Chapter 5062 — Return to the East Sea
"Uh..." Fei Yangsheng choked for a moment, then said weakly, "Senior, I don't know much about her. I've only heard that her talent is extraordinary, that she's one of the sect's disciples most likely to break through to the Golden Core stage. Beyond that, I know nothing."
Saying this made him somewhat uneasy—not because he was lying to or concealing anything from Wei Zhao, but because the last time, he had harbored improper designs on Leng Leng. If Wei Zhao were to recall that now and settle old scores, he would be dead for certain.
In truth, Wei Zhao had no such intention at all. If he truly meant to kill Fei Yangsheng, he would do so regardless of whether he remembered the earlier matter; and now that he had said he would give the man a chance, he would not go back on his word.
After hearing these answers, Wei Zhao fell silent at once. These four questions were what he most wished to know now. Though Fei Yangsheng's answers were hardly comprehensive or detailed, they still provided him with a good deal of information, giving him a rough picture of the Heavenly Dao-stage experts of the Primordial Little Jianghu—at least he was no longer completely in the dark as before.
Only with such knowledge in hand could one remain unruffled by alarms. For Wei Zhao, the mortal world held far too many ties. His previous fretting over gains and losses had been only human nature: because he was vulnerable, he had classified every unknown factor as a threat. Had this happened on Cloud Terrace Island, Wei Zhao would never have troubled himself so.
Wei Zhao's sudden silence terrified Fei Yangsheng, still kneeling on the ground. He thought he must have said something inadequate and provoked the other's killing intent, and hurriedly begged for mercy: "Spare me, Senior! Every word this humble one spoke is the truth, without the slightest concealment! Be magnanimous and overlook this humble one's faults—spare my worthless life..."
Wei Zhao was caught between laughter and tears. To save his skin, the man had struck a posture of submission so textbook-perfect that, given how sensibly he had played along, Wei Zhao could hardly bring himself to kill him.
"I said it before. So long as you answer my questions properly, I'll spare your life. Seeing that you've been reasonably sensible, I won't kill you today," Wei Zhao said flatly.
"Thank you, Senior! Thank you, Senior!" Fei Yangsheng was overjoyed. Ignoring his knees, which had gone numb from kneeling, he forced himself up and turned to flee—he dared not stay in this place a moment longer.
But before he could get out the door, Wei Zhao suddenly said, "Hold on. How am I supposed to find you later?"
"Huh? You'll still be looking for me?" Fei Yangsheng nearly burst into tears. He could not flee this fiend fast enough; he had barely salvaged his little life. Why would the man still want to find him? Did this mean he intended to keep dealing with him in the future?
"What? You're not willing?" Wei Zhao's face turned cold at once.
Sensing the icy killing intent emanating from the other, Fei Yangsheng promptly burst into frightened tears and hurriedly said, "No, no—it's an honor for Senior to seek me out! How could I be unwilling? If Senior wishes to find me, just go to Shennongjia. That's the rallying point for us trial disciples."
"Is that so?" Wei Zhao glanced at him with a look of half-belief.
"Absolutely true! My little life is in Senior's hands—I might lie to anyone, but never to Senior," Fei Yangsheng said hastily. That much was indeed no lie. What his true intentions were, however, was another matter: the Shennongjia rallying point was garrisoned by experts from the great sects, and if Wei Zhao dared go there, he would die without a doubt—no chance of survival whatsoever.
"Good, then." Wei Zhao nodded, and without betraying anything in his expression, left a divine-sense marker on the man. A weakling like Fei Yangsheng could not possibly detect it.
He had his reasons for doing so. Though these people of the Primordial Little Jianghu had no original intention of violating the mortal world's rules, their very existence was ultimately a hidden danger to it. Should some unforeseen turn occur, who could say whether they might become adversaries of the mortal world's cultivators?
So, to be safe, Wei Zhao needed to plant an informant among them, the better to keep track of their movements.
Had Leng Leng been here, he would not have needed this extra measure. But now he did not know where she had gone, so he could only work through the coward Fei Yangsheng—summon the wretch when trouble arose, and a little intimidation would reveal what these Primordial Little Jianghu people were planning.
Seeing Wei Zhao slowly withdraw his killing intent, Fei Yangsheng finally breathed a sigh of relief and hastily turned to leave again. But before he had taken two steps, Wei Zhao suddenly called him back: "Hold on."
Thud! Fei Yangsheng's knees gave way and he dropped to the ground on the spot. A full expert of the mid Foundation Establishment stage, reduced by Wei Zhao to streaming tears, he looked up pitifully and said, "I've really told you everything, Senior—spare me..."
Wei Zhao was speechless. Looking at the man's expression, he could not help feeling a twinge of guilt. He pursed his lips toward the two corpses on the ground and said, "These two are an eyesore here. Take them with you."
After all, this was the mortal world. If two corpses were simply left lying about, it would stir up enormous trouble; and their identities were unknown—should some twist of fate blow the matter out of proportion, that would be a real headache.
"Yes, yes." Only then did Fei Yangsheng relax. Unlike Wei Zhao, he had no scruples about the mortal world's laws. He hoisted the two corpses onto his shoulders and turned to go, terrified that if he lingered, Wei Zhao would call him back again. He had suffered enough fright today; a few more scares and he would surely give himself a heart attack.
After Fei Yangsheng left, Wei Zhao rose and departed the room shortly after. Counting the time, a full month had passed since his primordial spirit had been projected here. Though the whole process had been rather circuitous, he had more or less achieved his set goal. With his current strength at the peak of the late Foundation Establishment stage, he could handle most matters; it was time to return to East Sea City.
Glancing back at the room, Wei Zhao could not help sighing with emotion. Now he was finally about to reunite with Qiu Lingshan and the others, yet in his heart he could not quite let go of Leng Leng. Though his original pursuit of her might have been impure, after all they had been through together, there was no doubt the two of them had come together.
In Wei Zhao's heart, Leng Leng was no different from Gu Mengyao and the others—all of them women he would cherish and treat with sincerity in the days to come.
Before leaving, Wei Zhao could not help heaving a sigh. If only he had known this piece of charcoal would prove so useful; otherwise, he could have brought Leng Leng back to East Sea City with him today.
As Wei Zhao set out for East Sea City, Leng Leng, in fact, had not gone far. She had been cultivating all along in the concealed mountain forests nearby. All she had to do this half month was digest the potency of the medicine; once she absorbed the power of the fifth-grade Great Return Pill and the fourth-grade Great Return Pill, it would be more than enough to heal her slight injuries. (To be continued.)
