"Heh, but brother, if you really want to pursue someone, there's one more candidate." Kang Xiaobo lowered his voice mysteriously.
"Who?" Wei Zhao asked offhandedly. It wasn't that he cared about such things; he mainly wanted to use Kang Xiaobo's mouth to learn more about the school.
"Tang Yun, from Class Nine, Senior Three." Kang Xiaobo cleared his throat. "Our school's pauper campus beauty. She's very pretty, but like us, her family isn't well off. She wears her uniform every day and doesn't dress up, yet even so she can't hide her beauty."
"Tang Yun?" Wei Zhao paused. The name was pleasant enough; he just didn't know whether she was really as beautiful as Kang Xiaobo said.
"Of course, compared with those two little princesses, Gu Mengyao and Shen Yushu, Tang Yun doesn't stand out as much." Kang Xiaobo's tone grew noticeably hurried and excited when he spoke of Tang Yun. "But by comparison, she's closer to people like us."
At a school like No. 1 High, there were the sons of the wealthy and there were poor students too. Imperceptibly, they had split into two factions. The young gentlemen who had bought their way in gathered together, chasing beauties all day and playing at life. After graduation, with plenty of money and family connections, they could get into the university of their dreams or even go abroad to study.
But the poor students studied ceaselessly, working hard day after day, just to get into the university they dreamed of. Most of the poor students looked down on those idle rich kids, and those rich kids in turn looked down on the bookworms who did nothing but study.
Still, it was not an absolute rule. Among the rich kids there were those who studied hard, and among the poor students there were those who fought and brawled and ran with the wrong crowd. But birds of a feather flock together: the few henchmen around Zhong Yongliang were all rich kids and official's children whose families were much like his own.
So in Kang Xiaobo's eyes, pursuing Gu Mengyao or Shen Yushu was a dream beyond reach. The commoner campus beauty, Tang Yun, was the one people like them could actually reach out and touch.
Looking at Kang Xiaobo's somewhat hopeful smile, Wei Zhao sighed softly. School was not the innocent place he had imagined; it was full of interests and entanglements.
"You like her?" Wei Zhao asked with a smile.
"There's no shame in it. I dare say a good many boys at school have had * dreams about Tang Yun." Kang Xiaobo said with certainty. "Brother, once you see her, you'll know I'm not lying."
Go pursue the commoner campus beauty? The suggestion was tempting... but in the end Wei Zhao shook his head. His current identity was that of a study companion, a boy servant. To ditch the young lady and go chasing a girlfriend? Even if Gu Pengzhan said nothing, Old Man Wei would never let him off so easily. A man shouldn't be too much of a bastard; better to keep a low profile.
Besides, the situation was still unclear. He hadn't figured out what Gu Pengzhan meant by all this. Surely he didn't intend for Wei Zhao to use his job as cover to steal the young lady? Hmm... now that he thought about it, that was quite possible... He and the young lady were neither kin nor acquaintance, and this was the only way he could give her love... So if he went off courting some commoner campus beauty and Gu Pengzhan found out, what if he got fired?
And that was the pay and perks of a big shot in respectable society — thirty thousand yuan a month.
