Chapter 1607 — The Remains of the Sages

The Herdsman of the Wasteland · Page 3 of 4

Moreover, this woman must have been one who attained the dao in the prehistoric age, suppressed until her universe was destroyed and a new universe born, and yet she had survived intact — a thing most strange.

"The dao markings that make up these chains — they are Miluo Palace dao markings!"

Shen Mu's heart leaped. He looked at the markings flying across the heavens — and what made up those markings were Hongmeng runes!

"That is to say, it was the master of Miluo Palace who sank this woman into the great abyss of Guixu, and fearing she would not die, brought to bear a power beyond reckoning to suppress her here, hoping to grind her away!"

Fear rose in his heart: "Who is she? Why could even the master of Miluo Palace not kill her, and was forced to imprison her instead?"

The woman caught her breath; pulled at by the chains, she gave a cold laugh and reached out to grip the root and stem of the twin lotuses, trying to tear them down and use them against the chains!

Her dao arts and divine powers were extraordinary — she belonged to the line of the great dao of Guixu, and yet she was more profound and unfathomable than the Empress and her sister!

The twin lotuses, seized in her hand and set in motion, unleashed a power that flooded the heavens, devouring all, churning the whole sea of chaos!

"The Guixu Goddess of a prehistoric universe!"

Shen Mu was startled, and the Empress and Lady Yuanmu said with one voice, "It is us — us of a prehistoric universe!"

"No! She is more perfect than we are!"

"She has fused perfectly!"

Both women were overjoyed. Clearly the woman chained and suppressed here was extraordinary indeed: she had solved the flaw that came of the Guixu sisters' fusion — far more reliable than Shen Mu's dao of reincarnation!

Shen Mu's heart hammered. Then he thought: if this woman was more reliable than he, and could solve the Empress and her sister's problem, could he still keep his life?

The woman brandished the twin lotuses in battle, doing all she could against the chains, but soon she was attacking little and defending much, and she fell to the worse.

The master of Miluo Palace was dead, but the chains he left behind still held supreme power; his Miluo Palace dao markings were wondrous beyond fathoming, and even Guixu could not devour and refine them.

Suddenly the woman spoke in the tongue of Guixu, crying aloud, "Will you keep on watching? Are you not going to lend a hand?"

Her Highness the Empress was taken aback; Shen Mu clenched his fists, his palms all cold sweat.

Whoosh—

The woman churned the sea of chaos, and a lotus leaf, swept up by her stirring, drifted against its will toward them. "Get on that leaf of chaos," the woman called, "and come here quickly!"

Shen Mu hesitated a moment; the Empress had already leaped onto the leaf.

He gritted his teeth and jumped on after her.

The master of Miluo Palace must have had his reasons for suppressing this prehistoric Guixu Goddess. If the Empress truly set this woman free, then for Jingping, and for the whole universe, it would likely be a catastrophe beyond salvation.

Whatever else, he had to stop the Empress from doing such a thing!

The lotus leaf drifted toward the woman and soon came alongside the leaf she stood on. Strand after strand of white hair flew, coiling about the two of them, and the next moment Shen Mu and the Empress had come to rest at the woman's feet.

The woman's struggle against the chains grew harder still; suddenly countless dao markings stamped themselves upon her in rapid succession, locking away all her divine powers at once. Against her will she released the twin lotuses and was dragged into the sea of chaos.

Her Highness the Empress was utterly dismayed. Lady Yuanmu, sprawled upon the lotus leaf, called out, "Senior, how are we to save you?"

Fierceness came into Shen Mu's eyes; he meant to draw his sword and cut off her neck, sending her head down into the sea of chaos.
