Chapter 206 — Why Didn't You Say So?

"Mm, fine." Wei Zhao braced both hands and heaved, prying the railing just wide enough for Xiaoshu to slip out. But as Shen Yushu turned sideways, that certain place of hers still grazed intimately against Wei Zhao, mortifying her so deeply that she blushed and ran back upstairs. Wei Zhao simply shook his head and chuckled to himself. Gu Mengyao was delighted, happier than she had been in a long while. In the old days it had always been just the two of them, her and Xiaoshu; harmonious as it was, something was always missing. Since Wei Zhao came, her life seemed to have changed. From despising him at the outset to depending on him a little now, Gu Mengyao felt that she, too, had changed.
"Wei Zhao... you... whatever you have done, you will deal with the consequences yourself." At the thought of the intimate contact between Wei Zhao and Xiaoshu, Gu Mengyao felt a pang of loss, and of fury as well. How could he be so lecherous? First Song Lingshan, then that girl who had come crashing into him (Wang Xinyan), then a little delinquent girl, and lately he was entangled with Tang Yun too. Even Xiaoshu had not been spared. Would she be next? Hmph, she would never let him take advantage of her. And yet, even as she thought this, Gu Mengyao could not help but be jealous of them all. What right did they have? He was her Arrow Bro — no one was allowed to steal him. Such is a woman's heart: vague and beyond all telling. A woman's heart is a needle at the bottom of the sea.
"Huh... what did I do? Aren't I still Xiaoshu's savior?" Wei Zhao felt terribly wronged — no good deed goes unpunished. But he had only himself to blame; why had he gone and helped those two? And it had been such a simple matter; so why had he... Wei Zhao stopped brooding and hurried back to his own room.
Gu Mengyao likewise returned to Shen Yushu's room. Closing the door, she said with a sly half-smile, "Xiaoshu, you lost this round. A bet's a bet — off you go and confess to Wei Zhao."
"I'm not going. That was an accident. And besides... didn't he already get to take advantage of me just now?" Shen Yushu was rather embarrassed and simply went back on their agreement.
"Oh, is that so? Then you should go all the more — let him take responsibility." Gu Mengyao kept coaxing Xiaoshu a step further.
"We haven't even done that yet. What is there for him to take responsibility for?" Xiaoshu blurted out without thinking.
"Then you mean to say you'd like to do it with him? I think you've fallen for him — haven't you?" Gu Mengyao, now sure of her ground, gave no quarter, pressing Xiaoshu until she was at a loss for words.
"I... I'm just like you. Didn't we agree to be together for life? Whoever you marry, I'll marry the same." Shen Yushu promptly shoved the problem of Wei Zhao back onto Gu Mengyao.
"Ah!! You actually believed that? I'm not marrying Wei Zhao — he's my minion." Gu Mengyao's words were utterly at odds with her heart; even she herself would not have believed she disliked him.
"Then fine. I'll stick with you no matter what, hee hee." Xiaoshu was rather pleased with herself, finally free of the question of responsibility.
"Hmph, I know exactly what you're thinking. Not happening — you're confessing today." Gu Mengyao had not expected that girl Shen Yushu to be this clever, kicking the problem right back at her.
"Sister Yao Yao, why don't we go together? Zhong Yongliang is pursuing you, so having a shield would come in handy too." Shen Yushu went on tempting Gu Mengyao.
"That... I'll have to think about it." Gu Mengyao grew ill at ease, her fingers restlessly kneading her clothes. She wanted to go "confess" to Wei Zhao, but she did not dare.
"Come on, let's go — the two of us together." Shen Yushu gave Gu Mengyao no time to think, and tugging Sister Yao Yao by the hand, made straight for Wei Zhao's room.
