Chapter 1576 — The Collapsed Old Man

The Blossom Guardian

"There's no need for a meal. I still have exams this afternoon, and there won't be enough time." Wei Zhao smiled and declined. "But do be careful when you head to the exam venue this afternoon. I'm afraid that Young Master You isn't done yet."

"By the way... just now... why didn't they actually make a move?" Wang Xinyan finally couldn't hold back and asked.

"Heh... Their strongest fighter is only at the mid Xuan-stage. Not as strong as me, so naturally they didn't dare to act." Wei Zhao shrugged as he explained.

"Ah! So that's how it is..." Wang Xinyan suddenly understood, but then she jumped again, looking at Wei Zhao somewhat oddly. "Then... what's your level?"

Because Wang Xinyan knew that Uncle Pi, the Xiao family's strongest fighter, was only an early Xuan-stage expert, and Wu Chengtian was merely an early Huang-stage expert. And yet this Young Master You's bodyguard was actually a mid Xuan-stage expert. So what level was Wei Zhao at?

Didn't that mean Wei Zhao was stronger than the Xiao family and Wu Chengtian? Didn't that mean Wei Zhao was stronger than the experts of those great families? How was that possible?

"Just a little bit stronger than them," Wei Zhao said with a smile. He and Wang Xinyan weren't particularly close, so naturally he wouldn't reveal his true strength. Saying this much already meant he considered her a good friend.

"Oh..." Wang Xinyan didn't press further. "Then let's do it after the exams. I'll treat everyone to something. Well... I should get going?"

Wei Zhao nodded and waved goodbye to her before getting into his car. Wang Xinyan, meanwhile, headed toward a red sports car not far from the parking lot -- the very same car she drove in the commercial district of Songshan City.

"Brother Arrow, you've been attracting flowers and butterflies again. I have to keep an eye on you for Xiaoxiao," Shen Yushu said once she was in the car.

"Hehe, just an ordinary friend." Wei Zhao then told everyone about Wang Xinyan's situation, including her relationship with the Xiao family and her engagement to the Kang family.

"No way! She's actually related to that old hag's family?" Shen Yushu's eyes went wide with surprise.

"Yes, but they're not the same kind of people," Wei Zhao said.

"So she's a pitiful person too... So the person she saw last time was Feng Xiaoxiao. No wonder she looked at me so strangely -- she must have thought I was the other woman..." Tang Yun said with a wry smile.

"Haha!" Hearing Tang Yun's words, Shen Yushu laughed too. "I thought the same thing. She definitely got the wrong idea..."

During the afternoon exam, Young Master You did not come to cause trouble again. Wei Zhao's worry turned out to be unfounded. It seemed that before Young Master You had figured out Wei Zhao's background, he wouldn't act rashly.

Inside the exam venue, Wei Zhao and Wang Xinyan exchanged a smile and a glance, but said nothing further to each other.

What a strange person, Wang Xinyan thought, looking at Wei Zhao and shaking her head involuntarily.

Wei Zhao and the others turned toward the sound and saw an old man lying on a concrete slab by the roadside, while a boy who looked like a fellow exam candidate crouched anxiously beside him, clutching the old man's hand...

"Could you help me call an ambulance... I don't have a phone..." the boy pleaded with passersby.

But most of the people here were exam candidates and the parents who had come to see them off. Who had the time or inclination to bother with this boy? Especially at such a tense moment, when the less trouble one got into, the better.

Wei Zhao took one glance. The old man had likely suffered heatstroke. Wei Zhao hesitated about whether to step in. Over the past few months, the iron heart he had once possessed had softened considerably. Just as he was deliberating, Tang Yun tugged at his sleeve. "Could you help him?"

"All right." Tang Yun's words decided it for Wei Zhao. He strode over to the old man and said to the boy, "Don't move him around. Let me take a look."

"Ah... okay. Are you a doctor?" The boy had been in a state of panic, and suddenly someone had come to help. He felt as though he had found his pillar of support, and nodded repeatedly.

"Yes," Wei Zhao replied calmly, then took the old man's wrist and began to examine his pulse.

"Hmm?" The old man's pulse gave Wei Zhao quite a surprise. Most of the meridians within the old man's body were blocked! Judging by appearances, this old man should have been a cripple -- there was no way he could walk. And there was no wheelchair anywhere nearby...

"What's wrong? Doctor, what's wrong with my grandfather?" The boy saw Wei Zhao frown and was startled.

"Nothing serious, just heatstroke brought on by a weak constitution." One glance at the old man's condition told Wei Zhao it was heatstroke caused by physical frailty. As for the strange phenomenon in the old man's meridians, Wei Zhao paid it no mind. Though he could repair and clear another person's meridians, he had no particular connection to this old man, and he had no intention of revealing his abilities so casually to a stranger.

Having spoken, Wei Zhao took out the silver needles he carried with him and swiftly inserted them into several acupoints on the old man's body. With some simple massage work added, the old man soon regained consciousness -- in no more than five minutes.

"There." Wei Zhao swiftly withdrew the silver needles and rose to his feet.

"Ah, Grandpa's awake! Thank you, thank you!" The boy saw his grandfather stir back to consciousness and was overcome with gratitude toward Wei Zhao.

"You're welcome." With that, Wei Zhao turned to leave.

"Wait... young man..." The old man reached out a hand and called after him.

"Is there something else?" Wei Zhao turned his head and asked.

"Young man, you have a fine medical touch," the old man said.

"Heh... I know a little," Wei Zhao said with a nod.

"Young man, would you like to learn more advanced medical knowledge?" the old man asked suddenly.

"More advanced medical knowledge?" Wei Zhao was taken aback for a moment. "Where would I learn?"

"With me," the old man said.

"I'm sorry, I still have to sit my exam." Wei Zhao smiled and shook his head, not taking the old man's words to heart. The man had collapsed from heatstroke himself -- how could Wei Zhao believe he understood medicine? Even if he did, Wei Zhao already had Old Master Wei, that divine physician, right here; there was no need for him to learn from anyone else.

"Ah..." The old man looked disappointed. With his grandson's support, he stood up. "Then go take your exam first. I'll wait for you here!"
