At this point, Zhong Yongliang put on a frightened look as he spoke.
"Spit it out if you have something to say, and cut the useless talk. If this has nothing to do with you, I will naturally not make trouble for you." Wei Zhao frowned.
"All right. At the time I just said it offhand, that Tang Yun has gone with that kid Wei Zhao, that you have no chance left, that you might as well have forced yourself on her back then." Zhong Yongliang said this much, and seeing no change in Wei Zhao's expression, went on, "What I never expected was that those words would give that kid Zou Ruoming an idea. He actually said it was not too late to force himself on her even now, that once he had Tang Yun, he would not fear she would refuse to follow him. At the time I was afraid of Zou Ruoming's power, so I could only keep nodding along. But after I went back, the more I thought about it, the more wrong it felt. This would make me harbor a criminal. If I knew and failed to report it, once you learned the truth, Chief Wei Zhao, you would surely never spare me, so I..."
"When is he planning to carry out this plan?" Wei Zhao cut Zhong Yongliang off and seized him by the collar. Wei Zhao had long guessed that Zhong Yongliang was up to no good, but he had not expected him to be so vicious as to egg Zou Ruoming on to move against Tang Yun.
Wei Zhao did not for a moment believe things were as simple as Zhong Yongliang claimed. This scheme was in all likelihood dreamed up by that little bastard Zhong Yongliang himself. So why seek him out now to tell him all this, treating him to dinner and stalling for time...
This is bad. Wei Zhao's heart clenched as a sense of foreboding rose within him. If things were truly as Zhong Yongliang said, then Zou Ruoming's move against Tang Yun could well be tonight.
"He... he..." Zhong Yongliang had not expected Wei Zhao to grab him by the neck over a single wrong word.
"Is it tonight?" Wei Zhao's hand closed around Zhong Yongliang's throat.
"Cough, cough... Chief Wei Zhao, let go first..." Zhong Yongliang could hardly breathe. He coughed twice, his face flushed red from holding his breath.
"Where are they?" Wei Zhao gave a cold laugh, though his grip tightened a little more. If he had not yet learned Tang Yun's whereabouts, Wei Zhao would have liked to strangle Zhong Yongliang outright. "Zhong Yongliang, I advise you to stop pretending. Did you think I believed that clumsy act of yours?"
"Damn!" Zhong Yongliang gasped for air. "Damn it, Wei Zhao, you were playing me?"
Since Wei Zhao had seen through him, Zhong Yongliang simply dropped the act. There was no point in keeping it up, though he rather regretted having played the lackey for nothing all that time.
"Where is Tang Yun?" Wei Zhao loosened his grip on Zhong Yongliang slightly. He knew that if he kept squeezing, Zhong Yongliang would pass out from lack of oxygen even if he did not die.
"Ha, she has probably already been taken by Zou Ruoming." Zhong Yongliang sneered. Now that the mask was off, there was no need to keep pretending. "So? You want to hit me? Think carefully, though. If you hit me, you will never see Tang Yun again. Cackle... Go on, hit me. Hit me if you dare..."
Zhong Yongliang looked as if he had Wei Zhao completely in his grasp, convinced that Wei Zhao would not dare do anything to him now.
"Thud!"
"Ow..." Zhong Yongliang howled, clutching the bridge of his nose as blood spurted from it under Wei Zhao's blow. "You, you, you dare hit me? Believe it or not, I will not tell you where Tang Yun is!"
"Thud!"
"Ah..." Zhong Yongliang stared at Wei Zhao in disbelief. "You... you do not want to know where Tang Yun is?"
"Thud!"
If Wei Zhao had wanted to beat Zhong Yongliang to death, he would already be dead. Wei Zhao was only teaching him a lesson, and said flatly, "You will talk. Otherwise you would never have sought me out and brought me here on your own."
