Chapter 1595 — The Fall of a Supreme

The Herdsman of the Wasteland Page 1 of 2

In Jingping, a young girl walked with light, springing steps through the ice and snow of Jingping's northern frontier, humming a little tune. Her skin was whiter than snow, and she was wrapped in a white sable fur; the northern frontier was cold, a world of ice and snow, yet none of it was as white and tender as her skin. She came to Shuofang City.

Shuofang was a city of bitter cold; at first Jingping's territory had not reached so far, and only later, in the course of opening new lands, had Shuofang been founded in that frozen waste.

Here ice and snow never melted the year round; even those possessed of divine powers were unwilling to linger long. As far as the eye could see, beyond white snow and icebergs there were only the huge strange beasts of Shuofang roaming the ice plains, and traces of the past were seldom seen.

As an important divine city of the northern frontier, Shuofang was protected by a deity, and so it was not exactly desolate. From afar one could see Jingping's deity standing amid the ice and snow, like a stone statue, yet radiating a blazing heat that sheltered the region and kept Shuofang's weather from being quite so harsh. The girl strode quickly into Shuofang and found the city bustling; because of the deity's protection, a great many people had gathered here, and trade flourished.

Whether human or of other races, all wore thick cloaks and garments of fur, looking rather bulky, yet somehow all the more bold and spirited for it.

The people of Shuofang loved strong liquor, the stronger the better. The girl tasted some too, and felt a line of fire run down her throat; she could not help sticking out her tongue and running out of the tavern, from which a burst of laughter followed her. The girl was full of curiosity, wandering to and fro through Shuofang and taking in its peculiar sights.

Suddenly she saw a huge slide carved from ice, and with a cheer she ran over, slid down it, and let out a clear, ringing laugh. She was sweet-faced, fair and charming, and lively besides, drawing the gaze of many a youth. After playing a while, the girl took out a roll of golden paper, opened it with a swish, looked at it, then rolled it shut again, and waved excitedly at a youth: "Wei Shijie! Are you Wei Shijie?

" The youth was stalwart in build yet fine-featured; hearing this he smiled. "Do you know me, miss? " "I don't.

The Book of Life and Death does. " The girl's brows and eyes curved as she smiled. "Wei Shijie, borrowed body of the Great Emperor of the Juyu clan, lurking here in Shuofang.

Your affair has come to light.

I have come by the Emperor's command to put you to death. Wait a moment, let me find the Emperor's writ. " She rummaged about and at last found the imperial edict of Emperor Yanxiu, Ling Yuxiu; she unrolled it with a swish and said, beaming, "Found it!

Everyone, please step aside, so no innocent is hurt!

" The youths around scattered with a clatter, fleeing far away.

Wei Shijie glanced about him, gathered his cloak, and sneered. "Emperor Yanxiu sent you? I doubt it.

Would Emperor Yanxiu dare lay a hand on me? Where is Mu Tianzun?

Tell him to come out!

" The girl put away the edict and smiled. "Uncle Shen knows nothing of this; it was the Emperor who sent me. Uncle Shen is very busy—how would he have time to concern himself with your affairs?

The Emperor got the news from Daluo Heaven. " Her accent carried the charm of the Western Lands, soft and sweet, making one wish she would keep talking forever. "My name is Xiong Qi'er.

Great Emperor, I ask for your instruction.

" The girl bowed, revealing the sword case on her back.

Wei Shijie gave a cold snort, then suddenly erupted, and with his first move displayed a terrifying, domineering divine might!

Though he was the Great Emperor's borrowed body, his cultivation and strength were by no means weak; at this strike, more than thirty Heavenly Palaces appeared behind his head, jeweled halls arrayed in splendor! In Jingping he had kept a low profile, and so his name was not well known.

Those who made a show of themselves, such as the reincarnated body of Xiao Tianzun, had long since been shot dead by Shen Mu; ever since, the reincarnated bodies of the Ten Heavenly Venerables in Jingping had all been exceedingly careful.

One might study Jingping's reforms, but one must never touch Shen Mu's reverse scale. To try to enter the center of power in Jingping and usurp the nest would surely bring Shen Mu's eradication at any cost!

The Great Emperor understood this too, but he was more cautious; he merely studied Jingping's Dao arts and divine powers and never showed his hand.

Even in a remote place like Shuofang, he had little fame. Yet now his strength was revealed; at the moment those vast Heavenly Palaces formed a Heavenly Court, even the deity guarding Shuofang could not help but be shaken, feeling boundless pressure!

Though his cultivation realm was only the Yaochi realm, his battle power had reached Yujing! The Great Emperor Wei Shijie's eyes showed killing intent; he stepped forward and appeared before Xiong Qi'er! He must fight quickly and decide quickly, slaying this sweet-voiced girl from the Western Lands before more Jingping experts arrived!

At the very moment he came before Xiong Qi'er, the sword case on her back opened, and in an instant the sword domain surged like a tide! Behind Xiong Qi'er, too, Heavenly Palaces formed a Heavenly Court, her Dao realm cultivation likewise exceedingly high!

The women of the Western Lands' True Heavenly Palace were ever famed for their closeness to nature and to the Great Dao!

Her cultivation realm surpassed that of the Great Emperor Wei Shijie, and her realm was stranger and more complete: she possessed the Four Heavenly Gates realm, the complete Yaochi realm, and the Tianhai realm!

Her mana was above Wei Shijie's as well! The two figures crossed, sword domain clashing with supreme divine-sense domain, then parted, each sliding dozens of paces forward!

Wei Shijie turned and said coldly, "Little girl, have you trained at Jingping's Wendao Academy? " Xiong Qi'er turned around, blood seeping from the corner of her mouth; she took out a silk handkerchief and wiped the blood away, nodding.

"I have been there.

The Sword God Su instructed me for half a year; I also followed the Libationer of Wendao Academy for a time, and studied under Jiang Jingping, the Imperial Teacher, for a while.

Not long ago I went to the Ancestral Court and followed Xu Shenghua and Lan Yutian for a time. " "No wonder.

.

. " Wei Shijie's flesh split open; sword marks emerged one after another across the surface of his body, shocking to behold.

"After Mu Tianzun slew the reincarnated body of Xiao Tianzun, I grew too cautious.

I dared not go to Wendao Academy, nor touch Jingping's most advanced and newest divine powers and Dao arts, so that in cultivation realm I was surpassed by a junior. " The vitality of his flesh grew fainter and fainter, and he muttered softly, "Heh heh, if only I had died in Daluo Heaven, how good that would have been—at the very least it would have made my peerless renown. After all, I died a heroic death under the siege of five Heavenly Venerables. And now, to die at the hands of an unknown little girl! How can I accept it.

.

.

I will not accept it—" His divine sense erupted, bursting out of this un-upgraded body and rushing straight for a youth in the distance, attempting to borrow life once more! In the very instant his divine sense burst from his body, Xiong Qi'er's sword domain erupted, enveloping all his divine sense! Flustered, Xiong Qi'er calculated at flying speed and soon reached her result; sword lights flew from the sword case, falling one after another to plant themselves in the sword domain, forming nothing less than a Taiji diagram.
