"Ah, you're right!" Kang Xiaobo nodded in deep agreement: "If it were Kang Zhaoming and the others, even a calligraphy scroll they wrote themselves would have my second grandfather treating it like treasure and smiling for ages — after all, they're his own grandchildren. But me..."
"All right, Xiaobo. Since you call me boss, I'll take care of this for you! I'll prepare a special, generous gift for him — though whether he believes it's a good thing is up to him." Wei Zhao hesitated a moment, then said.
"Oh? Boss, you've got something good?" Kang Xiaobo was overjoyed at his words: "Boss, do you have a gift that can make us hold our heads high?"
"I do. That's exactly what I'm preparing for you — but I'm afraid they won't believe it's anything good." Wei Zhao said.
"If they don't believe it, so be it. It doesn't matter — as long as the sentiment is there!" Kang Xiaobo nodded: "Boss, no matter what anyone says, I trust you!"
After hanging up, a faint smile crossed Wei Zhao's lips. Divine Doctor Kang, was it... once his own Doctor Guan brand grew big, the man might well become an enemy. To keep him from entertaining any unrealistic ideas, he might as well put him in his place at this birthday banquet!
After the last time he had performed acupuncture on Liu Zhenhu, Wei Zhao had had an idea: to make a Marrow-Cleansing, Bone-Tempering Pill. Not the real thing, of course — the genuine pill required vast quantities of rare and precious Chinese herbs, and not only was the cost terrifyingly high, but the yield of those herbs meant such a pill could never be mass-produced.
It was a pill Old Man Wei had given him as a child to temper his constitution — one that could expel impurities from the body and thereby cleanse the marrow and temper the bones.
But such a treasure Wei Zhao would naturally never give away. What he meant to make was merely a substitute: it could expel only some of the impurities the body's metabolism had failed to clear, along with toxins accumulated within, and could not truly remake a constitution.
Even so, it could extend a person's life by several years, even ten — provided, of course, that the body had no major ailments. It was no elixir, only something akin to a detox medicine; even taken, it could not cure disease.
Wei Zhao's earlier acupuncture on Liu Zhenhu had achieved a similar effect, and that could be replaced with a Chinese patent medicine. This time, for Kang Xiaobo's second grandfather's birthday banquet, what he planned to present was exactly one such Marrow-Cleansing, Bone-Tempering Pill — though Wei Zhao had renamed it the "Life-Extending Detox Pill."
The name was rather more accurate.
