Chapter 462 — Xiaoshu Fights the Shark: Shen Yushu's Cry Alerts the Swimmers to a Shark Fin Gliding in the Water

"Huh?" Gu Mengyao jumped in fright and looked where Shen Yushu was pointing. Sure enough, a shark fin was drifting back and forth in the water. "Isn't this a swimming zone? How can there be a shark here?"

"I opened a gap in the barrier over there earlier, so the shark just swam in!" Zhong Yongliang came trotting over at that moment, eager to claim credit before Shen Yushu and Gu Mengyao.

This was not empty boasting on Zhong Yongliang's part. Afraid Shen Yushu would see through his trick, he had deliberately swum out to the distant safety barrier and torn a wide opening in it.

Of course, Zhong Yongliang was not worried that a real shark would swim in, for the odds were far too small. Unless the smell of blood in the water drew one over, why would a shark come here for no reason?

"Oh! That's wonderful! At last we get to eat shark meat. Xiao Liangzi, well done!" Shen Yushu clapped Zhong Yongliang happily on the shoulder, then asked with some concern, "Hey, Xiao Liangzi, did you wash yourself clean? You don't still stink, do you?"

"All gone, all gone! I soaked in the seawater for ages. There's only a salty smell left!" Zhong Yongliang was deeply embarrassed and hastened to explain.

"That's more like it!" Though she said so, Shen Yushu still edged away from him almost imperceptibly.

The classmates swimming in the sea saw the shark attack and were badly frightened, scrambling for shore in a panic. In no time, there was no one left in the water but the shark.

Gao Xiaofu swam toward the shallows with relief, while Zhong Yongliang was rolling up his sleeves to go down and fight the shark bravely, only to see Shen Yushu dart past him a step ahead.

"Xiaoshu, where are you going? It's dangerous!" Gu Mengyao was startled by Shen Yushu's move and cried out to stop her.

"It's fine, I'm just going to look!" Shen Yushu felt no fear of sharks. Last time, half dazed, she had finished off a shark with Wei Zhao leading her, which made her think sharks were nothing special and should be easy to kill. So she wanted to see if she could take down this one herself.

"Yes, Xiaoshu, don't go over there. It's too dangerous. Let me catch this shark!" Zhong Yongliang was also afraid that if Shen Yushu got too close she would spot the flaw.

But Shen Yushu paid Zhong Yongliang no mind and ran straight for the shore. Zhong Yongliang had no choice but to plunge into the sea a step ahead of her, terrified that in her recklessness she would jump right in after him.

Not far off, Wei Zhao looked up from the beach at the shark in the sea, glanced at Shen Yushu, then lowered his head again and paid no further attention.

"Hey, aren't you their bodyguard and follower? There's a shark in the water. Why don't you go protect Shen Yushu?" Feng Xiaoxiao eyed Wei Zhao's behavior with some surprise.

"Isn't Zhong Yongliang already there? Then I won't bother going." Wei Zhao smiled.

"Him?" Feng Xiaoxiao had expected Wei Zhao to charge forward, which would have exposed his connection to Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu. Yet he seemed to have no intention of going. "When there's danger, he runs faster than a rabbit."

"Ha, since you know that too, why should I go? If there were real danger, Zhong Yongliang would have bolted long ago. Does he look like he's in danger now?" Wei Zhao asked.

"Not really." Feng Xiaoxiao nodded.

"Besides, is that even a shark?" Wei Zhao gave a cold laugh. Do sharks swim like that? Gliding sideways? That would make one hell of a shark.

"Not a shark? Then what is it?" Feng Xiaoxiao was taken aback, unsure what Wei Zhao meant.

"Watch and you'll know." Wei Zhao was not certain what was in the sea either, though it did not look like something mechanical. It looked more like a person.

Zhong Yongliang leapt straight into the sea and pointed at the shark with a roar. "You bold shark, how dare you come here! Why don't you hurry up and meet your death?"

"Wow, I never thought Zhong Yongliang was so brave! He actually dares to fight a shark!" The classmates on shore, who knew nothing of the truth, burst into admiration, leaving Zhong Yongliang a little light-headed with pride.

"Xiaoshu, let's move farther away. It's too dangerous here!" Gu Mengyao tugged at Shen Yushu, wanting to leave the water's edge.

"Sister Yaoyao, watch me!" Shen Yushu was not frightened in the least. She hauled an enormous cobblestone straight out of the sea and shouted, "Xiao Liangzi, get out of the way!"

Zhong Yongliang jumped in fright. Turning his head, he saw a huge oval object hurtling toward him. He dodged on instinct, and with a bang the oval thing smashed into the "shark" in the sea.

"Ow..." Gao Xiaofu let out a miserable howl as the cobblestone struck him square on the forehead. Blood welled out at once and in an instant dyed the surrounding seawater red.

"Yeah! I killed the shark!" Shen Yushu jumped for joy with excitement. She herself had not expected a single hit to land and draw blood from the shark.

"Why did I just hear a scream? Can sharks scream too?" Gu Mengyao gazed doubtfully at the sea, as if trying to make something out.

"Uh, that was me screaming!" Zhong Yongliang jumped in fright and hurried to explain. In his heart, though, he was worried. Surely Gao Xiaofu had not been smashed to death?

"You screamed? I hit the shark. What are you screaming for?" Shen Yushu asked in puzzlement.

"Well, the shark was in pain, and since it can't scream, I screamed for it! Yes, I screamed in its place!" Zhong Yongliang explained with a forced laugh.

"I see..." Shen Yushu nodded. "Xiao Liangzi, hurry and haul up the shark I killed. I want roast shark meat!"

"Well... all right!" Zhong Yongliang was thoroughly deflated. He had meant to show off his skills, only to have Shen Yushu beat him to it. All his preparations had gone to waste.

Zhong Yongliang dived underwater and saw Gao Xiaofu grimacing and clutching his forehead. He seemed to have suffered nothing serious, only a flesh wound, and Zhong Yongliang breathed a sigh of relief. He pointed to the frozen shark bought from the supermarket that had been prepared on the seabed long ago, signaling Gao Xiaofu to push from behind while he pulled the shark up.

Gao Xiaofu endured the sharp pain in his head and helped Zhong Yongliang push the shark ashore, then quickly dived back into the water to come out somewhere else.

"This shark is pretty big!" Shen Yushu ran excitedly to the shark and poked its body with her finger. "Huh? Why is this shark so cold? It's like it just came out of a fridge?"

"Uh, well... sharks are cold-blooded, so they're cold!" Zhong Yongliang jumped in fright. Still, he came up with an excuse on the spot, and even he had to admire what a genius he was!
