Chapter 135 — Who Is Pestering Whom? Did She Really Think That After She Gave Him a Good Scolding He Would Straighten Out and Give Up on His Designs on Her?
But that should have been impossible. The key question was this: how had Wei Zhao ended up on a bus? Did he not have a private car and driver to ferry him about?
"You... are you deliberately riding the same bus as me?" Tang Yun voiced the doubt in her heart.
"Deliberately?" Wei Zhao smiled bitterly and rubbed his nose. "I got on first. How was I supposed to know you would board in the shantytown? Can I see the future?"
Hey, now that she mentioned it—Wei Zhao unconsciously touched the jade pendant at his chest again. He really could predict things... only the predictions were not much use. He never knew what exactly they meant. What could he do? He could not read the signal. He had no idea what on earth the jade pendant was trying to tell him.
Hearing his answer, Tang Yun was slightly taken aback. Yes—she had boarded after him. How could he possibly have known she would get on? Even if he knew she took Bus No. 87, there was no way he could have landed on the same bus by such coincidence. Besides, today she had been delayed a while in shaking off that little rogue's pestering...
Could it be that the little rogue had been hired by Wei Zhao, deliberately stalling for time, working with him to stage a fine scene of the hero saving the beauty? The moment the thought arose, Tang Yun herself found it laughable. It was plain that Wei Zhao was not such a bored person; the fellow was arrogant and would surely disdain such tricks. And that little rogue had been pestering her for a long time—back when Wei Zhao had not even transferred to the school. The possibility was next to nothing.
"Oh..." Tang Yun nodded, more or less accepting Wei Zhao's explanation. The two of them really had just run into each other by chance.
"Is there something else you need?" Wei Zhao saw Tang Yun standing before him, showing no sign of leaving, and could not tell what she wanted.
Tang Yun was stunned. She stared at Wei Zhao in disbelief, her mouth falling slightly open. "You're not going to... come after me?"
In her heart Tang Yun was still somewhat afraid of Wei Zhao. On the bus he had shielded her the whole way; now that they had gotten off, she had no idea whether he would keep pestering her—yet never had she expected him to ask whether she had anything else to do.
"What would I come after you for?" Wei Zhao was startled too, then smiled bitterly. "Say two more words and you'll be late..."
"Ah!" Tang Yun glanced at her watch, stamped her foot in anger, shot Wei Zhao a resentful glare, and ran off quickly toward the school... Her face, though, burned red as a sunset cloud. What he had just said made it sound as if she were the one pestering him! Was she not staying because she was afraid?
The faint good impression of Wei Zhao she had formed on the bus vanished without a trace, leaving only boundless annoyance.
Watching Tang Yun's ponytail sway in the wind, Wei Zhao smiled faintly. Youth—how wonderful it was!
Tang Yun ran breathlessly to the school gate and nearly collided head-on with someone just coming out. She hurriedly dodged aside—and saw that the person emerging was Zou Ruoming!
"Damn it all, who walks around without eyes? Nearly ran into me!" Zou Ruoming cursed on impulse. But once he had cursed, he got a clear look at Tang Yun standing by the gate, somewhat flustered, and his face broke into a grin at once. "Yunyun, my apologies, I thought it was someone else. Had I known it was you, I'd have welcomed you to bump into me! How about it—shall we bump?"
Hearing Zou Ruoming's indecent lewd talk, Tang Yun's face darkened. "Zou Ruoming, don't talk nonsense."
"Hey, what nonsense? I'm not talking nonsense!" Zou Ruoming's face was full of lecherous smiles. Usually, with so many people around, he would not go too far at school; but the bell time had passed and no one was coming or going at the gate, so Zou Ruoming could not quite hold himself back. "Yunyun, have you thought it over? Be my girl?"
"You... get out of the way..." Zou Ruoming was blocking the gate, and Tang Yun could not get in. She had no choice but to steel herself and ask him to move.
"Say yes to me and I'll move." Zou Ruoming snickered, utterly shameless.
"You..." Seeing how rogue-like Zou Ruoming was, Tang Yun bit her lip in grievance... This fellow was even more of a rogue than Wei Zhao! If it were Wei Zhao, he would not push her like this. If she cried, or even looked upset, Wei Zhao would surely leave... Or she could simply stomp on his instep and see whether he moved then! Hmph... "What about me?" Zou Ruoming was now like the supreme, invincible tyrant of the universe, giving his evil nature full play. "Your brother here is very strong, you know!"
"You... if you don't move... I'll call Wei Zhao!" Tang Yun truly could not stand Zou Ruoming's lewd eyes and words any longer. Somehow, Wei Zhao's name slipped out.
Zou Ruoming's dissolute expression froze the instant he heard the two words "Wei Zhao." He instinctively glanced around, found no trace of Wei Zhao, and only then began to swagger again.
Though these past few days he had been scheming to have his big brother Zou Ruoguang deal with Wei Zhao, before that happened he was still very much afraid of Wei Zhao. After all, that slap and that basketball had left him with a bit of a psychological shadow.
"Damn it, don't use Wei Zhao to scare me. Who do you think he is? Your flower-protecting knight?" Having seen no Wei Zhao, Zou Ruoming turned overbearing again. "Where is he? Call him out! Do you think he's your imperial guard or your personal bodyguard? When he shows up, I'll beat the crap out of him!"
"Who are you going to beat the crap out of?" Wang Zhifeng had just finished a tryst with his little sweetheart and was in excellent spirits, making his rounds at the school, when he heard someone at the gate shouting about "beating the crap out of him." He flew into a rage at once. Was this not a slap in his face? To say such things in front of the dignified Dean of Students was practically courting death!
Zou Ruoming was badly startled by the sudden voice. He turned his head and saw Wang Zhifeng glowering at him from over there, and wilted at once... It was impossible to say he did not fear the Dean of Students.
Songshan City No.1 High School was not like the schools he had attended before. This was a private high school with powerful backing, and its Dean of Students had the authority to expel students. Zou Ruoming did not want to be expelled.
Seeing Wang Zhifeng arrive, Tang Yun breathed a sigh of relief. Otherwise, there was no telling how long Zou Ruoming would keep pestering her.
"Dean Wang..." Zou Ruoming smiled apologetically, cautiously. "I was just shouting a couple of things at random... the pressure of studying is too great, so I was just letting off some steam..."
"Letting off steam? Why don't you go home and let off steam at your old man?" Wang Zhifeng frowned. Zou Ruoming's father was somebody too, but Wang Zhifeng did not give a damn about him. The post of Dean of Students at No.1 High School was a cushy one; he knew far too many people in society. Whose family did not have a child? No matter how capable a parent was, once they came to the school they still had to keep on good terms with the Dean of Students and the principal...
"Heh heh..." Zou Ruoming laughed awkwardly. Go home? As if he dared—that would be asking for a beating. His big brother ran with the underworld, and his old man still hoped he would get into university and bring glory to the family name...
