Chapter 3 — Are You Rich? The Girl No Longer Kicked Wei Zhao's Leg, But Leaned Against the Window Quietly Listening to Her MP3

"We are now arriving at Songshan Station. Passengers alighting, please get ready. This stop is fifteen minutes." The arrival notice crackled over the train's loudspeakers, and Wei Zhao began gathering his luggage to get off.

To his surprise, the girl beside him began packing up as well, clearly planning to get off at Songshan Station too.

When the girl stood up, Wei Zhao sized her up by eye. His guess had been right. She stood about one meter sixty-five.

Once off the train, Wei Zhao stared in wonder at the splendid buildings inside the station. Though he had been here once ten years before, Songshan ten years later had been utterly transformed.

"Wait a moment!" A sweet female voice called out behind Wei Zhao. He halted and turned around on instinct.

It was the same girl who had sat beside him on the train. She was waving and hurrying toward him at a run.

"Is something the matter?" Wei Zhao hardly flattered himself that the girl had fallen for him at first sight. He might be handsome enough, but his outfit was hopelessly countrified. Baggy khaki trousers and a white vest, the very image of a farmhand come to town for work.

"You aren't thinking of going to claim the prize, are you?" the girl said, a little angrily. She was still annoyed that Wei Zhao had turned a deaf ear to her warning on the train.

"Oh, you mean this?" Wei Zhao fished the pull tab from his pocket and tossed it carelessly by the roadside.

"Huh?" This time it was the girl's turn to be dumbfounded. She had never imagined Wei Zhao would do such a thing.

"You... you threw it away?" The girl pointed at Wei Zhao in astonishment, her mouth hanging open.

"Mm, threw it away." Wei Zhao nodded. "It was fake anyway. No use keeping it."

"You knew it was fake?" Hearing his words, the girl's mind went blank as she stared stupidly at Wei Zhao. What on earth was wrong with this man? He knew it was fake and still paid for it? Was he out of his mind? He hardly looked like some rich man with a perverse hobby.

"I knew. And even if I hadn't, you warned me on the train," Wei Zhao said.

"Then why did you still give them the money?" The girl grew anxious at once. What sort of person was this?

Wei Zhao smiled, slipped his backpack off his shoulder, pulled the zipper, and held it open before the girl.

The girl gave Wei Zhao a puzzled look, then lowered her head to peer into his backpack, and jumped in fright. Inside lay seven or eight thick stacks of banknotes!

"Are you rich? Even if you are rich, you can't just throw money around!" The girl had not grasped what Wei Zhao meant and thought he was showing off how wealthy he was.

"This is the money from just now," Wei Zhao said.

"The money from just now? What do you mean?" The girl did not follow him. "You mean you got the money back? Wasn't it only forty-nine thousand? This has to be seventy or eighty thousand!"

"The man in glasses had another thirty thousand on him. I took that as well." Wei Zhao shrugged. It was nothing, a mere flick of the wrist. For Wei Zhao, it could not have been simpler.

"Huh?" This time the girl was utterly stunned. There was nothing wrong with Wei Zhao. He was simply a cut above them. He had not only taken back his own money, but had lifted the man in glasses's money along with it!

"Why that expression? You aren't thinking of reporting me for theft, are you? You have quite the sense of justice." Wei Zhao looked at the girl's startled face and teased her with a smile.

"Of course not." The girl flushed red and shook her head.

"But thank you for what you did before. Girls like you are few and far between." Wei Zhao said sincerely. "Let me buy you a meal in a bit?"

"No..." The girl shook her head shyly. "My family is waiting for me at the exit."

Wei Zhao nodded when he heard that and did not press her. Chasing girls was a skilled trade, but it also depended on fate. Push too hard and you only spoil it. "Then I won't keep you."
