid was clearly trying to stir up trouble, using your hand to get rid of Zhong Yongliang. He's Gu Mengyao's close guard—naturally he wouldn't allow a time bomb like Zhong Yongliang to stay by her side."

"I know that. But Wei Zhao is my informant. Handing him over like that—it wouldn't be right, would it?" An Jianwen said mildly.

"Our business—I'll give up another ten percent. You give Zhong Fabai an explanation?" Li Ci hua gritted his teeth. Zhong Fabai was still useful for now; he could not afford to alienate him just yet. So Li Ci hua had no choice but to resort to this.

"Deal. Have Zhong Fabai call me." An Jianwen laughed inwardly. What did he care whether Wei Zhao lived or died? He was just toying with Li Ci hua. Ever since he'd learned that Wei Zhao was merely a close guard, An Jianwen had never truly taken him seriously—he'd only wanted to use him to glean information about Gu Mengyao.

Before long, Zhong Fabai's call came through. He cut straight to the point: "Young Master An, may I ask how my son offended you? That you should be so ruthless?"

It seemed Li Ci hua had not said much—he had only told Zhong Fabai that An Jianwen was the one responsible and let him ask about the reason himself. And Zhong Fabai had naturally heard of An Jianwen's name: once one of the Four Young Masters of Songshan, now the man in charge of the An family's affairs in Songshan City, with the Fire Wolf Gang standing behind him.

So Zhong Fabai did not dare shout or make a scene. He suppressed his anger and asked An Jianwen the reason for his actions.

An Jianwen had already struck a deal with Li Ci hua, so he was in no hurry now. He laid out the reasons he had acted against Zhong Yongliang. Who was An Jianwen? One of the Four Young Masters of Songshan—a man of considerable standing! His name carried far more weight than Zhong Fabai's.

So when An Jianwen finished speaking, Zhong Fabai truly had no temper left to show. His own son had kidnapped another man's childhood sweetheart and spouted all those vicious threats. Anyone would be furious—let alone one of the Four Young Masters of Songshan.
