"Uh..." Fei Yangnian choked for a moment, then said weakly, "Senior, I don't know much about her. I've only heard that her talent is extraordinary, that she's one of the sect's disciples most likely to break through to the Golden Core stage. Beyond that, I know nothing."
Saying this made him somewhat uneasy—not because he was lying to or concealing anything from Wei Zhao, but because the last time, he had harbored improper designs on Leng Leng. If Wei Zhao were to recall that now and settle old scores, he would be dead for certain.
In truth, Wei Zhao had no such intention at all. If he truly meant to kill Fei Yangnian, he would do so regardless of whether he remembered the earlier matter; and now that he had said he would give the man a chance, he would not go back on his word.
After hearing these answers, Wei Zhao fell silent at once. These four questions were what he most wished to know now. Though Fei Yangnian's answers were hardly comprehensive or detailed, they still provided him with a good deal of information, giving him a rough picture of the Heavenly Dao-stage experts of the Primordial Little Jianghu—at least he was no longer completely in the dark as before.
Only with such knowledge in hand could one remain unruffled by alarms. For Wei Zhao, the mortal world held far too many ties. His previous fretting over gains and losses had been only human nature: because he was vulnerable, he had classified every unknown factor as a threat. Had this happened on Cloud Terrace Island, Wei Zhao would never have troubled himself so.
Wei Zhao's sudden silence terrified Fei Yangnian, still kneeling on the ground. He thought he must have said something inadequate and provoked the other's killing intent, and hurriedly begged for mercy: "Spare me, Senior! Every word this humble one spoke is the truth, without the slightest concealment! Be magnanimous and overlook this humble one's faults—spare my worthless life..."
Wei Zhao was caught between laughter and tears. To save his skin, the man had struck a posture of submission so textbook-perfect that, given how sensibly he had played along, Wei Zhao could hardly bring himself to kill him.
"I said it before. So long as you answer my questions properly, I'll spare your life. Seeing that you've been reasonably sensible, I won't kill you today," Wei Zhao said flatly.
"Thank you, Senior! Thank you, Senior!" Fei Yangnian was overjoyed. Ignoring his knees, which had gone numb from kneeling, he forced himself up and turned to flee—he dared not stay in this place a moment longer.
But before he could get out the door, Wei Zhao suddenly said, "Hold on. How am I supposed to find you later?"
"Huh? You'll still be looking for me?" Fei Yangnian nearly burst into tears. He could not flee this fiend fast enough; he had barely salvaged his little life. Why would the man still want to find him? Did this mean he intended to keep dealing with him in the future?
"What? You're not willing?" Wei Zhao's face turned cold at once.
Sensing the icy killing intent emanating from the other, Fei Yangnian promptly burst into frightened tears and hurriedly said, "No, no—it's an honor for Senior to seek me out! How could I be unwilling? If Senior wishes to find me, just go to Shennongjia. That's the rallying point for us trial disciples."
"Is that so?" Wei Zhao glanced at him with a look of half-belief.
"Absolutely true! My little life is in Senior's hands—I might lie to anyone, but never to Senior," Fei Yangnian said hastily. That much was indeed no lie. What his true intentions were, however, was another matter: the Shennongjia rallying point was garrisoned by experts from the great sects, and if Wei Zhao dared go there, he would die without a doubt—no chance of survival whatsoever.
"Good, then." Wei Zhao nodded, and without betraying anything in his expression, left a divine-sense marker on the man. A weakling like Fei Yangnian could not possibly detect it.
