Gu Mengyao frowned. This was the thing that annoyed her most: Zhong Yongliang was forever cooking up some absurd, harebrained notion and then actually carrying it out—writing a love letter in his own blood, for instance—which left her utterly speechless. How could anyone possibly be even more of a fool than Xiaoshu?
And what made it worse was that his foolishness was genuine, while Xiaoshu's was only an act.
As Feng Xiaoxiao walked past Wei Zhao, she put on an air of carelessness, hooked a string of firecrackers that had been lying on the ground straight onto Wei Zhao's trousers, and then, without pausing for even a moment, turned and went off to busy herself with something else.
"Heh..." Wei Zhao smiled faintly. So this was the little scheme the girl had in mind—to blow him up with firecrackers? She was dreaming. But Wei Zhao did not expose her at once; he pretended not to have noticed, his gaze still resting on Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu over there.
Feng Xiaoxiao's heart was pounding violently as well. Wei Zhao was no ordinary man—what if he discovered her? The playground was crowded and noisy now, true, but Wei Zhao's alertness was not to be underestimated either.
Yet after she had hung the firecrackers behind Wei Zhao's backside, she saw no particular reaction from him, and at once she let out a breath of relief, deciding that Wei Zhao must have fixed all his attention on Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu and was overlooking everything else around him.
Zhong Yongliang was about to light the fireworks in the tree, and Feng Xiaoxiao, too, quietly took out a lighter and hid herself not far behind Wei Zhao. In a moment, the instant Zhong Yongliang set the fireworks alight, she would swiftly light the firecrackers on Wei Zhao...
That way, it would look as though Zhong Yongliang's fireworks had been so violent that they had blasted half a string of firecrackers over to this side; if Wei Zhao wanted to blame anyone, he could only blame heaven and his own ill luck in standing where he stood—there would be no one else to blame.
"Whoosh—" Zhong Yongliang lit the fireworks. These, too, were a set he had had specially manufactured by the factory; once they soared into the air, they would assemble into the five large words "Yao Yao, I Love You." Simple as they appeared, this display had cost Zhong Yongliang a great deal of money to have custom-made.
At the same moment, Feng Xiaoxiao used her lighter to set off the firecrackers behind Wei Zhao, then turned round in triumph, meaning to slip farther away...
"Heh—" Wei Zhao smiled faintly. Quick as a flash, he untied the firecrackers from himself and hung them behind Feng Xiaoxiao, then tied a dead knot in them.
The tragedy was that Feng Xiaoxiao, intent only on getting farther away, never noticed at all that Wei Zhao had hung firecrackers behind her. Only after running a few steps and feeling as though something were dragging along behind her, striking her legs again and again, did she turn her head in some perplexity—and at the sight she let out a shriek: "Ah—"
Feng Xiaoxiao was about to go mad! Weren't the firecrackers hung on Wei Zhao? How had they wound up on her? She looked up toward Wei Zhao, only to see him nodding at her with a wicked grin.
Feng Xiaoxiao wanted to untie the firecrackers hanging behind her, but then she discovered that this villain Wei Zhao had actually tied a dead knot for her that simply could not be undone!
The fuse was about to burn down. Feng Xiaoxiao was truly panicking now—surely she could not pull down her trousers in front of the whole school? How utterly humiliating that would be!
While Feng Xiaoxiao stood there hesitating, the fuse burned out and the firecrackers began to explode with a crackling roar. Scared out of her wits, she ran at a fast clip toward Zhong Yongliang, shouting as she ran: "Help! Water—is there any water?"
