Gu Mengyao was about to speak, but Shen Yushu blinked, stepped in front of her first, and said to Tang Yun, "Let me introduce you — Sister Yaoyao is Shield Bro's girlfriend!"
"Shield Bro? Who's that?" Tang Yun didn't quite understand what Shen Yushu meant.
"Shield Bro, of course, is Wei Zhao. Hee hee!" Shen Yushu laughed slyly.
"Wei Zhao? Girlfriend?" Tang Yun's eyes went wide. She thought to herself, I'm Wei Zhao's girlfriend — how did Gu Mengyao become his girlfriend too? What on earth was going on? If Feng Xiaoxiao had been standing there saying such a thing, Tang Yun could have understood it. But coming from Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu, it struck her as utterly absurd! How had Wei Zhao gotten tangled up with the two of them?
Gu Mengyao shot Shen Yushu a glare, but the word "girlfriend," falling on her ears, stirred no aversion in her — on the contrary, it brought a strange, unfamiliar feeling that she found she did not want to reject.
"Hello, my name is Gu Mengyao, Wei Zhao's fiancée." Gu Mengyao extended her hand gracefully toward Tang Yun, lifting her proud head and looking down at Tang Yun from on high. In that moment, the innate nobility of a young miss was displayed to its fullest.
Tang Yun stared at Gu Mengyao in astonishment. Wei Zhao's fiancée? It left her unsettled — this was far too sudden. She was Wei Zhao's fiancée? Gu Mengyao was the renowned young miss of the school, the chairman's daughter. She — and Wei Zhao were involved?
Despite her shock, Tang Yun still stubbornly reached out and shook Gu Mengyao's hand. "My name is Tang Yun, Wei Zhao's girlfriend. How come I've never heard Wei Zhao mention that he has a fiancée?"
Seeing Gu Mengyao's bearing, Tang Yun felt a measure of certainty. If the woman before her had no connection to Wei Zhao, she likely wouldn't be standing here at this very moment. But that she was Wei Zhao's fiancée — that, Tang Yun did not quite believe. She had just been deceived by Feng Xiaoxiao not long ago, and Tang Yun's guard was up high. How could she be fooled so easily by a few words from someone? So even though the other was a proud young miss, Tang Yun began to fight back.
For the first time, she was struggling to defend her love. She did not want to fall into another misunderstanding with Wei Zhao over something groundless.
"I've heard of you," Gu Mengyao said mildly. It had to be admitted that with a single sentence, Gu Mengyao seized the advantage — by showing that her relationship with Wei Zhao was closer than Tang Yun's. Wei Zhao told her everything, while Wei Zhao kept things from Tang Yun.
"Is that so? Since you've heard of me, then you should know that my relationship with Wei Zhao is publicly acknowledged at school. Since when did you become Wei Zhao's fiancée?" Tang Yun's words were sharp. She hadn't contended before because she hadn't wanted to contend, and hadn't needed to.
But the taste of losing Wei Zhao these past days had been bitter, tormenting Tang Yun unbearably. Add to that Gu Mengyao's needling at this moment, and Tang Yun naturally straightened her back. She was Wei Zhao's girlfriend — that was acknowledged by all.
Tang Yun's words left Gu Mengyao somewhat at a loss for a reply. Her earlier sparring with Tang Yun had been born of a competitive streak, but she had never actually been in a romance with Wei Zhao, and so she felt instinctively guilty. Now, faced with Tang Yun's aggressive pressing, she was at a loss how to respond — yet she did not want to lower her head and concede. She had already made her bold claims; how could she retreat?
"What's so strange about that? Sister Yaoyao and Shield Bro's matter was arranged by the family. There was no need to tell anyone else, right, Sister Yaoyao?" Though Shen Yushu usually bickered and roughhoused with Gu Mengyao, the two were now on the same battle line — when an outside enemy appeared, they closed ranks. She stood with hands on her hips in front of Gu Mengyao, speaking on her behalf.
