Chapter 532 — You're Not Sick

The other was the Yu family. They watched the lively bidding in the auction hall with cold eyes. Everyone who closed a deal today would surely regret it tomorrow, wouldn't they? Passing over goods in hand to buy a presale item instead! Yet the Yu family could not say a word about it.
The most baffled of all were Fatty Lai and Guan Xuemin. Fatty Lai had never expected Divine Doctor Kang to come up with a wound medicine of his own, and it left him thoroughly depressed: "Chief, could the Kang family have seen through our plan? Why else would they put on an auction like this? Did someone from the Yu family leak our information?"
"No." Wei Zhao smiled faintly. "I know which formula they're holding."
"Oh? Chief, you're saying you know their formula?" Fatty Lai was startled. "So our formula is different from theirs?"
"Different. Theirs is very expensive — nothing but rare and precious ingredients. Mine is very ordinary." Wei Zhao smiled. "The reason they want that thousand-year snow lotus must be to make this so-called beauty-and-skin-nourishing wound medicine! The thousand-year snow lotus is one indispensable ingredient in it!"
"So that's it. No wonder they'd fight for it even at a hundred million!" Fatty Lai nodded in sudden understanding. "Had I known, I'd have bid a little higher just now and played them to death!"
"Haven't we already given them a hard enough time?" Wei Zhao looked at the wooden box in his hand with amusement and smiled faintly. "Twenty million. Worth it."
Judging by its appearance, the box was indeed made of ten-thousand-year spring wood, no doubt about it. But what exactly ten-thousand-year spring wood was good for, and how it was used, Wei Zhao did not know. He had only seen a description of it in an ancient medical text, and at the time he had merely skimmed it without looking closely, so he had retained very little.
"Quick, praise me! I'm the one who played them!" Feng Xiaoxiao suddenly cut in.
"Ha, when we get back I'll give you a deluxe edition of our wound medicine — about the same as his." Wei Zhao felt he ought to show some appreciation; after all, Feng Xiaoxiao had played a large part in securing the ten-thousand-year spring wood box.
"Boring. I don't need to remove scars anyway." Feng Xiaoxiao did have scars on her body, but to her mind they hardly mattered. She was a dying woman — what did she care for such external things? Time spent on that was better spent on amusements. Then, suddenly curious, she asked, "Wei Zhao, what did you mean just now? Was Fatty Lai's formula something you gave him?"
The moment Wei Zhao heard her words, he knew he had let something slip. Feng Xiaoxiao's presence here really was a nuisance — it made even talking with Fatty Lai awkward.
"Don't spread it around," Wei Zhao said mildly, glancing at Feng Xiaoxiao.
"Then let me be your girlfriend! That way you won't have to worry about me leaking secrets!" Feng Xiaoxiao giggled, pleased to have caught him by the tail.
"Then go ahead and tell people." Wei Zhao shrugged indifferently. Though he took no part in the pharmaceutical company's affairs, plenty of people knew that he was the man behind it, so he had no fear of Feng Xiaoxiao knowing either.
"You!" Feng Xiaoxiao was furious. "Fine, don't tell me then. But you tell me this — do you know medicine?"
"A little." Wei Zhao saw no reason to keep hiding it.
"That life-extending, toxin-expelling pill from yesterday — could you give me one?" Feng Xiaoxiao looked at Wei Zhao with some hope. She had already despaired of her own illness, but who truly wanted to die? Yesterday the auctioneer had described that life-extending, toxin-expelling pill as something miraculous, capable of washing the marrow and purging the bones — practically a panacea. Might it not improve her constitution?
"There are none left." Wei Zhao shrugged. "Why do you want it?"
"To take it, of course!" said Feng Xiaoxiao.
"You're not sick. You don't need it." Wei Zhao waved a hand.
