Shen Yushu had spent ages contorting her eyes and had finally managed several highly difficult expressions, hoping to annoy Wei Zhao, only to find that Brother Arrow had actually shut his eyes. She instantly flared with anger, and in her excitement her face cramped up and would not go back to normal.
"Xiao Shu, what are you doing? What is wrong with your face?" Gu Mengyao noticed that something was off with Shen Yushu.
"N-nothing... my tooth hurts," Shen Yushu said through held breath. She certainly could not tell Gu Mengyao the truth, or Gu Mengyao would laugh her head off.
"So it is a toothache. I saw you squinting away there and thought something had gone wrong with your eyes," Wei Zhao remarked coolly, getting his petty revenge for being treated as a free chef.
Ha! Far from getting angry, Shen Yushu laughed instead. So this fellow had not really kept his eyes shut after all, and he had seen her funny faces. Then her cramp had not been suffered in vain.
At that thought, Shen Yushu cheered up again.
"Xiao Shu, your tooth hurts and you are still laughing?" Gu Mengyao was baffled, and seeing Shen Yushu baring her teeth and grinning made it all the stranger.
"It is nothing, nothing," Shen Yushu said, waving her hand.
Just then the car stopped in a small alley near the school, so Gu Mengyao asked no more. The two girls got out one after the other, while Wei Zhao stayed seated in the car. As they saw it, he had to keep his distance to avoid suspicion.
"Mr. Lin, let me drive you to the hospital to change your dressing?" Uncle Qing said as he started the car again.
"Change the dressing?" Wei Zhao only then remembered that the wound on his leg had not yet healed. That little bit of pain meant nothing to him, and if no one had mentioned it he would have forgotten it entirely. "All right."
Wei Zhao thought to himself that he would have to stop by a pharmacy later and mix up his wound medicine first, since ordinary drugs healed cuts far too slowly. While he was at it, he would also mix up the medicine for Yang Huaijun.
The car arrived at Songjiang City First People's Hospital. Uncle Qing parked in the lot, and Wei Zhao went in alone to have his dressing changed.
When he reached the surgical treatment room, Wei Zhao did not see Guan Xin, the pretty nurse from yesterday. On duty today was a middle-aged woman, and Wei Zhao felt instantly relieved. Luckily she was not here, or it would have been another embarrassing scene.
"Hello, I am here to have my dressing changed," Wei Zhao said, handing the treatment slip to the middle-aged nurse.
"Oh, sit over there," the middle-aged nurse said. She glanced at the slip Wei Zhao handed her, quickly got the fresh medicine ready, and said to him, "Take off your pants."
"Uh... should we not close the door?" Wei Zhao asked awkwardly when he saw that the treatment room door was still open.
"A big young man like you, what are you afraid of? Hurry up," the middle-aged nurse said gruffly. "This is a hospital. Who would care to look at your backside?"
"Uh... all right..." Wei Zhao was speechless. Thinking of the shy Guan Xin from yesterday, this middle-aged nurse had perhaps once been a green young girl too, but the years had turned her into a tough auntie. He wondered whether Guan Xin would turn out the same way years from now... At the thought, Wei Zhao felt both chilled and regretful.
To be honest, his first impression of Guan Xin had been quite good.
Still, he had to admit that this older nurse was far more skillful with her hands than Guan Xin. In no time at all she had finished changing Wei Zhao's dressing, tossed the used cotton into the trash bin, and said, "All done, young man. You are healing nicely. Come back once more tomorrow and you will be fine."
"Uh... all right... thank you..." Wei Zhao thanked her and hurried out of the surgical treatment room, thinking to himself that it was lucky no one had passed by.
