"A few thieves? A man and a woman?" Bu Ruoming was startled too.
"One man and two women!" Xie Fenpian said.
"One man, two women?" Bu Ruoming was slightly taken aback. He exchanged a glance with Bu Tiandi, and the two of them breathed a sigh of relief at the same time. "One man and two women—then it should be fine. If it were Wei Zhao, he'd be with Tang Yun. There's no way it would be one man and two women, three people!"
"Damn it, scared me to death!" Bu Tiandi patted his chest. "Another day of this and I'll have scared myself into a nervous breakdown."
"Isn't that the truth—jumping at shadows all day long!" No sooner had Bu Ruoming finished than he found himself rather interested in the women Xie Fenpian had mentioned. But in front of his father he didn't dare say so outright, and could only steal glances at Bu Tiandi.
"Come on, let's head over together!" Bu Tiandi knew perfectly well what sort of goods his son was—a lecher, just like himself—so rather than the pot calling the kettle black, he simply sent father and son into battle side by side.
"Heh heh, then let's go have ourselves a look!" Bu Ruoming was overjoyed, though on the surface he put on a fine show of trembling deference.
Xie Fenpian thought to himself that he had lost a golden chance to get close to those fair creatures, but no matter—being able to curry favor with the boss and the young master was worth more than anything. Were women hard to find? With money a man could find plenty. Keep the boss and his son happy, and wouldn't the money come rolling in?
The reason Wei Zhao had followed the security captain to the security office was that he didn't want to make a move inside the market—too many people there, and he wouldn't be able to fight freely. Once they were inside the security office, these people could only accept their fate.
"Bang!" The moment they stepped into the security office, the security captain slammed the armored door shut, then pointed at Wei Zhao with savage insolence. "You lot, come clean right now—how did you steal the goods? Otherwise we send you straight to the police station, and once you're there it won't be nearly so simple!"
"Ha. So you're in it with him?" Wei Zhao did not treat his savage manner as anything worth a thought. Looking at the security captain, he asked mildly.
"What nonsense are you spouting? He's the victim—of course we have to stand up for justice on his behalf!" The security captain's expression shifted, but he kept right on quibbling.
"Ha, stand up for justice? Who do you think you are, Ultraman? The leader of the martial arts alliance?" Wei Zhao smiled. "Let's cut the act. What do you want?"
By now Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu had both understood that this security captain was in league with the thief. But with Wei Zhao there, they naturally had nothing to fear. Both Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu had gone through life and death alongside Wei Zhao; beside bank robbers and sharks, a little danger like this was nothing at all.
They were even a touch excited, wanting to see Wei Zhao cut loose and fight.
"Once you're through this door, don't count on leaving. Since you won't be honest, we'll beat you until you are!" The security captain waved a hand at the other guards. "Take the women into the back room. In a little while Boss Xie will come search them. This kid won't behave—beat him for me first!"
"Yes, sir!" Several guards nodded, rubbing their fists and flexing their palms.
"Is beating people here not against the law?" Wei Zhao glanced at the security captain.
"In here, I am the law!" The security captain jabbed a finger at Wei Zhao with tremendous swagger. "I don't mind telling you—there are no cameras here. Once you walk out, nobody can prove we beat you. We can say just as well that you fell down on your own!"
"Ha... is that so? That suits me just fine." Wei Zhao nodded with a smile.
"What's that supposed to mean? Lost your mind?" The security captain blinked, not quite grasping his meaning.
