Chapter 1808 — Mist Upon the Sea of Ruins
The Herdsman of the Wasteland Page 2 of 2
She had barely thought this far when she saw that Palace Master Hehuan had fallen in behind her — the lash had actually whipped her clean past Hehuan.
The blow had been so powerful that she had not hindered Huang Tang in the slightest!
Huang Tang came on, and Palace Master Hehuan's heart lurched. Then Palace Master Phoenix's voice reached her: "Beware that branch! It is Old Man Wuya's treasure!"
Huang Tang had already stirred the branch to strike. Without a moment's thought, Palace Master Hehuan roused the divine power of the Third Young Master Lingxiao within her brow.
At the same time the Golden Ship of Salvation came charging in. Aboard it, Kaihuang and Palace Master Zengcheng fought hard against hard, blade to blade at close quarters, and in the space of a single instant both were wounded, each bearing a hundred-odd gashes great and small.
Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh!
The five Dao-attainers of Miluo Palace cut down the prehistoric powerhouses Huang Tang had brought, and one after another their figures landed aboard the golden ship.
Xu Shenghua, Lan Yutian and the rest, having no leisure to make more trouble for Palace Master Phoenix and Palace Master Hehuan, stepped forward at once and took their places behind Kaihuang Shen Ye.
Palace Master Zengcheng retreated a step and stood with the five Dao-attainers of Miluo Palace.
The two sides faced off, killing intent thick in the air.
The golden ship's speed was terrifying; still it drove straight for Palace Master Hehuan.
Yet just then the divine power of the Third Young Master Lingxiao erupted, colliding thunderously with Old Man Wuya's branch.
When the Third Young Master Lingxiao's divine power burst forth, the sky of the Ancestral Court collapsed with a roar, as though at that very moment countless ancient gods had appeared, all wielding the great Dao of Hongmeng at once; and in the crumbling heavens the phantom image of the Lingxiao Treasure Hall floated into being!
Look closely, and the runes composing that Lingxiao Treasure Hall resembled deity after deity, built from the bodies of gods — like a pantheon of ten thousand divinities!
If one's gaze were fine enough, one could see that these were no true deities, but the forms of gods constructed from Hongmeng runes.
Through all ages past and present, far too many powerhouses had cultivated the Lingxiao realm; their bitter cultivation had become imprint after imprint upon the Lingxiao Hall, appearing upon its walls.
Never mind how profound the Third Young Master's divine power was — his cultivation alone was enough to stand proud across seventeen cosmic eras, with scarce an opponent to be found!
And in Huang Tang's hand, tens of thousands of great Dao divine powers erupted from the World Tree's branch to meet the Third Young Master Lingxiao's strike, each Dao exquisite beyond compare, like the peak blow of a Dao-attainer!
The divine powers Old Man Wuya had hidden within the World Tree's branch were infinite in transformation; in subtlety they were absolutely without peer, a second to be found nowhere!
The two dreadful divine powers collided, exploded; their might ran riot, sweeping away everything!
In that moment no one could spare a thought for striking down their foes; every one of them had to rouse all the divine powers at their command and fight desperately to preserve themselves!
Facing that fearsome impact, the Golden Ship of Salvation too lit up with rosy radiance in that instant, shielding itself.
As the waves of two supreme divine powers swept over it, the golden ship shuddered and shook violently in the blast, tossing and rocking without rest.
A long while passed before the ripples of that collision subsided. Huang Tang spat mouthful after mouthful of blood; Palace Master Hehuan and Palace Master Phoenix were each wounded as well, gasping for breath.
The Golden Ship of Salvation steadied itself and drifted lightly down.
All around, the two supreme divine powers had wrought a stretch of chaos; chaos qi drifted everywhere. The golden ship fell into that chaos qi and abruptly halted a moment — and then simply floated.
All about was brightness; no longer was it the dark starry sky. Boundless chaos qi washed back and forth. The two Palace Masters descended, their aura pressing the chaos qi apart — and suddenly their faces changed drastically, for where the chaos qi parted lay a vast and mighty Sea of Chaos.
Huang Tang, forcibly stirring the World Tree's branch, was just about to deal the two of them a killing blow when his own expression changed despite himself. He looked around, and there upon the surface of that boundless chaotic ocean drifted enormous lotus leaves, one after another.
Stems covered in sharp thorns thrust straight into the sky, like the stalks of lotuses, yet incomparably thick and vast — an awe-inspiring sight.
Upon that Sea of Chaos floated a Chaos Hall, borne up by a lotus like a pedestal; and before the hall sat Shen Mu and Ling Yuxiu.
The hearts of Palace Master Hehuan and Palace Master Phoenix sank little by little.
This place was the Ruins.
When they had entered the Ruins, they themselves had never noticed.
By rights, the fluctuations of the Ruins were exceedingly strange, and for Dao-attainers it was a perilous place indeed; never mind entering the Ruins — even passing by its edge, they would have sensed it at once.
Yet this time, only when they had entered the deepest reaches of the Ruins and beheld the Sea of Chaos did they realize they had already fallen into the Ruins.
Meanwhile, within the Ancestral Court, the Haotian Emperor raised his head and looked up. Seeing the figures of the several Palace Masters and Huang Tang vanish in an instant, his heart turned to ice.
"These Palace Masters are finished..." He wiped the cold sweat from his brow and continued on toward the World Tree.
On the Sea of Chaos of the Ruins, before the Chaos Hall, Shen Mu rose to his feet.
