Chapter 510 — Fainted with Rage: After Packing Up Feng Xiaoxiao's Order, Wu Chengtian Went to Settle the Bill, and Was Nearly Scared Silly by What He Saw

The Blossom Guardian

"This... how much is this?" Wu Chengtian's eyes went wide as he stared at the bill in his hand, scarcely able to believe it.

"Sir, your bill comes to fifteen million and thirty-seven thousand yuan. We will waive the odd change as a discount and charge you an even fifteen million." The waiter smiled.

"Fifteen million?" Wu Chengtian could hardly believe that a single meal had cost him five million. And yet there it was, written on the bill: every one of those signature dishes started at ten thousand, the dearest running to three or four hundred thousand; the single-head abalone was none too cheap either; and the cheapest thing on the whole table was probably that bottle of '82 Lafite he had ordered himself!

All the same, having read the bill through, Wu Chengtian was still puzzled: "Have you worked out the sum wrong? This only comes to a little over five million, so where did ten million appear from?"

"Sir, the vase on the table was crushed by you. The vase is worth ten million." The waiter explained, unhurried.

"Huh? A vase worth ten million?" Wu Chengtian was badly startled.

"Yes, sir. The vase is inlaid with six four-carat diamonds, and the body is made of solid gold. Ten million is merely its cost price." The waiter smiled. "We hold appraisal certificates from an authoritative institution. Would you care to inspect them, sir?"

Wu Chengtian felt like weeping, but no tears would come. This was daylight robbery. Still, he knew that a high-class place like this would not be out to fleece him on purpose; whatever price they named was the price.

Besides, for a four-carat diamond, a single loose stone would fetch upwards of a million. So six four-carat diamonds plus a golden vase — ten million really was not expensive.

And he had crushed it in one careless squeeze — and then given it away to Feng Xiaoxiao! It was enough to drive him mad. The price of this particular act was far too steep! Plainly, he could not go around putting on airs so freely in future.

Wu Chengtian saw that Wei Zhao, Feng Xiaoxiao, the Xiao brothers, Kang Zhaolong and the others had already walked over. He could only swallow the pain from his face and say loudly, on purpose: "The few of us didn't eat much at all, and after all that, it only came to fifteen million. This place is really cheap, really cheap!"

The Xiao brothers were struck dumb. They thought to themselves: the Wu family really is nothing like ours. One meal costs them fifteen million, and they still call it little. Truly out of the ordinary!

"Oh, Brother Chengtian, you really are rich!" Feng Xiaoxiao exclaimed. "Lots of people couldn't earn fifteen million in a whole lifetime, and you spend fifteen million on a single meal and still think nothing of it. That is just so impressive!"

"Of course! To the sons of families like ours, money like this is nothing at all!" Wu Chengtian had by now formed the habit: he was showing off every waking moment, so the words slipped out of their own accord.

"Then can I order another braised shark fin to take away? I wanted to order it back then, but I was afraid it would cost too much, so I didn't dare..." Feng Xiaoxiao looked at Wu Chengtian pitifully. "I really want to taste what shark fin is like!"

"Uh... yes, no problem!" Cold sweat beaded on Wu Chengtian's forehead. His family was not like the other merchant clans. The Wu family's income was only a few tens of millions a year, and only in a good year did it reach a hundred million, and out of that came every expense of the whole Wu household. So the younger generation's pocket money stopped at a few hundred thousand a year; he had just spent more than fifteen million on a single meal. If his grandfather Wu Gonggao heard of it, it would surely be the death of him!

But if he did not tell, he truly could not produce that money. Still, all that was secondary for now. He ordered a portion of shark fin for Feng Xiaoxiao, had it packed up, and sent her on her way; only then did he stand before the bar with a bitter face, searching for a way out.

By now the Xiao brothers had also been sent downstairs by Wu Chengtian. Only then did he hesitantly dial his grandfather's number.

"Hello? Grandfather, this is Chengtian!" Wu Chengtian said warily.

"What is it? I'm busy. Say it quickly!" Wu Gonggao had earlier swallowed a bellyful of rage at Feng Tianlong's place and had nowhere to vent it. That was not all, either: he had gone to his son-in-law Liu Tianyi, hoping to get the Life-Extending Detox Pill out of his hands, but the man had insisted it was for treating Liu Zhenhu's illness and could not be yielded to him, which left him both sullen and humiliated.

So even a phone call from his favorite grandson found him in a foul temper.

"Grandfather, I'm eating at a restaurant and I don't have enough money..." Wu Chengtian said feebly.

"Not enough money? Then why the hell are you eating there? What were you thinking before you went?" Wu Gonggao snorted. "Didn't you take your credit card? They don't take cards there?"

"It's not that... the card has a limit, and it isn't enough..." Wu Chengtian said guiltily.

"Not enough? How much did you spend that it isn't enough? Doesn't that card have a two-hundred-thousand limit?" Wu Gonggao's voice went up an octave at once.

"A thousand... a thousand..." Wu Chengtian was frightened now. This was the first time his grandfather had ever flown into such a rage at him.

"A thousand yuan? Your credit card can't even cover a thousand yuan? What do you spend it on, ordinarily?" Wu Gonggao was furious. The boy had actually run his credit card to its limit.

"It's not a thousand yuan..." Wu Chengtian quailed. Two hundred thousand had already enraged his grandfather this much; if he said he had spent fifteen million, the old man would surely go up in flames.

"Not a thousand yuan, then how much?" Wu Gonggao snorted. "You worthless boy, you haven't even the shame to blush. You ate a thousand yuan worth of food and can't pay the bill! You've shamed the Wu family!"

"It's fifteen million, Grandfather... I spent fifteen million..." Wu Chengtian gritted his teeth. One way or another, it had to be said; dragging it out was useless.

"What? What did you say?" For a moment Wu Gonggao could not react to Wu Chengtian's words. "How much did you say you spent?"

"Fifteen million..." Wu Chengtian repeated.

"..." On the other end of the line, Wu Gonggao went utterly silent.

"Grandfather? Grandfather?" Wu Chengtian called out, bewildered, but no answer came at all.

He had scarcely called twice when a burst of confused noise came over the line, and then Liu Tianyi's voice: "Dad, what's wrong? Why did you suddenly faint?"

Wu Chengtian on his end was startled. His grandfather had fainted? He shouted into the phone at once: "Grandfather? Grandfather!"

But beyond the clamor, there was nothing on the other end...

Wu Chengtian had no choice but to hang up, and looked anxiously at the waiter: "Can I owe it for now? I didn't bring money, and my grandfather has fainted. I have to get back and see him..."

"I'm sorry, sir, we don't run accounts here!" The waiter was still courteous.
