Chapter 1305 — A Peerless Arrow
The Herdsman of the Wasteland · Page 3 of 3
The cliff face was everywhere studded with arrows made of light, driven deep into the indestructible rock, save for one patch in the shape of a man, where there was no arrow at all.
And before the cliff stood Shen Mu, divine bow in hand, his front bristling with arrow-light; even his face was thick with feathered shafts. As for the egg of Taiyi, at some unknowable moment it had slipped round behind Shen Mu, and was not standing before him at all.
Thud.
Shen Mu fell on his back, the arrow-feathers all over him swaying faintly. These feathers were made of light, and soon the light dimmed and the shafts vanished one by one.
The egg of Taiyi rolled back with a rumble, and ventured cautiously, "Heavenly Venerable Mu, are you still alive? " "Not dead yet.
Only.
.
. I can't catch my breath.
. .
" Taiyi within the egg was reassured.
After a while, Shen Mu rose to his feet again.
Looking at the divine bow in his hand, his expression suddenly changed and he flung it away with a flick of his wrist.
This divine bow was far too monstrous.
But no sooner had he thrown it than he regretted it, and he picked the bow back up.
"Against an enemy at a distance, it can serve well enough.
But at close range, it is a dead end, plain and simple.
" He steadied himself and looked ahead. The roots of the great black tree that had entombed the withered-bone arm had been blasted open by the divine bow, revealing the upper half of a skeleton, missing one arm.
So the master of the divine bow had indeed grown within the roots of the great black tree.
Strangely, the inside of the great black tree's roots was fresh! The roots of this unimaginable tree were still alive!
Suddenly, the skeleton in the roots raised its head and stared fixedly at Shen Mu: "You seized my treasure and ruined my rebirth. Tonight, I come to take your life!
" That said, the skeleton too merged into the roots and vanished from sight.
