Chapter 235 — Tang Yun's Prank
Wei Zhao really could not stay any longer. The more Tang Yun talked, the more tangled it became, and Tang's mother was already all but treating him as the villain who had ruined her daughter. How could he not leave?
Climbing into Black Panther's battered van, Wei Zhao drove off toward Gu Mengyao's villa.
Shabby as the van was, it was far less flashy than Shen Yushu's Beetle when driven out, and that made it discreet. Wei Zhao decided to simply keep it for himself, then get Qiu Lingshan to fix a license plate for it.
Getting Yang Huaijun to handle something like this would have taken only a word, but Wei Zhao insisted on asking Qiu Lingshan. For no other reason than that he had helped that girl so many times — if she was still unwilling to do this one small thing for him, he would simply ignore her from now on.
Only after Wei Zhao had left did Tang Yun shyly take hold of her mother's hand. "Mom, what are you doing..."
"What do you mean what am I doing? Yun-er, this is a serious matter! What if he won't take responsibility?" Tang's mother grew anxious. "How can you be so foolish? Haven't you learned anything from Xiaofen's affair?"
Seeing her mother's nervous look, a mischievous impulse suddenly came into Tang Yun's heart for no reason, and she said to her mother, "Wasn't it you who told me to make friends with Wei Zhao? How can you blame me now?"
"This..." Tang's mother was left speechless by her daughter, a little stunned. Yes, she herself had been snobbish enough to urge her daughter to date Wei Zhao... and now here she was blaming her daughter?
At this thought, Tang's mother felt a wave of bleak sorrow. Back then she had only thought that Wei Zhao came from a good family and her daughter would not lose out by following him, but now that something like this had really happened, she began to panic.
Seeing her mother look like that, Tang Yun lost all heart for joking. "All right, Mom. It really isn't the way you think."
"Hmm?" Tang's mother froze. "You two didn't..."
"No, Mom. Actually, today I was seized by bad men, and Wei Zhao rescued me..." Tang Yun hid nothing, telling her mother how she had been taken away and how Zou Ruoming had nearly violated her... and afterward how she had been drugged and how Wei Zhao had saved her, recounting it all exactly as it happened. When she came to the part where she had torn her own clothes herself, Tang Yun lowered her head in embarrassment...
"Yun-er..." Hearing that Tang Yun had nearly been ruined by Zou Ruoming, Tang's mother was both shocked and furious, and pulled Tang Yun into her arms. "It's all Mom's fault for being useless, for not being able to protect you..."
"Mom, don't say that. You have already given me more than enough..." Tang Yun was not an ungrateful child. A poor family's child grows up early, and she knew how hard her mother toiled for this family every day.
"That Zou Ruoming is a real bastard! Thank goodness for Wei Zhao, otherwise... ah!" Tang's mother said with lingering fear. "But, tell me, in that situation, did Wei Zhao really do nothing to you?"
"Mm..." Tang Yun nodded. This was the very root of her changed impression of Wei Zhao, and because of it she no longer rejected him in her heart... He was fundamentally different from men like Zou Ruoming and Zhong Yongliang.
"Then Mom really misjudged you two!" Tang's mother was puzzled. In such circumstances, with her practically delivered to his door, by what logic would Wei Zhao refuse? Yet refuse he had. What did that mean?
"Does Wei Zhao not like you?" Tang's mother suddenly thought of a possibility. Perhaps Wei Zhao did not like Tang Yun at all! Perhaps all of this had been nothing but her own wishful thinking.
"Huh?" Tang Yun was taken aback. "Mom, why would you ask that?"
"If he liked you, how could he have refused? Mom was your age once too, and I understand something of how young people think. To be able to refuse under those circumstances, that is the only possible explanation!" Tang's mother reasoned.
"Oh, Mom, stop asking so many questions..." Tang Yun said, embarrassed, shyly shaking her mother's arm.
"Why can't Mom ask? Of course Mom has to keep track of how things stand with you!" Tang's mother grew only more anxious. If Wei Zhao did not like her daughter, then would her family stay poor forever?
"He said that only if I agree to be with him, to date him, would he..." At this point Tang Yun herself was too shy to go on, and ignoring the fact that her mother was still standing there, she ran into the house by herself...
"Oh?" Hearing Tang Yun's account, Tang's mother felt quite comforted, though she still shook her head. "That boy Wei Zhao is really quite good. If so, he should treat Yun-er well in the future..."
At this thought, Tang's mother cheered up again...
In the outer room of an intensive-care ward at Songshan City First People's Hospital, Qiu Lingshan sat at a desk with several police officers.
Qiu Lingshan frowned tightly and looked helplessly at her colleagues. "Do any of you have an idea?"
Black Panther had woken up, but he refused to say a word about why his strength had suddenly surged, wearing an expression that said kill or flay as you please. Qiu Lingshan could do nothing with him.
After all, whether Black Panther's strength had suddenly spiked had nothing to do with the case. If he would not talk, Qiu Lingshan had no way to force him to talk. She was simply curious herself.
"Chief Song, I say let's just forget it. He has no strength left now anyway. If he won't talk, there's nothing we can do, and it has nothing to do with the case. Just send him straight back to the detention center and we can close the case!" one subordinate suggested.
What he said was reasonable enough — Qiu Lingshan had no grounds to dig into anything unrelated to the case... Just as Qiu Lingshan was torn, a policeman assigned to guard Black Panther ran out of the ward. "Captain Song, he talked..."
"He talked? What did he say?" Qiu Lingshan asked.
"He said that years ago he took some kind of pill, and he can trigger it at any time to burst his strength to its peak, but he can't hold it for long before returning to his normal level..." the policeman said. "Black Panther wanted to sleep, and I nagged him till he got annoyed, so he told me..."
"What?" Hearing her subordinate's report, Qiu Lingshan was instantly full of black lines. Saying it this way was as good as saying nothing, with no usable value at all. Black Panther had not actually lied, however. Years ago he really had taken a similar pill which, combined with his sect's mental mantra, could be triggered to make his power surge in an instant.
Thinking of how weak Black Panther was now, Qiu Lingshan chose to believe him — she had no choice but to believe. Black Panther had indeed been crippled by Wei Zhao. If his level had not dropped, Qiu Lingshan would never have believed Wei Zhao could be this formidable.
"All right. Once Black Panther's injuries heal, send him back to the detention center to await trial." Qiu Lingshan waved her hand. This Black Panther had really put her through the wringer, and she had not slept well for days. Now that he was caught, sending him back would count as mission accomplished.
