Chapter 124 — Coming to the Door
"Liangzi, what are you thinking about?" Zhong Yongliang was sulking when someone slapped him on the shoulder. He turned around and found it was Zou Ruoming.
"Oh, Brother Ming, it is nothing..." How could Zhong Yongliang ever tell anyone about his own humiliation?
"Oh..." Zou Ruoming was in fact too lazy to ask about Zhong Yongliang's rotten affairs. He had come to him for something else. "Liangzi, let me ask you something. That Wei Zhao in your class, what exactly is his background?"
Zou Ruoming hated Wei Zhao to the bone, and compared with Zhong Yongliang, his hatred was in no way less, if anything it was worse. On Friday he had been on the verge of success in picking up girls, forcing Tang Yun to make a choice, only to have the whole thing ruined by that bastard Wei Zhao. It left Zou Ruoming furious.
Still, he had not dared to act rashly. After taking a slap from Wei Zhao, he had not dared to say a word. What had happened earlier with Brother Black Panther had left Zou Ruoming quite stunned.
He wanted to see how Zhong Yongliang, with his family background, would handle the matter. So he had not gone directly to make trouble for Wei Zhao. His own family was also modestly rich, but their business was nowhere near as big as Zhong Fabai's. It was only that his elder brother Zou Ruoguang was a street boss in the North District with some ruthless men under him.
To his disappointment, after waiting for several days, the Zhong family had made no move at all. After Brother Black Panther went in, there was no word of him being fished out, and he would probably be sentenced. That left Zou Ruoming puzzled. Just what kind of background did this Wei Zhao have?
"Wei Zhao? Just a migrant worker!" Zhong Yongliang said with disdain. He never once considered that his own father had started out as a migrant worker himself, so in saying that he was despising his own old man as well.
"A migrant worker?" Zou Ruoming thought his ears must be failing him. How could he be a migrant worker? A migrant worker coming here to attend high school? What kind of international joke was that?
"He transferred in late. They say his old home is deep in the mountains. On his first day he showed up in rags and tatters, no different from a migrant worker." Zhong Yongliang's eyes lit up as he explained. Then he suddenly came to himself. Why was Zou Ruoming asking him about Wei Zhao for no reason? Could he be planning to move against Wei Zhao? He had never heard of any grudge between Zou Ruoming and Wei Zhao.
"Is that so... Then how come after suffering such a big loss a few days ago, you never got your own back?" Zou Ruoming did not quite believe Zhong Yongliang. After all, if Wei Zhao were really just a migrant worker as Zhong Yongliang claimed, how could he have swallowed such a loss without reacting?
"Do not even mention it..." Zhong Yongliang shook his head with a bitter smile. "I called out Brother Black Panther on my own and got a good scolding from my old man for it. You know my old man does not approve of me stirring up trouble at school. And I am no match for that kid Wei Zhao myself. He trained up his strength in the countryside and he is incredibly strong. There is nothing I can do to him!" Zhong Yongliang could also tell that there was definitely something going on between Zou Ruoming and Wei Zhao, though he did not know the details. That did not stop him from embellishing the story. If Zou Ruoming was willing to step in and teach Wei Zhao a lesson, he certainly would not object.
"So that is how it is... In other words, this kid Wei Zhao actually has no connections at all?" What Zou Ruoming feared most was that Wei Zhao came from a formidable family, so that once he messed with him he would not be able to bear the consequences.
"I certainly could not see any..." Zhong Yongliang pretended not to understand what Zou Ruoming meant. "Tell me, Brother Ming, why do you keep asking about this kid?"
"Oh, nothing, just curious, just curious!" Zou Ruoming said. "I am off now, the guys called me to play basketball!" Zhong Yongliang curled his lip. Curious? Curious my ass. Still, it looked as if Zou Ruoming was about to make his move, and that was good news indeed.
"Oh, all right." Wei Zhao knew Wang Zhifeng was only putting on a stern face in front of Kang Xiaobo. His relationship with himself was really rather improper and could not be exposed, so he patted Kang Xiaobo on the shoulder. "You go ahead to the break exercises. The director wants me for something."
"All right..." Although Kang Xiaobo was a little worried, with the director standing right there he could hardly ask more, so he had to walk on alone.
Once Kang Xiaobo had left, Wei Zhao asked, "What is it, Director Wang?"
"It is like this. Captain Yang of the Criminal Police Team from the police bureau is here. He has something to ask you..." Wang Zhifeng said with a bitter smile. "I think it is most likely about what happened last week. Be careful and do not talk recklessly. Whatever he asks you, just say you do not know. I will handle everything else for you on behalf of the school."
Wang Zhifeng was decent enough to take the responsibility on himself for Wei Zhao. It seemed he sincerely wanted to get on good terms with Wei Zhao. Part of it was because Wei Zhao had caught him in his little affair that day, but part of it was also because of Gu Pengzhan.
"Heh... all right." The moment Wei Zhao heard that Yang Huaijun had come, he knew it could not be about last week. Most likely the prescription he had given him had worked, and the fellow could not wait and had come knocking on his door.
Still, the timing was actually quite good. On an ordinary day, if the captain of the Criminal Police Team showed up at school out of nowhere to see a student like him, it would certainly make others suspicious. But with last week's incident as cover, no one would suspect anything.
The two arrived at the Academic Affairs Office. Wang Zhifeng pushed the door open first and said inside, "Captain Yang, I have brought Wei Zhao. But we agreed beforehand, you may ask about the situation, but if you want to take him away, I must notify the principal..."
"Just asking about the situation!" Yang Huaijun said with a smile. "Do not worry, Director Wang, I will not cause any trouble for your work. Look... should you step aside for a moment?"
"In that case, you two talk." Wang Zhifeng nodded, let Wei Zhao in, then left the Academic Affairs Office himself and closed the door firmly behind him.
"So? The prescription I gave you worked well enough, did it not?" Once Wang Zhifeng had gone out, Wei Zhao dropped casually onto the sofa to one side and asked.
"Eagle, you are amazing! That prescription works even better than those painkillers!" Yang Huaijun excitedly threw a punch at Wei Zhao, but Wei Zhao dodged it deftly without leaving a trace.
"Call me Wei Zhao." Wei Zhao corrected him.
"Fine, Wei Zhao it is if you say so!" Yang Huaijun did not mind at all, a name was only a code. "Wei Zhao, there is something I must apologize to you for. I showed the prescription you gave me to the doctor treating me... but he has promised he will not spread it around."
"Hehe, let him look, it may help more people." Wei Zhao smiled, not minding Yang Huaijun's actions in the slightest. "What did he say?"
