Chapter 318 — A Moment's Radiance
"Then... I'll be going...?" Tang Yun clutched the phone box, a little uneasy. It was the first time she had ever accepted such an expensive gift from anyone — and from a boy, no less — and it left her heart unsettled for a long, long while.
"Mm. I may not have my phone on these next few days. If anything comes up, send a text; I'll check it once I turn the phone on." Wei Zhao said. "In a bit, you and Kang Xiaobo and the others take a taxi back. Make Kang Xiaobo pay!"
"Heh... all right." At his words, Tang Yun could not help but break into a smile — a fleeting brilliance, like a night-blooming cereus bursting into flower.
Something stirred in Wei Zhao's heart. He caught Tang Yun's hand and pulled her back...
"Wh-what are you doing..." Startled, Tang Yun instinctively glanced at Kang Xiaobo and Liu Xinwen, who had already gotten out of the car. Seeing that they had noticed nothing, she let out a breath of relief.
"We're about to part. Aren't you going to give me something?" Wei Zhao pointed at his own cheek and asked.
"La... later..." How could Tang Yun withstand such liberties from Wei Zhao? She wrenched her hand free with all her strength and ran quickly out of the car. Only then, her heart pounding, did she let out a long breath. She shot Wei Zhao a reproachful look, pursed her lips, and turned her head away, refusing to pay him any more attention.
Had anyone else treated Tang Yun this way, she might well have fled in tears. But with Wei Zhao, all that remained was shyness... Suddenly realizing this, Tang Yun felt a little lost... She was sinking deeper and deeper — was that really a good thing?
"Yunyun, what's wrong? You look a bit off." Liu Xinwen had been talking with Kang Xiaobo; when she looked up and saw Tang Yun, she found her face flushed red, as if she had come down with heatstroke.
"N-nothing..." Tang Yun hurriedly shook her head, not letting Liu Xinwen see anything amiss. "Let's... let's go..."
Liu Xinwen shook her head, unable to guess what had come over Tang Yun. She glanced back at Wei Zhao's car, only to find it already far away, and so she could only bury her questions in her heart.
Before leaving the country, Wei Zhao had to cure Liu Zhenhu's illness. It would wring some money out of the man, and at the same time let Guan Xuemin begin planning the pharmaceutical company as soon as possible.
This business taught Wei Zhao the truth of the saying: better to be timely than early. He had just been wondering how to scrape together a hundred million in startup capital, and in the blink of an eye the Liu family had delivered it to his door. Few in this world could match such efficiency at raising funds.
Wei Zhao first called Guan Xuemin and told him to have Liu Zhenhu and the others brought over; he would be there shortly.
"Fine. Liu Tianyi is already waiting here. The moment you give the word, he'll have the old man brought over." Guan Xuemin said. "Have you eaten lunch?"
"Not yet, but there's no hurry," Wei Zhao said.
"Then let me have Xinxin prepare some food." Guan Xuemin decided for Wei Zhao without allowing any argument.
"Heh... all right." Wei Zhao did not bother arguing over such trifles; he drove straight to Guan Xuemin's home.
When Wei Zhao arrived, Liu Zhenhu was already there, seated in the villa's main hall waiting for him. Seeing Wei Zhao come through the door, the old man rose to his feet himself, supported by Liu Tianyi. "Young Divine Doctor, I'll be troubling you!"
Liu Zhenhu's manner rather embarrassed Wei Zhao. He had taken so much money from the man, and still the man treated him with such reverence. But he truly was short of money now, so he could not afford to soften.
Besides, this was not his doing. If anyone was to blame, it was them — for marrying a snobbish daughter-in-law and for having a brainless nephew.
"Old Liu, there's no need for such courtesy!" Wei Zhao waved a hand. "Let's go. Find an empty room."
"Very well, Divine Doctor. And the consultation fee..." Liu Tianyi was no fool. If he did not ask about the fee, he could hardly leave it unmentioned; to feign ignorance would be to show poor manners.
"Grandpa Guan, do you have a bank account? Just transfer it over," Wei Zhao said, turning to Guan Xuemin.
"Transfer it to me?" Guan Xuemin was briefly startled, then understood that Wei Zhao meant for him to plan the pharmaceutical company. He nodded. "That works. Then transfer it to me for now. Mr. Liu, you know my account number?"
"I do." Liu Tianyi nodded. He had previously prepared two million to transfer to Guan Xuemin as a consultation fee, so he had noted down Guan Xuemin's number. Liu Tianyi called one of his men directly and had him transfer the prepared hundred million in funds to Guan Xuemin's account. Before long, Guan Xuemin's phone chimed with a deposit notification.
After confirming that all was in order, Wei Zhao nodded in satisfaction. It seemed Liu Tianyi was a man of his word; there would be no need to cut ties with him entirely in the future. It was only that wife of his who was truly beyond praise.
In an empty room upstairs, Wei Zhao had Liu Zhenhu lie flat on his back, asked Guan Xuemin for a box of silver needles, and then quietly gazed at Liu Zhenhu, in no hurry to insert the needles, mulling something over instead.
He had already examined Liu Zhenhu's condition the first time they met, so there was no need to check again. What he was weighing now was the treatment plan — how to cure Liu Zhenhu's angina most swiftly and effectively.
Of course, a complete cure was impossible — at least not now. Some of Old Man Wei's miracle pills were hidden away as jealously as treasures; there was no way he could get his hands on them.
But keeping the illness from flaring up for ten years was possible — though it smacked a little of deception.
Wei Zhao sighed. Never mind. He would keep it under control for ten years first; if Liu Zhenhu truly lived to a ripe old age, it would be soon enough to think of other methods then.
With that thought, Wei Zhao began inserting needles into Liu Zhenhu with flying speed — so fast that even Guan Xuemin, a master hand at acupuncture, was shaken. It flowed like clouds and water, done in one continuous breath.
Two minutes later, Wei Zhao began lifting, thrusting, twirling, and twisting each needle...
"Neiguan, Ximen, Yinxi, Juque, Shanzhong — channel your energy in..." Old Jiao's voice suddenly sounded at Wei Zhao's ear.
Wei Zhao was overjoyed. He had no idea what sort of being Old Jiao really was, but with his help, clearly half the effort would yield double the result! Wei Zhao hurried to do as instructed...
At that moment, the handles of the energy-infused silver needles suddenly began to buzz and tremble, as though driven by something. Even after Wei Zhao's hand left the handles, the needles kept quivering on Liu Zhenhu's body without pause...
Guan Xuemin's eyes went wide as he stared in disbelief at the silver needles on Liu Zhenhu's body. What kind of acupuncture was this? How had he never seen it before? Not only had he never seen it — he had never even heard of it! He had never known that silver needles, once parted from the one who inserted them, could still "dance" on a patient's body!
